  • Episode 7 || The Hidden Legacy || The Forgotten Taino and Taina Warriors of 1492-1540
In this episode, I concentrated on the different indigenous people who were directly involved in what became known as the Spanish Invasion of the West Indies. Each person in this series was real. They lived and breathed and died during this time period, and because of their actions, millions of people worldwide exist today. We all know about the violence and the atrocities that occurred during this time, but I personally had heard of only 5 of all those who are part of my series. The rest were buried beneath indifference and the hope that time would erase all trace of them.
I dug as deep as I could within my circumstances, and I am very proud of the facts I was able to gather, even though there are still thousands of documents in the Archives of the Indies in Spain that STILL has not been examined. A lot of people told me to not waste my time because there wasn’t a lot of information on them, that they had disappeared too quickly, that there was no documentation left behind about how they lived and who they were.
But I was able to gather hours upon hours of information and probably more depending on how I get through these episodes. So, for now:
Episode 7 || The Hidden Legacy || The Forgotten Taino and Taina Warriors of 1492 1540
We are 3 dominicanyork, second generation Dominicans who have decided to rediscover the real history of our beautiful island and of those who had a hand in the formation of our identity today. We are doing this with the basics, an iphone and our basement. We will try to be as accurate as possible, but we are not experts, so please excuse our mistakes.

Wherever they went, the same behavior and in many regards still prevalent amongst their descendants.

Its interesting because the ppl accompanying Colon were NOT all Spanish, they were from all over Europe. When I do my African series, I will also talk about the Africans who ALSO accompanied Colon… and many did the same things

I hope you mean human descendants. Throughout the world including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia, people have preyed upon the weak. There have always been power imbalances and abuses. The Ottoman Empire had a massive sexual slave trade and physical labor slave trade. The Arab Islamic slave trade was also fairly notorious. White men were galley slaves. Women were prostituted globally. African slaves were used often as eunuchs in Ottoman palaces. Sad world.

Its insane! But it also makes me think that the idea that s*x was “taboo” wasnt true. He wrote this account to his friend in Italy who then spread it all over Europe!

@PlatanoConSalamiHistory It was only taboo for women to be sexual. Pope's literally had babies out of wedlock. 😅 Also, white men (as a demographic) have always been the biggest gossips in the world. They created the CIA and FBI to literally spy, gossip, and war monger.🤦🏾‍♀️

It's only grape if you consider them human, which these POSs clearly didn't.

@@PlatanoConSalamiHistoryi think that their nudity was considered erotic. DISGUSTING.

@@joltjolt5060 I agree! Colon might not have been so shocked because he had already been to Africa and had seen other cultures where nudity was the norm. These other people who went along, including Cuneo were “gentlemen volunteers”….
