Ocean Sky

- At a star party in August 2009 I took my first long exposure photograph of the night sky. I was so thrilled with the results that I dedicated most moonless weekends since then to photographing two things I love the most in nature - the night sky and the Ocean.
Taking a series of images and combining them into a time lapse video sequence made it even more interesting. I have since experimented with all-night time lapses, panning motion, etc. But most importantly I've enjoyed the journey immensely.
This time lapse video is the result of almost 1.5 years of work, 31 hours of taking images during six nights on Southern Ocean Coast in Australia.
Ocean Sky was awarded the overall winner prize at STARMUS astrophotography competition:

this is unbelievable that god has created a beautiful universe..
we are not a drop in an ocean, we are an ocean in a drop...!
beautiful world
lots of love from India, Mumbai
it's great that technology has enabled us to show the true beauty of the universe to people who might never know it existed.. and this has got to be one of the greatest examples!
Este es mi time-lapse favorito. Verlo en pantalla completa con buena calidad y la luz apagada es una MARAVILLA.
I was only looking to see those beautiful skies and then I found out that the song is nice too... Complete!
I see a 'faint outline' whenever I go to my summer cottage, however when I took a trip to Egypt it was absolutely incredible, definitely
more than just an outline.
Nicely done. The movement of the clouds and water adds to the drama.
Wow beautiful 🤩🌌🔭
Amazing video, it's like seeing earth traveling across the galaxy.. the stars are so vivid, it's like they are only a few kilos from us.. great job
OMG am I looking at a galaxy I live in.... Breathtaking....
Such an awesome video, thanks for posting. It really makes you think how we are not alone with so many hundreds of thousands of stars, planets and galaxies in our space.
Beautiful.
And props to the new musical direction of redman, a far sight better than that Christina Aguilera song I last saw him in.
Wonderful video!
Ocean Sky is very fantastic!!!

unbelievably beautiful video!! the sky it's astonishing
Como siempre, hermoso y cautivante la inmensidad del Universo
Overwhelming and awesome - this takes astro time lapse to a new level...
It'll never look like this to the human eye, only the camera can see all that crazy detail. But you can see a faint outline if you're at the right place at the right time.
Just * WoW *..! This is really Amazing..! Very beautiful work..! I love it..!
A creation of your Beloved Creator Jesus! Gave himself for you at the cross to pay for all your sins!
Excellent work; beautiful milky way footage!
is this really happens at the sky?I just can't believe.I must see it with me eyes!OMG
BEAUTIFUL my dream is to see this
@nesquikADDICTED
yes, a DSLR with wide-angle lens (18mm kit lens will do for the beginning) and a tripod is all you need. Wide open aperture (f/2.8 or f/3.5) and 15-30 seconds at ISO 3200. If you want to make a time lapse then you need an intervalometer for your camera, which you can get for $30 on ebay. Then set it to click through the night with the minimal delay. Another item you would want is an external battery to get more than 300 shots out of it.
Extreme dedication and patience. Very well made. Thank you for this.
Wow this is so beautiful!
Прекрасная работа МАСТЕРА , ! ! !
This is absolutely beautiful! I love space!

It's crazy thinking the sky can look this beautiful all I see is a dull sark sky cause I live in a city
This is breathtaking
This video is very beautiful. I want to see in Japan this starry sky.
Helemaal geweldige video Terrastro, ook relaxe spacie muziekje erbij, schitterend!!
Just beautiful.
pause video, open new UA-cam tab, search "how the universe works ost" and play that and this video muted......ITS JUST AWESOME
Wonderful
beautiful piece of art!
I have NEVER seen the milky way with my own eyes. Ever. Not even a trace of it. It's night...I just took a look out my window and I see exactly zero stars in the night sky. Sometimes I can make out enough to see the Big Dipper, Orion, and the Little Dipper. But those nights are rare. Even at midnight the sky is just a dark blue, never darkening fully.
Astonishing. Inspiring. I endevour to learn to do this.
SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. You just got yourself a subscriber. Keep it up.
So mind blowing beautiful. Too much light from surrounding towns were I live :(
i really love this video .. thumbs up
人は自然を超えることはできないんだね。いくら科学の力で自然を再現しようとしたって敵うわけがない。だから人は自然に惹きつけられるんだね😊

So relaxing
2:17-2:18 upper left of the screen, Orion Constellation, its upside down though from where im at, which means that this was taken somewhere in the southern hemisphere
absolutely mesmerizing video. good job.
random, but what's the reason that you can only see such stars like this away from cities?
I like this. A lot.
BEAUTIFUL & LOVELY :-)

ohh very nice sky
Love it !
Where are some places either around the world or close to Florida where I can see beautiful dark skies like this! I want to see this soooo badly im in love with it!
Really great. Do allmost all the places show stars like that, or does it depend on the place of the earth that your on?
And one more thing, does a IR Filter helps to capture that?
impresionante ver mas alla de tu propia realidad
Awesome! Your videos inspire me! :) Keep up your good work! :D
I must see this place 1 time in my life :)
Great video, i am just starting with my curiosity in photography. Can you please give me some tips like the apperture, ISO, exposure etc.nto begin with? I've been wondering how to even see the outline of the milky way galaxy just like in this video. Great work!
This made me cry, hard. (tears of joy/ fascination) ^^'
a
Beautiful
thank you its amazing
Lovely stuff. Excellent Work, just amazing. Can I use this video in a free music video that I am working on? Thanks in advance.
Beautiful... one can only imagine what is really out there in this strange, supposed universe we live in... critical thinking at its best.
Is this all how the night sky appears to the naked eye with no light pollution, or is this the night sky seen through a camera that can capture more light than the human eye can see?
Hey, What kinda setting were you using for the shots? I love your work. looks amazing. especially u got the Sun setting with the galaxy in the background. I would like to do some time laps of the Galaxy. any tips as far as the settings goes? thanks
I knew it! It was Australia!!!
Thank you Alex
Wonderful video :)
Wonderful!
lovely vidéo
Tremendo!
De cuánta exposición son las fotos, para que se vea la vía láctea?
Voto POSITIVO!
Magnifique
Does it really look like this or is this a special camera?
Amazing video by the way!
Alex, This is thoroughly excellent work.I am impressed how can keep the exposure level so consistent across each frame. Thank you for posting...
btw have you seen the 1 Trillion FPS camera
i'm new to this, and would like to know what type of camera you have/ general settings you used. This is an amazing video and outright inspired me to do this.
EPIC!
WOW!! If I want to take pictures of the sky/stars like you did here, is 50mmF1.8 good or 30mmF2.8 do a better job? I should go for the lenses with the lowest possible F numbers right?
Hi this is an amazing video the clarity is fantastic when you shoot these frames does it link them as one file or are you using a program to play them back at so many fps.
Hey mate, do you have a list of the gear you use? I'd like to get into photography more and I'd love to be able to take shots half as stunning as this.
tnx I liked this a lot
@lmos26 Those two are in the northern hemisphere. australia is in the southern; completely different sky in both regions
Hello, i wanted to get an intervalometer for my Canon 200D. Can you recommend one ? I tried searching the net.. but couldn't find anything :(
Amazing
