In this video, I go over the career of Sovereignty, currently 21/1 odds to win the 2025 Kentucky Derby and figure out if this horse has the potential to be the winner of the 2025 Kentucky Derby. This horse has a chance to earn its way into the Kentucky Derby after a several month layoff having not raced since October. I take a look at the horse's breeding, trainer, jockey, previous races, where the horse excels, what distance the horse prefers, the running style of the horse, previous competition the horse has faced, and an outlook on what I'd like to see before the big race come the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs.
Best channel by Far,a hundred times more informative than racing dudes etc, what info,Thank You
@@donnat2062 haha I appreciate that. When I do my videos I try to keep in mind “I’m explaining this to a friend I’m bringing to the track for the very first time”. For more experience horseplayers it may sound funny at times but I’m just really trying to cast a broad net in terms of audience, focusing on some people that aren’t as clued in to racing, but also a broad net in terms of what I’m looking at so I can further educate myself while showing everyone the depth of the game.
wow very detailed look ...thanks..many handicappers just pick a "wise guy" horse solely on 1 angle ..........good job
@@carmenrayles-q6b thanks for the feedback! Yeah I’m hoping to have a better feel for as many runners as possible come derby week. I can always come back to my “positives and negatives” for each horse as a quick recap too. Maybe I’ll post all those together around derby-time… hope the videos are serving you well!
Into mischief best breed going right now
@@josephedwards6919 yeah I had always seen him as a strong sire and never really dug into his career. Surprised the body of work was so limited but guess I shouldn’t be too shocked this day and age
I have to wonder after the long lay off if they're gradually working the horse back into shape.
I’m hoping so. Typically like to see the workouts consistently 7-10 days apart and not seeing that at this time. Horse looks great on the track but will need 1 win at least to be eligible for the derby. Possibly 2 if he doesn’t win the first… if he wins the first and waits for the derby, I wonder if he’ll be in peak conditioning for the test. If he runs twice to get in the derby, I hope he’s not over-exerted. Haven’t seen any entries for him but I’d hope he gets two starts before the derby. With his running style, I think he could handle the workload. Very curious about this guy.
@mondaymorninghandicapping my general thinking is I know how much I hurt working out after a long layoff. I can only imagine it would be similar for a horse.
@ indeed. The trainer is solid so if this horse gets back on the derby trail, I’ll take that as a good sign. Luckily he’s not a front runner and from my limited understanding, perhaps that takes less out of a horse… running comfortably until the last 3/8ths of a mile then putting in its big run rather than sprinting near top-speed for as long as it can. The fact that it’s back working is the first good sign, hope to see more.
