When the Germans Nazis occupied Ukraine (occupied by the Russian Soviet Communists after 1923) many Ukrainians had two very bad choices. The Soviets had deliberately starved millions of Ukrainians to death, destroyed churches, raped, mass murdered. This is called the Holodomor, also known as the Ukrainian Famine,was a man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians.
The hatred against the Soviets for what they had done caused many Ukrainians to see the anti Soviet Germans as a means of pushing out and punishing the Soviet Communists. They joined Ukrainian regiments in the German army to protect their families and repel the Soviets. Like wise when the Soviets retook Ukraine many Ukrainians joined the Soviet Army. The Ukrainians who fled West as the Soviets advanced as well as those who were forced labour under the Germans in the West were displaced and because of the Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe were never able to returned to a reoccupied Ukraine. It was one of those anti Soviet veterans who had served in a Ukrainian regiment in the German Army that was requested to attend tje Canadian Parliament. There are large numbers of Ukrainians in Manitoba.

Yes, but much of that was because of the Russian way of fighting. While the US and UK adopted a Steel Not Flesh approach, the Russians has a complete disregard for their soldiers lives. Russia was an enthusiastic ally of Germany until Germany invaded them. Russia kept all of its treaties with Japan and Germany while disregarding all of it's treaty agreements with us. Kim Philby leaked the Market Garden operation details to Russia and Russia leaked them to Germany to stop the US and UK getting into Germany first. Russia did nothing in WW2 that was not entirely self serving.

I'm the same age as Neil and I wasn't taught anything of World War II at school. In the 1960s and 70s it was too recent to be regarded as history. That doesn't mean I didn't know anything about it. On the contrary, World War II was everywhere when I was growing up, in the toys, in the films and on TV, in the books and comics, in the speeches of politicians and in the everyday conversation of the adults who had lived through it.

Not quite. Germany lost initially but over time won the peace. Germany did extremely well for herself and had of course a tremendous boost from the US at the beginning. The de-Nazification plan worked by and large and Germany became genuinely a peaceful and repentant country.
Now, the Nazis did lose governing power in Germany, HOWEVER, I believe they off-shored with tremendous wealth in non state form and also in key elements of hidden state functions in the US in particular as well as foreign intel operations of the US. Over time wealth laundered through Wall Street and the lines of straight money and Nazi money became blurred. Power continued to grow within the American deep state ( including intel and space program ) to the point where the Nazi originating faction was a permanence. If you're wondering still about things like JFK and 9/11, I do believe a lot of this kind of thing stems from their malign entanglement within the American deep state. So in conclusion I agree the Nazis kind of didn't lose, as they took another form, but they certainly lost Germany. Having said that, I'm sure there ties maintained nevertheless.

No, that happened long before Zelensky. The incorporation of the Azov Battalion into the Ukrainian armed forces happened after the Maidan coup, in 2014 (or maybe 2015). I think Poroshenko was president back then. Zelensky actually presented himself as quite pro-Russian and in favor of making peace with Russia. That’s why the Ukrainians elected him, to have peace with Russia. NATO didn’t like Zelensky at all when he was elected; they basically thought of him as an agent of Putin! However, that all changed dramatically, both because of pressure from inside Ukraine by the far-right who actually threatened to murder him if he made peace with the Russians, and from the outside, from the West.
