  • Now, there are many ways to set up a couple of Ubiquiti Nanobeams to make a good stable Point to Point connection to link a couple of locations together. Many people start with the app, which to be honest I have not found so easy to use, so I prefer the good old way using a web browser. This is how I do it - hopefully it will help someone.
You can purchase all the parts you need over at www.thetechgee... and the items we have used are
    Ubiquiti Nanobeam 5AC Gen 2 - thetechgeeks.c...
You may also need some wall brackets - thetechgeeks.c...
You could also use Nanostations if you wanted to instead - thetechgeeks.c...
These don't come with PoE injectors so you will need to grab these - thetechgeeks.c...

Ok, great video. i think i understood. I have a house with a cable modem and router. So I'll have one of these devices there.
Then i have a barn 500ft (150m) away. I need the other one there. But then the barn has network devices, wireless and PoE cameras. How do i hook these to this 2nd nanobeam? Do i add a switch and/or access point off of the nanobeam in the barn? Thanks!

Good question. Yes in the barn you will come out of the Nanobeam and in to a switch and then to that switch you can connect all your other devices, or even a wireless access point if you want wireless in that location. Just think of the link between the two Nanobeams as a long ethernet cable. I hope this helps.

Hello, may i ask a question?
I have a gen 1 nanobeam. If i download the configuration of this one and i upload it on a nanobeam gen2, does it work?

Good question. I have never tried, but it may work. But to be fair there are not that many settings, so you may be best to just set it up a fresh.

I used you video to program 4 nano means. The exact ones you have in the video. They work great but I do have one question. The last one inline is working but differently from the others. I also am using a TP Link system that is working well for the Access point antennas. The last Nano Beam/TP link antenna is showing 30 mbps and 80 upload. Nothing else is the system is showing this much difference between the 2. The access point before it is showing 90 up and down. Any suggestions on getting the down load more equal to the upload? One thing I did think about after they were put up, was making them level with the level on the top that says( Polarity) Would this be part of the issue?
Thanks so much and appreciate the video.

Thanks for your comments. I am assuming you have these in two bridges, ie 2 and 2 and not in a point to multipoint. Generally if you are getting a speed on the upload that is faster then the download it can be caused by two things. Your router out to the internet or the testing software you are using. The best option is to try and draw a large large file across the link and see what speed that gives you.
Your point on making sure the devices are level and pointing to each other is also a good one, but the fact you are getting 80mb/s on one of the directions means the link is capable of that, so it is less likely to be this that is giving you the issue.
Not knowing exactly how everything is wired up through the network makes it a little difficult to fully test, but if these are a bridge and then that is connected to another bridge, it is possible it is being caused at that hop off point in the middle with the PoE injectors or the switch at that location.
I hope this helps a little.

Thanks a lot, very thorough. The only detail I think makes less sense is to call the SSID Pair-1-1, maybe more logical to call it Pair-1 only, as involves both devices? But just a detail...

Good question. In theory if you set it in Access Point mode then you could connect devices to it. It is very directional so is not really designed for this and I would suggest either the Ubiquiti AC-M or AC-M-Pro which can be found here - thetechgeeks.com/pages/search-results-page?q=uap-ac-m
