@@foofootoo So from the creators of Arash from FGO (uses his Ultimate move, then dies) we got Wugtrio from pokemon (Very fast to use memento and then dies)

Wugtrio feels like a candidate for an equivalent to Ice Scales. The damage reduction in it would be meaningful (especially given that Wugtrio takes super-effective damage from special attacks) but as Wugtrio has effectively no defenses it would still suck. It would've fit a lot more considering it's based on a Garden Eel.
i reckon you can swap protect for endure on armouge, being on 1 hp doesnt matter too much if you're protected by psychic terrain from priority. and with the boosts, armorouge should always strike first and kill something. endure also means you can use your opponent to trigger the weakness triggers
I honestly dont understand what gamefreak was thinking with convergent pokemons stats being the same as their counterparts because it feels like they really struggled with it. like they had to create an entire new ability for toedscruel to stop it from using tentacruels speed and spore, and wugtrio is so awkward to use that its not worth it. Its a really nice idea but it feels like it was executed badly.
Toedscool and Toedscruel were added very late in development, Mycelium Might is the last ability in index order internally and their internal names refer to Magikarp and Gyarados rather than Tentacool and Tentcruel (implying they replaced a convergent Magikarp at some point).
I respectfully disagree with you on Toedscruel and the idea that they struggled to place it in a role that fit with Tentacruel's stats. I think it was a neat idea to give it a limitation, as there's an important trade-off there with that ability that you're ignoring. With Mycelium Might Toedscruel can effectively Spore Gholdengo, pokemon with Vital Spirit (popular on Annihilapes), pokemon with Overcoat (Enamorus-T), and a few others less relevant abilities. It can Taunt or use Hazards on pokemon with Magic Bounce (Espeon and Hatterene). It's never going to miss a Spore on a Snow Cloak or Sand Veil cheese team (Mycelium Might ignores the evasion boosts, technicailly it can Toxic evasion cheese reliably as well but I think any poison type is better at that). And finally while less Relevant/useful, it can Screech or Scary Face Contrary, Clear Body, and Corviknight. It's a really interesting Doubles pokemon. And last but not least it's speed tier and Sp Atk let it hit back offensively BEFORE many opposing threats (i.e. Banded Rapid Strikes-U). Toedscruel can tank a hit, Spore, force a switch, and then choose to attack before the switch-in moves, instead of spreading any other status utility. Cheers! I love this poke lol.
@rawkhawk414 I know this is an old comment, but whilst this is useful, I really wish they just gave it mold breaker. Mycelium Might is literally just mold breaker but worse. I do say this as someone who loves this pokémon though.
wugtrio was done so dirty, not only did it lose the ability that made dugtrio even usable, it also lost stab EQ + stone edge, a coverage combo that helped it make up for its lackluster attack stat. wugtrio is forced to use liquidation or triple dive as stab, both of which are downgrades from EQ, and gets very limited coverage, all it really gets is stomping tantrum and throat chop, neither of which help it beat water resists, and ice beam, which does help it hit grass and dragon types but is super weak off of its base 50 spatk. If I were to fix wugtrio, I would firstly make it a water/rock type and give it rock slide or stone edge, it desperately needs better attacking options and no type in the game resist both water and rock. For its ability, something like "whirlpool trap" as an arena trap that only water types are immune to instead of flying types would've been sick
When you had +2/+2 Armarouge and Wugtrio against their Glimmora and Garganacl, I can't see a good reason to leave Wugtrio in. If you had switched to Indeedee, you'd get Psychic Terrain up with Armarouge still around, which means hitting Garganacl with the Expanding Force and if not KOing it, at least making the endgame much easier. That also leaves you the ability to bring in Wugtrio in the end to power up your Palossand. That said, I am still impressed you found a use for Wugtrio.
I'm a fan of this use of Wugtrio and Pallosand! I tried a Sand Veil/Sand Attack Wug to pair with a Tyranitar with varying degrees of success and failure. But I'm still glad to see that Pallosand is still great if you can set up
So it either supports the gimmicks of Palossand and Coalossal or it’s the evasion Pokémon, like Froslass on Candice’s team. My god, those are horrible roles.
I like how Wugtrio isn’t useless simply because there is just two abilities that relies on a fast and weak Water user that needs to die after it activates the ability, and Palossand is still gimmicky as hell, and Coalossal at least has Terastalization but is not that popular.
i was thinking about using a boosting coalossal strategy but unaware dondozos and skeledirges made me think otherwise, i just use a bulky giga drain tera grass volcarona now lol
Seriously, why the hell did they give Wugtrio abilities that only take advantage of getting hit, and boost/lower opponents speed, on a Pokémon who’s only good stat is speed. Or is sand veil, which is rng based.
I get that Arena Trap is a sand based ability and doesn't make too much sense for a rock-dwelling eel thing, but it's such a good ability and Wugtrio desperately needs something as strong
I am always here for utilizing lesser appreciated mons! However, I feel like they really set Wugtrio up for failure. As cool as it’s signature move is for tech, we’re dealing with a meta where Unaware Dondozo is literally everywhere. And then a lot of the meta is centered around preventing/stopping set up Dondozo. Meaning that any set up is likely to stopped. I wonder if Wugtrio will gain more usage either A. In a future meta as more Dondozo checks/counters become prominent (that don’t also check/counter Wugtrio) or B. In a future generation (I mean, hey, it took Murkrow 7 generations to become relevant lol) But props to you for finding a great way to implement it! This was awesome to watch! You did what you could with what you had to work with lol ❤️
Yeah it's a rough one. Dugtrio has Arena Trap and STAB Earthquake which is reliable and good base power. For Wugtrio to be good, Triple Dive needs to be move powerful and it needs other powerful coverage moves too
Yeesh, my favorite Gen 9 Pokemon is Spidops and even I didn't think this pile of eels was salvageable. I mean it still isn't, but it used Moves and survived sometimes so that's impressive. The things having no niche does to a fish
Man, Spidops had such cool potential. I wish they'd start giving more bug Pokemon Scyther or Heracross level stats. Just give Spidops more HP and defenses with like 50 or 100 more BST and it'd have a cool niche. Lokix is also so cool and got similar treatment, but at least not quite as bad. This gen had such cool bugs but really needed to make them that bit stronger
Imo Wugtrio should have been a special attacker with 110 Sp.Atk. Tbh I feel like Dugtrio should have been gotten a stat upgrade to hit 110 Atk when Sun and Moon came out but whatever. But since Wugtrio stayed a physical attacker then I would have given it technician so that triple dive at least does some good damage, hitting 135 base attack. Also, just give it more coverage like power Whip, Gunk Shot and most of all, since I’m really surprised it didn’t get this, triple axel.
Thank you!!!! I literally already made a team around this strat. I used protect Instead of amnesia as well as sandstorm + Tera rock to absolutely wall both physical and special attacks. I will now adapt and I will to fight against the paradox forms. I now need to find a new member to replace t-tar. Maybe I’ll use a weak armor mon as well. I really don’t need to use trick room to succeed.
Ooh sandstorm tera rock is an interesting idea for the special defense. I agree that trick room is not necessary - the point is for Palossand to tank lots of hits so it doesn't matter if you're going first or last
But now Greninja is in the game, so it can power up Palossand with priority, is still fast, has actual good abilities, and can actually threaten with its high attacking stats. I mean, you are screwed if your opponent has indeedee, water shurikan can potential hit only twice (unless you have loaded dice), and it can currently be used in vgc. But it’s still better most of the time.
Dang, pretty neat Strat. Going have to ry this out sometime.. I found success with wugtrio using mud shot to lower speed and activate policy on revaroom which uses Spin Out/Gyro Ball.. also super fun screwing with people's accuracy lol

I know it's easier to do now but I have to grind a lot to get frequent teams and it's an area that I'm happy to sacrifice for these fun gimmick strats. You know if I went to a tournament everything would be maxed out
@@foofootoo For sure, something I do to passively increase the number of items I get is use a Pick Up Team that are at level 91 or above to get just about every rare item to sell while getting money. Especially considering where you can do this while searching for shinies or the vast number of items laying about. The one thing I do like about how they lowered the PP of HP restoring moves is to limit stall tactics and make moves like Morning Sun, Moonlight, or Synthesis more valuable since in a sun team their HP restores better. With the exception of Wish, though that one is a two turn move. Curious. What would a Lucario skill swapped with Mega Launcher look like?
Spending hours trying to take nice pics in the game just so if I stumble upon Foo or Weedle in the ladder they won't publicly drag me for my trainer card
He can be good for speed. Because he can have gooey to lower speed every hit and with a 120 speed stat, it will probably become the fastest Pokémon on the field. But he would probably die before that happened. (You could max his hp ev’s and iv’s with max defense. (If you can get it) then it will be a tank probably to lower all the speed stats. So if you switch in and out when you think that someone won’t attack to wugtrio’s side it’s your opportunity to boost it’s defense up. You can lower all the speed.) Of course I looked through the learnset and I didn’t see a defense boosting move. But I heard you say something about raising wugtrio’s defense stat. So maybe a different Pokémon’s move to raise his defense. But if you said something about raising palosand’s defense stat then the whole strat falls apart. And of course there will be a strategy that counters this so just check your info before using a random strat like this. (I’m not talking about your strat I’m talking about mine is just from information I got from some websites and playing through the whole game twice.)
I need to speak to Pokémon’s creators. Like… what was the inspiration for specific stats and abilities 😂 I highly doubt they look at smogon and VGC for inspiration for what the game “needs”
I honestly prefer the design on Wiglett a little more. Either way, rather underwhelming Pokemon. It's good to see people are still making it work, somewhat.
8:33 I'm curious as to why not Protect with the Indeedee? Waste an Extreme Speed from the Dragonite while getting some damage in with Palossand. Perhaps even try a double Protect so you'd be able to knock out the Dragonite the following turn.
Alas though this is good information I shall continue my quest to find a way to use wugtrio without just powering up other mons and peaceing out lol but great video his stats don't make team building easy
In national dex ag in pokemon showdown I use eevee extreme evoboost Baton pass into +2 in each stat wugtrio blizzard for dragon types it's a pretty good strat.
But why absorb bulb and not weakness policy? The defensive Terra I assume will come out less that a normal turn one set up that could use WP. Either way love it! Let's Gooooo! Slayyyyy!
This, this could actually work for it. Sticky web, x-scissor, sucker punch, maybe give it fell stinger & keep a few ground moves for coverage. Bugtrio could be neat
I'm using weakness policy on Armarouge and can't have it on 2 Pokémon. Also, Absorb Bulb on Palossand means I can terastallize to a steel type and still get the absorb bulb boost - weakness policy wouldn't activate because water is no longer super effective
I’m so disappointed that Wugtrio isn’t good competitively. I used one on my team for going through the main game and it actually was really helpful. I love the concept of the convergent Pokémon, but I really hate how weak they are. They could have been so much better.
Yeah then the super common Murkrow just uses Haze and makes this entire strategy obsolete. Mudsdale would've been better regardless because it can use Body Press to make more use out of +3 than Palossand can out of +6.
The plan is that +2 armor cannon Armarouge one hit KOs even Eviolite Murkrow so it goes down on the first turn as it sets up tailwind and does not get a chance to haze. Mudsdale has no recovery, so it does more damage with body press but faints much more frequently, whereas Palossand can win on its own against an entire team once it has defense boosts
its funny, because even here with this specific usecase im pretty sure greninja is just straight up better. Water shuriken hits 3-5 times with priority
Fun team! Is there any particular reason you didn’t swap Wugtrio out in the second battle to bring in Psychic Terrain to make Armarouge’s Expanding Force dual target? Would have destroyed Garg and conserved Wugtrio for Palo
That's a neat idea, but I think water absorb kinda absorbs the whole move just once - only abilities that actually get hit by the move will have it activate multiple times
Kind of sucks that it's bad I just caught a shiny wiglet in my first playthrough of Pokemon Violet yes I know I'm very late to the party but I wanted to use it for s*its and giggles too bad the thing literally seems like the Pokemon itself is s*its and giggles

Most important part of the game tbh
Greninja water shuriken is objectively better for this because you have a greninja and not a Wugtrio.
Greninja is not legal in VGC yet though
It's funny how the dragonite used extremespeed at the end like... He doesn't know palossand's type?
I've got the bases for an idea for when transfer Pokemon become legal. It's a Trick Room team with Greninja, Pallosand, and Arboliva.
I don’t understand why they keep releasing the same terrible Pokémon. Please give Dugtrio an evolution and name it Daggang
That would be amazing lol
It's just 3 dugtrio in a group
new dugtrio named DogGang which is just 4 digletts with puppy ears
5 duggies
Dugduo, 2 digletts
Dugquartet, 4 digletts
Dugswarm, 5 digletts
Dugteam, 6 digletts
Dughydra, 7 digletts
“It dies to everything!”, I feel ya Wugtrio
Clear Amulet could work
Oh my first though was triple dive steam engine coalossal
I need to speak to Pokémon’s creators. Like… what was the inspiration for specific stats and abilities 😂 I highly doubt they look at smogon and VGC for inspiration for what the game “needs”
It's a shame if they don't since VGC is their own format!
I saw this in one match whilst using Steam Engine Coalossal
It's funny seeing dragonite literally flying and still being hit by ground type moves
I still find it weird when Tyranitar terastallizes then gets hit by sand!
I honestly prefer the design on Wiglett a little more. Either way, rather underwhelming Pokemon. It's good to see people are still making it work, somewhat.
Yeah I agree
8:33 I'm curious as to why not Protect with the Indeedee? Waste an Extreme Speed from the Dragonite while getting some damage in with Palossand. Perhaps even try a double Protect so you'd be able to knock out the Dragonite the following turn.
Wugtrio is a bad Pokémon
Wugtrio be like 0:23
Imgaine if it had endeavor and extreme speed
Alas though this is good information I shall continue my quest to find a way to use wugtrio without just powering up other mons and peaceing out lol but great video his stats don't make team building easy
Yeah it's a challenge
In national dex ag in pokemon showdown I use eevee extreme evoboost Baton pass into +2 in each stat wugtrio blizzard for dragon types it's a pretty good strat.
Pokemon knows what they are doing....these pokemon can be found near each other.....lots of pokemon with synergy seem to be in the same area XD
That's a cool observation!
But why absorb bulb and not weakness policy? The defensive Terra I assume will come out less that a normal turn one set up that could use WP. Either way love it! Let's Gooooo! Slayyyyy!
He already has weakness policy on Armarouge
Turn one tera is not uncommon and as Pumpkin said I can save the weakness policy for Armarouge 😁
Ahh that makes perfect sense. I'm so used to FF armorouge that I alway proc the weak armor/policy for them lol.
I originally tried water compaction with aqua jet water tauros but this is definitely better
Just wait till gen 10 where they finally fix their mistakes and make Bugtrio. Exactly the same as wugtrio but now it’s bug type for extra viability
This, this could actually work for it. Sticky web, x-scissor, sucker punch, maybe give it fell stinger & keep a few ground moves for coverage. Bugtrio could be neat
@@gregorysroka727 holy shoot my joke turned out to not be a joke?
Wugtrio was done dirty by its ability. It should've gotten Swift Swim.
Siltadel that's perfect xd
😁
Hey, may I ask why didn't you use Weakness Policy on Palossand?? (I'm sorry if i missed it in the video)
I'm using weakness policy on Armarouge and can't have it on 2 Pokémon. Also, Absorb Bulb on Palossand means I can terastallize to a steel type and still get the absorb bulb boost - weakness policy wouldn't activate because water is no longer super effective
@@foofootoo Ohh, I didn't realize Armarouge had WP.
No way that dragonite used extreme speed on a ghost type on the second match
I’m so disappointed that Wugtrio isn’t good competitively. I used one on my team for going through the main game and it actually was really helpful. I love the concept of the convergent Pokémon, but I really hate how weak they are. They could have been so much better.
Wait, it’s walking animation is just the rock sliding around? Rather than burrowing and re-emerging?
What if "Flamigo" ?
Too bad Palossand doesn't get Stored Power
Anihilape is another excelent parthner
Oh true!
Your Amoongus doesn't have Pollen Puff per the break down, what did you swap?
Oops! lol I changed out protect
Wug!
I don't need to tell you why out of context, the thumbnail is bad.
Oh nooo!!
Wait, at the end of the first battle, wouldn't a 1v1 against the truant medicham be better?
Yeah then the super common Murkrow just uses Haze and makes this entire strategy obsolete. Mudsdale would've been better regardless because it can use Body Press to make more use out of +3 than Palossand can out of +6.
The plan is that +2 armor cannon Armarouge one hit KOs even Eviolite Murkrow so it goes down on the first turn as it sets up tailwind and does not get a chance to haze. Mudsdale has no recovery, so it does more damage with body press but faints much more frequently, whereas Palossand can win on its own against an entire team once it has defense boosts
Cant palossand just run policy?
I like sand wug
and then the opponent is using espathra and copies all your boosts xD
its funny, because even here with this specific usecase im pretty sure greninja is just straight up better. Water shuriken hits 3-5 times with priority
Does pallosand not get scorching sand this generation? Would imagine it being better than earth power in drawn out fights
Almost all the Isle of Armor tutor moves are (as of yet) unavailable in SV. E.g. Armarouge is the only mon that gets Expanding Force for now.
Pallo doesn't get body press?
No 😔
Howd you get Memento on Wug?
Level up move
Wugtrio? Noah I call it thr trildo
Gamefreak needs to stop being a coward and give Palossand Body Press
Wouldn’t weakness policy be better
But the amoongus doesn’t have pollen puff?
If only you could do this with greninja
Hi foofootoo!
Hi kracc bacc!
Hey hey foo
Hey!
Fun team! Is there any particular reason you didn’t swap Wugtrio out in the second battle to bring in Psychic Terrain to make Armarouge’s Expanding Force dual target? Would have destroyed Garg and conserved Wugtrio for Palo
He got more HP then Shedinja.
Nobody says wugtrio is useless
Foo time
That sounds way too ominous
That's a fun use of triple dive. I'd like to use it for Water Absorb proc. Not sure who to pair it with for that
That's a neat idea, but I think water absorb kinda absorbs the whole move just once - only abilities that actually get hit by the move will have it activate multiple times
Would Storm Drain only activate once? If so, an offensive Gastrodon may be possible.
Kind of sucks that it's bad I just caught a shiny wiglet in my first playthrough of Pokemon Violet yes I know I'm very late to the party but I wanted to use it for s*its and giggles too bad the thing literally seems like the Pokemon itself is s*its and giggles
Does wugtrio learn soak?
No unfortunately not
Which game guys???
Pokémon scarlet and violet
Greninja can do the same thing tho. Why do the simple strat anyone could figure out?
These gimmicks are all it has.
Hey Foo will you battle me?
Wiglet is hot trash. Tried using it during the early game and even overleveled it still sucked
Hey, it's not Spidops. Literally anything not named "Spidops" has some type of way of being used that isn't a complete joke.
Woketrio
