This is EASILY the scariest game in the FNAF series. Not just because of the Nightmare Animatronics' monstrously terrifying appearances, the colosally dark atmosphere, or the fact that you're playing a helpless child, but mainly because of the Jumpscare animations. This time, instead of the Animatronics lunging and then roaring at you, they pick you up and proceed to EAT YOU ALIVE. And the mere fact that this is all happening in a solitary house emphasizes how helpless you, the player, actually are.

FNAF 4, meanwhile, has you with only a measly flashlight, no cameras whatsoever, and no means to leave the room, making the moment of knowing when the Nightmare Animatronics are coming to eat the child come across as sheer dumb luck. And all in all, it's actually a much more disturbingly realistic scenario, since it represents the all-too-real scenario of child neglect and child abandonment that happens very often in real-life, and if given the interpretation, the Nightmare Animatronics could be very well be essentially child predators that operate at night, choosing random houses to do their disgustingly filthy business.
the fact that fnaf 4 is SOUND BASED is one of the many fear factors of this installment in particular. you need actual earbuds or headphones to literally listen to breathing, meaning you need your volume up, also meaning if a jumpscare occurs it's gonna scare the living daylights out of you. scott did phenomenally with this installment.
