  • Mirabai (1502-1556) was a 16th-century Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Krishna. She is a celebrated Bhakti saint, particularly in the North Indian Hindu tradition.
Mirabai was known for the incomparable beauty of the poems and bhajans she composed and sang in devotion to her beloved god, Krishna. Born in Rajasthan, she was married against her will to a prince of Chittor, near the fabled city of Udaipur. Her life was marred by persecution as she struggled to manifest her ardent desire to compose, sing and pursue spiritual studies. Though she was renowned for her talent, her family felt she was bringing dishonour by not behaving the way a courtly lady should - and they tried to poison and drown her.

Meerabai was of our world but the only one closest to krishna ever from here. I love her so much. I wish I could love God 1% the way she did and found her true self.

A sweet voice from the deepest place in the heart. A beautiful ,and precious insight into Divine love and devotion. Magical, in the truest sense. I would have loved to talk with her ,even for just a while. ❤ Wouldn’t it be amazing to feel even a tiny fraction of her passion? ❤ Chanting, fasting, charity, and austerity, will never bring you knowledge of the soul,I think Mira would agree with that sentiment.❤

Wisdom and knowledge are dead without love.
The sense of separation is a wound that cannot be bared.
And so, love arises from the agony of separation and somehow...
This anguish is the anguish of love feeling separate from itself.
With self enquiry of both heart and mind, the intensity of this love and the inner anguish it bathes in, is fixated upon.
    And the merging flows.
Love that feels the sting of being cut off from its beloved...
    which it's own self...
    is dissolved within itself.
    And tears flow.
For who can withstand this sweetness and pain, deeply felt love that overwhelms with the beauty of its reunion with itself?
    The individual wavers.
    And melts.
Down into the depths of the warmest waters, the ice is plunged beneath.
This wholeness is beyond words and cannot but be wept at.
    And yet...
Up comes the ice to the surface, to be washed upon the lonely shore...
and it feels the stab of separation once again.
Yet it is smaller than it was before, for it surrendered it's very self to the water.
And wisdom instructs this cold, forlorn love...
"Wait... trust... the tide will come in once again."
Who knows the schedule of this infinite tide?
    None know.
    Yet it's coming is certain.
    And so...
Longing begins to build within this heart of ice, once again.
For it is in love with itself.
And it cannot bare to feel apart.
Nothing else will do but to know wholeness.
Wisdom instructs devoted love and right action.
Who can surrender without them all?
    Wisdom alone will not do.
Love that is foolish and forgetful of itself, binds it's own self with ignorance.
Love that refuses to love, does not act like love.
And so the hidden path dissolves behind the feet that walk it.
And only when another step is taken, does the next step appear underneath the foot that takes it.
    Wisdom.
    Love.
    Right action.
The sensation of individuality includes the sensation of love and individual action.
Wisdom will get to know itself, and instruct towards self inquiry of all seeming individuality.
    (Sighs...)
There is no greater anguish than to love while feeling individual.
    A great gift.
It will not allow for slackness, for it has grown sick of anything else but it's whole self.
Beauty of the sweetest, most bitter sort.

      Joyfold ! Greetings !
I don't comment on anything, but you have touched me with your flowing water of enlightenment.
Touched me, in every core of my being by your words of truth.
May you continue to put pen to paper and write your mirrored truths
      Through the envelope of time.
This mystic and her story, touches each of us.
For anyone who writes knows that we face persecution daily...
I have been a closet writer for years,
Sleeping with a pen and paper as my pillow and being awakened in the wee hours of the morning by voices,
      Inside my head.
As I,, through sleep and wake, write down all that I have heard.
So after decades of pain, I have finally decided with the help of my daughter to publish my poems.
Which I might add, is no easy task.
To lay bare yourself to the world.
May everyone reading this, find your passion.
      Blessing flow...

I appreciate being able to hear the feminine perspective of spiritual understanding. Too often, it seems, we are only witness to the male perspective from paternalistic societies - and the suppression of women's abilities to participate in spiritual studies and teaching is egregious (as you note in your description of MIrabai's life). Perhaps some day you'll be able to share the writings of Lalleshwari. Grateful for your work and the generosity of your sharing.

I've listened to a good number of your videos, but it was this one, after the Kabir das, that made me stop everything to help support you. I must hear more Meera at some point. All your creations are inspiring but this one happened to ring a bell for me. May all the bells that still can ring be rung, as a Spiritual friend I never knew, once said in his song, "Anthem" (Leonard Cohen, Eliezer). A thousand thank yous. ❤
