theFLICKpick Spot on...your review was excellent! Stallone is exploiting a cash cow but is not doing it any justice. This movie was to crammed up! This leaves little character development. Also the one-liners?! Embarrassing at times! It seems that Stallone and Arnie believe that they are still funny...there not! The story was basic! Acting was wooden! So many characters in it I really could not keep up! It was a mess. Question...did you enter the "Pencil Pushers" competition? If so, did you win? ;)
What they could have done, and what they can still do, is have an expendables movie focusing on a small cast of 80's and 90's action stars. Like, have Stallone, Li, and three other actors make a bad ass movie focused on them then have another expendable movie focusing on a different cast if action stars to focus on them. Have a camino or two from other action stars but nothing too cliche. I want to like these movies but the story and the way they put them together makes it difficult. And yes, appeal to the actual fans by making it rated R....
The Expendables franchise: Films created to fluff an aging 80s and 90s action star's ego, clumsily disguised as homage to previous successful films and cloaked in faux appreciation of actors via excessive cameos and supporting roles. In simple terms: Keep Stallone's bills paid by watching famous action stars revolve around him for nearly 2 hours. May or may not be PG-13 depending on how bad he wants pre-teen money.
Great review John! I am not a big fan of the Expendables movies, so it doesn't bother me whether its good or not. My favourite Action film from the 80's is Commando, with Arnie. Great one liners and overacting! Love it !
Great review John :) I thought expendables was ok, expendables 2 was utter crap. However I watched no.3 and have to say i really enjoyed it. I'm 36 and grew up in the 80's with all the big action movies which i love. The pg13 rating doesn't bother me and i never even thought about it while watching the movie. I loved every minute of it except jet li who was kinda pointless and hard to understand. Favorite character was antonio banderas character he was awesome, really made me laugh. Never really rated him as an actor before either. Really respect you and love your vids mate, you'r hilarious and it's good that you're 100% honest with you're opinions :)
80's-Die Hard followed by Commando. Some of the best one liners ever. I actually like Cobra, it's like the definitive 80's action movie with every cliche in the book. 90's-Last Action Hero. Cruelly underrated IMO
Agree with everything you're saying here John, this was a terrible movie, the worst of the 3 so far. No character development and didn't make use of some great potential in the actors they have, I mean Arnie was hanging around doing nothing for most of his scenes, what a waste!, also terrible CGI explosions and gunfire, poor dialogue, wasn't interested in the story and didn't care about any of the characters. Total cash grab. Im not seeing any more of these!
Hey hey hey!!! We totally agree with what you say about the 80's and 90's, its our bread and butter, lets not try and cash in on this, its of its time and the jokes/quotes are iconic because they worked then, not now! We couldn't be more excited to see our 'old' action stars on screen for one last gun toting outing but these films just DO NOT live up to it #thereeldeal
I forgot about the blood after Ford came on screen. The third time I went into an Expendables movie so I knew three out of the 29393020293 people in the cast would get a shine out of it. So, it's fine, this movie is still funny to me. It's like the Batman 60's show of action movies.
I personally got everything i wanted to do about it, and did a review about it myself, pointing out whats good and whats bad. My buddies and I went to the early showing on thursday before it came out, and honestly, it was great, we had the theater to ourselves, got to laugh loud and talk and cheer. I personally believe that if Stallone had more to do with this movie, it'd been better. Let's face facts, the new team, not so fun, you don't even really feel like they are main characters. Also, Gibson, yes excellent villain, perfect for the movie, but he lacked one thing. Henchmen. Eric Roberts had Gary Daniels, Dolph Lundren, and Stone Cold as back up, and Van Damme had Scott Adkins, but for this movie, Gibson went solo, and that was kinda bummer because from older action movies just didn't have great heroes and villains, but good villain sidekicks. Personally, I loved this movie! Do I love it as much as the first two, no not really, but I believe that a 4th is possible but i think that Stallone will have to write it in order for it to happen and be decent and use a lot of his own cash. (Not like he doesn't have it.)
I couldnt agree more John, I really hate the parody element to these films- I have to add I havent seen this installment, my friends were going to see it tonight and I passed on it. Absolutely HATED the first 2. I liked the concept but it just shits all over the classic action films. Arnie saying "Yippee Kay Yay" in part 2 was the final nail in the coffin for me. Love your videos man!
I think the PG-13 rating really hurts the potential of a movie. With a rates R movie, there's more areas of creativity to work with. That's one of the reasons why those action movies of 80s and 90s were so good. Back then directors, producers and studios weren't afraid to take risks, and the rating allowed them to do that. Now everyone in Hollywood throws creativity and risks out the window in order to make a quick buck.
I think that if the "finding the new expendables part" was only about 8 minutes, antonio banderas wasnt in the movie, it had blood and gore, and there was none of that wink wink at the audience crap, this movie wouldve been a solid B. And also it would be nice if the action sequences were somewhere in the realm of possiblity. Oh and also at the end during that one big badass action scene there were no guys riding around on dirtbikes...
The Expendables franchise feels like it was made by people who only watched '80s action movies, and didn't actually make and star in them. People go to see these movies for Stallone and Schwarzenegger, not Ronda Rousey and Kellan Lutz. And the movies are so overstuffed with characters; the '80s were all about excess, but sometimes less is more.
I actualy didn't mind this one, I thought by the best parts by far were SPOILERS! when Mel is captured then escapes and captures the new expendables, that was the level of darkness and brutality i want out of the series
I didn't watch this movie and I don't ever intend to. Ever since I watched that short Bullshit fight scene between Stallone and Van Damme.. that was it for me.
This movie just took out the very purpose that was trying to be setup from the first movie. Big action stars in one screen and what do they do, replace them with unknown "young but dumb" people. PG-13? Who are you trying to please? I feel George Miller should direct the next Expendables movie. Mad Max:Fury Road was very well handled
Personally I don't mind the PG-13 rating because I've never been a big fan of the gore that usually appears in Rated R Action Films, I just don't like a lot of gore which is why I stay away from Mortal Kombat, but anyways yah I don't like that much gore so I feel a little bit better when it's PG-13 because I don't have to worry about that factor too much, HOWEVER I completely understand why all of you fans would hate them lowering the rating because it does mean that the movie is not actually aimed at the fans of the old films, but aimed at the current action demographic, infact I'm sure they did it so there'd be more people able to see the movie and inturn get more money, but teens sneak into/watch Rated R films all the time so it didn't actually increase the audience at all. So like with the Robocop remake, your expectations are lowered because some of your favorite things won't be in a PG-13 movie. Love the Die Hard franchise, Die Hard 5 is one of those films I enjoy making fun of, sorta like On Her Majesty's Secret Service because those two films felt like parodies of their franchises instead of legit films. xD
I didn't really hate this movie.. but I don't feel the need to watch it ever again. Mel Gibson was an awesome villain in this movie though. Probably would have been much better with an R rating.
I sorta thought the point of these films was parody. My wife and I have sat down twice to watch this installment and have just made it past the recruitment of the young folk. I think the problem is, we don't drink as much as we used to, so bad action films aren't as tolerable... As for my favorite 1980s action film, I think I have to go with 'Predator' ; the only film I know of with two governors in it, (not that that is what makes it good).
No, I really liked this movie. I'm just watching for fights. Not expecting good story, acting or script. I guess the new characters are to extend the franchise. I liked it, although it should have been rated R. More money for them, with 12 year olds. Not too bad, Gibson, Ford, Banderas were great. Snipes, Stathom, Rousey were good. Rest were ok. Needed more Crews & Jet Li. I'd give this a B+ for what it's worth. Old school action, without blood.
I have to say thank you! Cause I really didn't expected a lot of the Expendables III - though I had a blast... [talking of underpromising, overdelivering]. No - this movie is definitely not the best movie ever. But lets face it - all 80's movies are a bit silly... though we see it through some "romantic" glasses. Off course, they had to up the action [I think, it is overrated, to top the previous movies action scenes - the stunts just become more ridiculous and unbelievable - just saying]. Wesley Snipes is actually doing very well in the movie... I had low hopes, because he didn't look so good in the trailers. Mel Gibson is great. Harris Ford not that bad. And Arnie? Is Arnie... Antonio Banderas was a bit annoying - but this might just be the idea of his role. The only thing, which I miss, are dedication "fire-team roles". Yeah- they had their specials, but in battle, they were just foot soldiers altogether... not that great. And the story - as 80's movies a bit silly... I am fine with that. And do you know what- I don't mind not to see heads splashing and blood all over [it was ridiculous in Rambo 4]. You don't need to make a movie totally violent, to make a point... I am just really annoyed, that everyone talked down this movie... not about the video review here... but all the commenters. I guess most of them were not even in diapers, when the real 80's movies were screened...
I already know I'm on my own island here, but I really liked this one. The PG-13 didn't bother me that much, and the stunts and action sequences were still a lot of fun. Hell Stallone lands a chopper on a train in the first 5 mins, awesome!!! I really liked Wesley Snipes & Antonio Banderas cracked me up. Over the top sure, but I dug it. Mel Gibson was fantfriggentastic in this too. Loved him, and Harrison Ford was a major upgrade. For sure a lil bait and switch with the youngins, but overall I'd give it a B-. Just my 2 cents. :)
This movie wasn't as good as part II, but was better than the first. Rousey was my only real problem. I am also glad that they replaced Willis with Ford (not that I dislike Willis). I would give it a B (3.5 out of 5 stars)
I stopped watching The Expendables after the first one, these are NOT the great action films we know and love from the 80's, they are a slap in the face to fans.
I saw the first expendables being a die hard stallone fan and will never forget the disappointment I felt. Then the second was okay a little better but still kinda mediocre. All they really care is about getting a bunch of actors instead of working on the story. Have yet to see this and probably will not till blu ray.
Maybe I have to watch again. Thought it was ok. Hated the new team. Didn't make sense to add them. If they do another one, take out all the stupid gun fights and add more martial arts! Ah em The Raid movies anyone?
I saw the movie yesterday and i really hated the new team why the put those actors/fighters, and like you said a lot of guns and gunfire but too poor artial marts fights, if they make a 4, eliminate the new team please.
Great review! The actions in the expandable can use some improvement. They're just a bunch of guys/gals with big guns go around & destroy shit. Anybody can make this happen in a movie. What they're missing is some real fight seem like Bruce Lee fights!!
This is one of your best reviews and I agree with literally every single thing you said.
CHRIS!!! Nice to see ya support your pal :)
+Chris Stuckmann can you please tell tell us what it's like to be stuckmannized ?
Could the real Stuckmann please stand up?
This franchise could of been so much better.
Virgins. Of course y’all agree🤦🏾♂️
Stallone: First Blood
Arnold: The Terminator
I saw all those R-rated movies before I was 18.
That's coz it's the 80s
I saw the original RoboCop when I was 8 ....lmao
sclimenti19 I saw Predator when I was a fetus...
sclimenti19 Saw it when I was 4 , still love it to this day
We got a badass over here
Now if you couldn't tell by the intro John is clearly trying to once again showoff his arms to all his viewers.....lol
Haha, If I really wanted to do that I would grab some baby oil and do a movie review for Over The Top... Hmm, I might actually do that now.
theFLICKpick Spot on...your review was excellent! Stallone is exploiting a cash cow but is not doing it any justice. This movie was to crammed up! This leaves little character development. theFLICKpick reference to the Arm Wrestling competition Bytheway.....not the gym..
My favorite Stallone is Cobra Arnie Commando
Agree on the Pg-13 rating. My favorite 80s action movies are The Terminator and Die Hard.
Oh yes I am totally with you that giving a movie like this a PG-13 rating is fucking stupid.
I will see this movie next Friday to bash it.
Completely agree, Mel Gibson is probably and by far the stand out star in this movie.
And probably the only actor who took his role seriously.
Great review John I really enjoyed this movie I gave it a B+
Yes!
Hahaha
Gibson actually was very badass in this flick
I liked it. I knew going in the young mercenaries are bland. I agree Mel Gibson is the best part.
The Expendables vs. Predator
I agree with you 100 percent, was thinking the same thing all these movie icons vs, Alians, zombies or the Predator and bring back the R rating.
i actually enjoyed expendables 2. expendables 1 was ehh... but part 3 was soooooo lame
Die Hard will always be my favorite 80s action Movie. And one of my favorite Christmas Movies.
Needed More Mel Gibson, and no! Banderas

Stallone= Cobra. Arnold= The Running Man.
your movie reveiws are hillarious!
I personally really enjoyed the movie, but I still can't help but agree with most things you said
You and Chris are awesome!!!!!!
what do you think about call of duty? It's all a cash grab too considering it doesn't have much of a story and it's all over the top action.
The Expendables 2 is the best so far.
I honestly like your impressions, they really make me laugh :p
I totally agree with you. The best 1980´saction movies: Die Hard, Terminator and Rambo.
That expendables two skit is still one of my favourite videos you've done. The accents made me cry with laughter.
Knife to meet you! Get it?
The Expendables franchise: Films created to fluff an aging 80s and 90s action star's ego, clumsily disguised as homage to previous successful films and cloaked in faux appreciation of actors via excessive cameos and supporting roles.

don't know about your expectations but my only disappointment was jet li not really kicking any ones ass. anything else was absolutely AWWWSOOMMME.
Great review John! I am not a big fan of the Expendables movies, so it doesn't bother me whether its good or not. My favourite Action film from the 80's is Commando, with Arnie. Great one liners and overacting! Love it !
The predator parody T-shirt is awesome
"Good morning. Get to the choppa!"
Great review John :)
I thought expendables was ok, expendables 2 was utter crap. However I watched no.3 and have to say i really enjoyed it. I'm 36 and grew up in the 80's with all the big action movies which i love.

Really respect you and love your vids mate, you'r hilarious and it's good that you're 100% honest with you're opinions :)
perfect explanation about the pg 13 rating
Yeah same here John, Rambo and Terminator
First blood for Stallone and predator for Arnie.
John i felt the exact same way when i was watching this movie, I feel this is the worst out of the 3.
80's-Die Hard followed by Commando. Some of the best one liners ever. I actually like Cobra, it's like the definitive 80's action movie with every cliche in the book.
90's-Last Action Hero. Cruelly underrated IMO
Stallone: FB Part II
Schwarz: Predator
Willis: Die Hard
Ford: Return of the Jedi (but for his performance, Last Crusade)
Agree with everything you're saying here John, this was a terrible movie, the worst of the 3 so far. No character development and didn't make use of some great potential in the actors they have, I mean Arnie was hanging around doing nothing for most of his scenes, what a waste!, also terrible CGI explosions and gunfire, poor dialogue, wasn't interested in the story and didn't care about any of the characters. Total cash grab. Im not seeing any more of these!
It was worth it for hearing Arnold say..."Get to the choppa!"
If we're including the 90's action movies, my pick is 'Point Break'.
Terminator and Rocky
Yes..Jet li has such few credit in 2 and 3.
Hey hey hey!!! We totally agree with what you say about the 80's and 90's, its our bread and butter, lets not try and cash in on this, its of its time and the jokes/quotes are iconic because they worked then, not now! I'd have to say, for Stallone "First Blood", and for Schwarzenegger "Terminator 2: Judgment Day".
I'm probably gonna wait for DVD for this one.
I couldnt agree more John, I really hate the parody element to these films- I have to add I havent seen this installment, my friends were going to see it tonight and I passed on it. You need to use that Arnold roar click more often, and randomly.
I actually liked the first 2 😅
Die Hard and Predator are my favorite action movies.
I think the PG-13 rating really hurts the potential of a movie. With a rates R movie, there's more areas of creativity to work with. My Favourite 80's Movie is Red Scorpion, great Film.
Missed opportunity not casting Danny Glover for this movie
i liked the expendables 3. it had cool action and funny moments. i liked mel gibson who was brutal as the villain. i wouldnt mind more of these movies
I think that if the "finding the new expendables part" was only about 8 minutes, antonio banderas wasnt in the movie, it had blood and gore, and there was none of that wink wink at the audience crap, this movie wouldve been a solid B. Why u no do skits anymore? I remember the good old times when I fell in love with your channel thanks to your skits. The Avengers skit is legendary.
I thought the first two films were pretty good.
I just wanna see Mel Gibson fuck shit up
This movie just took out the very purpose that was trying to be setup from the first movie. Big action stars in one screen and what do they do, replace them with unknown "young but dumb" people. What bother me about all Expendable movies is that it's too much Stallone as if he's number one.
My other Favourite 80's Movie is Bruce Willis Die Hard 2.
Rambo and Predator!
Demolition Man to Total recall.
John you should make an American Psycho t-shirt with your face instead of Bateman's and the tagline should be, 'I need to return some Blu-Rays'
Most Favourite - Predator "Dillon - you son of a bitch!"
Aside from Terminator 1 or 2, I think my favorite Arnold movie would be Predator then Commando.
Commando
First blood
Missing in action
Lethal weapon
Die hard
Above the law
but what were you expecting after the first 2? not to mention this one is pg13.
I cannot argue with you. When I saw the movie in theaters, I didn't mind it, but then I looked back and realized how shitty it truly was.
I sorta thought the point of these films was parody. My wife and I have sat down twice to watch this installment and have just made it past the recruitment of the young folk. Your Arnie impression kills me every time 😂 MORE ARNIE IMPRESSIONS! Or just make a video full of them.
Dat fuckin shirt. You SUNUVA bitch. great review bro.
No, I really liked this movie. I'm just watching for fights. Not expecting good story, acting or script. I guess the new characters are to extend the franchise. Expendables 3 was my 3rd favorite movie
I have to say thank you! Cause I really didn't expected a lot of the Expendables III - though I had a blast... [talking of underpromising, overdelivering].

Rocky 2 and Terminator 2
I like the 1st 1 and 2nd 1 not the third
Bailey Ray I agree. It wasn't great but I''d watch it again if I caught it on TV. Wesley Snipes & Antonio Banderas were fantastic.
Good job, you are almost unrecognizable in 1:55
Predator & Rocky 4.
Predator, and Rambo!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie wasn't as good as part II, but was better than the first. Rousey was my only real problem. I am also glad that they replaced Willis with Ford (not that I dislike Willis). I would give it a B (3.5 out of 5 stars)
My favorite 1980s action movie is kindergarden cop.
That's exactly how I felt about the first movie. I wanted it to be awesome, but it was just fucking nonsense. Couldn't watch the others after that.
I love all the action
The Rocky franchise was my favorite from Stallone
No they almost got mel
Man I don't know if I should watch it now. Did Arnold have a big part at least? Lol
You gotta give it to commando all the cheesy goodness
You gave a better rating to Age of Extinction....wise move.
I stopped watching The Expendables after the first one, these are NOT the great action films we know and love from the 80's, they are a slap in the face to fans.
I'd like to see just one review with old action stars that doesnt contain your piss-poor impersonations xD
Rambo 2, and Ninja turtles 1 and 2 secret of the ooze
I saw the first expendables being a die hard stallone fan and will never forget the disappointment I felt. Then the second was okay a little better but still kinda mediocre.
