    One of my favorite rides of all time. I ride the Woodstock Flyers at Carowinds in Charlotte, NC. The gondolas are numbered and they have a contest to see who can snap the highest. Woodstock Flyers at Carowinds holds a very special place in my life as it's the exact ride that I learned to snap on while it was at Kings Island. • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty  8 років тому +19

      +Jared Andell Thanks. Snapping takes place when you can get the flyer itself in a "groove" of going up high and then stalling once you get to the bottom. When that happens the cables above you snap as the flyer is trying to catch up to speed with the rest of the ride. Once you lean how to do it, it is addictive for most.

    my family does this on the ride all at once (my two cousins, me, my dad, and uncle). Some people show off on the ride and as soon as we get on they look like amateurs. A lot of people just swing the sail back and forth, but if you do it aerodynamic it goes hella nuts. My one cousin got it so the front cord was so loose she was vertical, I got it bounce all the way down and keep bouncing all the way until it almost hits the man running it, and all of us snap so hard sometimes everyone turns to look at it. lmao.

    How do you snap the Larson scooters, like what's the technique to do it?

    • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty  6 років тому +4

      You have to think kind of backwards to do it. The tubs react quicker than the older version so at the moment you start to head up into an arc, start pointing the fin back to head down. It takes a few tries but it can be done. It should be noted that very few parks that have Larson models allow snapping as Larson themselves mention no snapping in their manuals, or at least they did when they first started making their models.

      It's kind of difficult to explain but essentially you move the rudder to start going up. As soon as you start to head up, switch it to head down. The more you do that the easier it will be to feel the "groove", knowing you are on the correct path. I visited Knoebels in July and recorded a POV while on the ride. It's in MASSIVLOG 30. I don't know if that will help you or not but it's more of a thing you have to feel. Now I sound like a surfer. Ha ha.

      Thanks man! The reason KI's has harder snaps is that the Larson tubs are heavier. The heaviest tubs I have ridden in were at Americana. • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty  4 роки тому

      It's a bit difficult to explain. You have to feel the "wave" or "groove." As you are starting to head up, turn the fin the other direction. When you are high, turn the fin the other direction and head back down immediately. If you keep doing this over and over you will get higher and higher and eventually snap on the down groove. I also like to throw my body weight around to get more sudden turns, which helps. You can see me doing this at 1:17 in this video.

    Great ride. I got an earfull for the first time ever last summer at Knoebels for riding too aggresive. After 30+ years of riding this ride, it was disappointing to get yelled out. • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty  7 років тому +5

      The same happened to me on the day this video was taken. You may notice that the ride operator slowed the ride down in the middle of the cycle. After my ride ended I was "coached" on not doing that. Later I went back and noticed people snapping. There was a different ride operator. I took a ride and once again was scolded for snapping. The third time I went back I noticed snapping and the operators allowed it fully. The mystery will continue...

      It's kind of difficult to explain. You have to move the rudder into the wind then back the other way until you gain momentum. Once you have that, it's just a matter of timing. It sounds weird to say this but once you have it, you will feel the groove and keep riding that way to bring up more momentum. I also throw my body the entire opposite direction when at the highest point to help me make a more sudden transition when diving down.
