👍👍👍 Going to post more from those days.
Was that a swarm of angry bees?? No, 125s on the pipe!!! Love that sound
Came looking for this comment cause I was thinking the same thing.. hahahahaha..
@@milesdufourny3783 wasnt that called. Maxima "Caster 927" i feel in all honesty caster 927 was all around better for your clutches but i dont know how anyone could say it smelled better then Klotz Benol. Mmmmmmmmmmm. It just sa dang good!
I miss the days of Ricky Johnson...David Bailey...Jeff Ward...Johnny O mara....
Epic, my dude ivan in there too. Back when there was not a single 4 stroke on the track! Good old days lol
Logan you could actually hear the people you came to the track with talk. that was nice.
Dang, I miss that sound! I miss racing. Thank you for posting this. Travis is definitely one of a kind. Pretty cool to see him at this stage.
Those were the days my friend.... :) So many lifetime accomplishments. Thanks again for these priceless vids !
You upload the best videos! for our love for our sport!
Excellent. Thanks for sharing this Gary.
Shouts out to the camera man for good consistency.
Thanks for sharing this video Mr Bailey👍 Now I will have to check the Vault to see who all was in that race that Pastrana beat.
97 I was racing then shame it's all 4 strokes now hope they bring the 2 stroke action back. the by far
My son is getting ready to transition to 125's at the end of the season. Great motivational video 4 us. Thanks Gary. 👍
Toby H schoolboy is probably one of the toughest classes. Great place to learn how to be the fastest tho lol.
Don't forget the value of cross training!! Trials bikes, singletrack, and even stand up jet skis. Standup jet skis are a great FUN way to stay in shape. Works similar muscle groups. Helps you get "smooth". And youre always getting a good workout swimming back to the ski every time you crash. No track fees, they dont eat tires/chains/pistons, and low injury risk! Hope he does well. 125 days are pivotal and fun times
I was always too big for 125s in my day. But ya gotta love that sound! Just ON THE PIPE the entire race. Love it...
Awesome stuff Gary. Trav has been my favorite rider since I was a kid.
I so miss those days.
Thanks for sharing this! My body tensed up like it was my own kid. I had a hard time breathing correctly. Lol. Not to take away from tedesco, but man was u pulling for Travis.
Thank-you Professor Gary Bailey for posting this video. You are helping us all get geared up for the MX Des Nations in Michigan. I hope to see you there! I think David Bailey represented the USA at one of the MX Des Nations, didn't he?
3 or more times and would have been at least 1 more if he didn't have the accident.
Woah, TP, didn’t have hand guards😂😂😂
I had the pleasure of getting smoked by Ivan that same year at Ponca. Good times, thanks for uploading this vid. Pure gold.
To me, going fast on a race track is always more impressive than any tricks or flips. I always wondered how fast Travis could have been had he committed himself to it long term. We'll never know.
Don't think he has the attention span to buckle down to training for racing. Seems like his mind is best going in a million different directions, he's made a pretty good living of it.
Imagine if all his achievements in freestyle motocross never happened. I agree that seeing his full potential in racing would have been very interesting but this man had so much more of an impact on fmx that racing never could. Can you ever imagine the double backflip being landed for the first time and it not be him? I can't!
@@abracing199I agree but he also said he wasn’t willing to be an asshole. If he had friends that raced with him, he wanted to remain friends on the track. He wasn’t willing to do whatever it took to win. His quote was something like “Ricky Carmichael was willing to be an asshole and I wasn’t.” Essentially, he’s too nice. He felt bad if someone went down because of him. He wanted to be the nice guy and unfortunately nice guys finish last. He was a hell of a racer though. I feel like people took advantage of him being the “kid” of his era and would bully him around and he just got sick of it.
TP199 said during his very very very lengthy Whiskey Throttle Show that we actually saw him probably as good as he could ever be, that he actually tried really hard but that he wasn't "that good"
Been to your school over 5 times growing up at Byron il .. I went on and got myself a top ten at Loretta’s .. them were the good old days .. nice video , thanks...
Before Aaron, Joe ran the show
Trivia question
Who ran Byron before Joe?
Joes Dad .. I’m just Guessing . Two words Saw Dust.. That was when the track was rough and tough. Miss them days.
Gary would smack my hand with a peice of sno fence if I dident have two fingers on the clutch. Love that guy.
Darrin Hill
I first experienced Byron in the spring of '74 on an XR-75
"Moto Mike" was the first to run Motosports Park (before Joe)
He would sit on top of the sign in shack and read off riders meeting with a bullhorn
He then moved on and ran Tipton Iowa
And for the record, it wasn't saw dust rather wood chips in the back section ( the early 90's)
That back berm was fuckin legendary (Byrons version of original Southwick)
I loved watching Jim Veugeler, Bob Behrens, Jr. Jackson, Breck Powers DESTROY it
That group were the only ones doubling the huge triple
As for the Gary's school, I totally remember the "smack the hands" thing
I also remember David being at the school in 1980 (#45 Kawasaki) and Gary having him lay his bike on the face of the uphill (trying to block the fast line) and the students would have to negotiate around his bike (find a fresh line)
Here's one for the wayback machine - remember Maplehurst?
Nothing better than that swarm of bee’s to the first turn😎🤘🏻🤙🏻
Travis is still one of the most naturally gifted riders to ever live....I don’t follow his other endeavors much these days, but when he was racing, I was obsessed with that #199...he was/is my idol
A rare look at Travis Pastrana *without* handgaurds
Nobody fixed his goggle strap for him? Pffft...
SlimJimmy he needs to get a custom goggle strap that matches the picture on the custom painted helmet perfectly when it is in the right place...that's how a real savage does it
These were the days when REAL riders rode REAL BIKEs for REAL MX. Dicking around with goggle-straps was not much of a priority ..
Something most of us consider a serious failure when it comes to moto style. The mechanic (or even Gary Bailey filming, who had a son with more style than nearly everyone else) must have received a death threat (after all his pants weren't on fire) just prior, to have let that slip. Probably the poor mechanic still can't stand being reminded, or maybe he's now that old guy you see at the local track whose goggles hang down and always have.
Good seeing Travis anything with dirtbikes Travis is a warrior in that sport and one of the most athletic persons on the planet really
Winnig a championship, awesome!! The smirk after the interview, PRICELESS!!!
Great work. Thanks
Wow is this THE GARY BAILEY????? I CAN'T BELIEVE I CAME ACROSS YOUR CHANNEL. I WENT TO YOUR RACE SCHOOL IN DANVILLE VIRGINIA WHEN I WAS ABOUT 16 WITH MY KX80!!!! YOUR WERE A GOD TO ME AND STILL ARE!!! YOUR TRACK WAS AMAZING!!! AND THE KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNIQUE THAT YOU TAUGHT WAS AND STILL IS EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL!!!! DO YOU STILL RIDE?? IS YOUR SCHOOL STILL BEING HELD?? I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLD SON AND WOULD LOVE FOR HIM TO PARTAKE IN THIS AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!
Man, TP had really good throttle control in the corners and got insanely good as his career progressed. Sure his freestyle was great, but I think Pastrana had some of the best cornering technique I’ve ever seen. Very underrated discipline and skill.
txman276 he stayed upright a lot more than everyone else pure throttle skill
@@ryanlynch2259 it was all in the roost deflector flappy thingy things lol!!! He was using them before they were even cool. Thats his secret to success lmfao
My brother Aaron Day was in this race # 28 he's in the background at the end. Brings back so many memories.
I remember arron day ,from acuasco mx park. He had a brother that was fast also.
i added this to my good music playlist
Pretty cool seeing Travis in his younger years... awesome
Track was mint....
Great! I Will follow 😃👍🏼🇸🇪
Tedesco was keeping him honest most of that moto. What a awesome battle!
Hell yeah thank you
God bless Loretta Lynn!
Nothing like these days! Those em 125s were the most fun you could have on a 125
Jamie thanks for all the facts, all good to know.
Thanks Gary!
I love to hear Tim Cotter giving the play by play. Feels like summertime.
I miss the days of the high pitched shriek of a 125. Plus the smell of race fuel and 2 cycle oil.
Good ole days...him..Mr rob and Ms Debbie are great people. I spent many weekends racing with him and having fun at his RV at night with the Pastranas brings back great track memories even though he used to destroy us once the gate dropped lol
Travis and Ivan had one heck of a battle most of that motto.
I heard the name Ben Riddle. I think he currently offers coaching at Spyder MX in Wildwood, FL.
Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while and forgot all about. I think it was him way way back that got into some type of underground or cage fighting or something like that for a bit when his max career wasn’t going as planned.
Murder hornets charging into turn one...
Ivan was smooth in the corners but Travis owned those jumps!
Great battle
Excellent 👍
Gary Bailey the legend. I miss training at Baileys Mx school those were the days
conventional 97/98 twin chamber cartridge forks.. i only saw his front end get loose once .im sure it was on the last lap. got me 3 pairs of those. the inverted's are replaced with 98 rm forks every new bike i get..love to here travs report on those forks
Does anybody know who was on that YZ the Travis was battling with
Back when tracks used to be technically challenging separating the field out
Can you please post race date ? That would be nice
I had those same fox 360 pants back in the day
Wow......... Incredible footage..... Pastrana... Probably the most exciting but most inconsistent riders of all time...... He cud come first or dead last on the same day..... Incredible rider... Just a loonatic!!
Gotta love the goggle strap schwag
That was a great race...
Bro is crazy as a mf!!!!!!! Bro is a absolute LEGEND AT THE VERY MF LEAST!!!!!
I thought Travis was looking back to see if he had room for tricks he was thinking about it....THANKS good race
Class act!
my right ear is still waiting for this race
I live about two hours North of Hurricane Mills and it is hot and humid that time of year. I mean really humid.
T-SMOOTH!
Those mosquitoes are going off!
You can tell which ones know how to get a holeshot just by how where their heads are facing lol
Way to keep it on 2 wheels!👍🏻
Next stop Las Vegas, Way to go Travis World record jump!!!
Travis was absolutely shredding.
Interesting to see the 100% sticker on his fender, what did they make before goggles and apparel?
I'm pretty sure just numbers and stickers. Back before they had pre printed number plate backgrounds I remember seeing them
it is possible they change a little every year when being rebuilt. you know as the bikes get better and the riders little better they make a bigger they make challenges a little bigger.
Ivan ran a good race until Travis decided to check out
traviss is such a good dude good friend
Travis is cool I raced with him a couple times in Fl back in the 90's Fun times.
Is he on a stock bike?
Pastrana is definitely earned the name wonder boy. I'm not sure who he's chasing in the 1 spot but Travis is about 6 inch taller than him and probably 60lbs heavier. Travis was always in great shape for racing. He will forever be my favorite, first it was Rick Johnson and then Pastrana.
The goggle strap
Damn tim cotter looked young!
Not a back brace... it’s chest protector, front and back
His goggle strap so low on helmet is freaking me out for some reason.
Dustin Schlickau he has it like that so the custom paint job on the helmet can be seen.
Sounds like an angry swarm of bees! I love the smell of race gas in the morning.
Albuquerque N.M.😍👍
probably the last time he rode regular forks
Ricky Carmichael raced two years ago because I was there and seen him ride
Ben riddle was the man to beat around here in ky....his lap times at dbmx in London ky were light yrs ahead of everyone else....got the holeshot in his first supercross....I remember it well...fell in the oxycontin hole I recon and ruined it all
bens dad was a dickhead. i remember a buddy knocking his ass out at muddy creek for stealing the water line to wash bens bike in the middle of someone else washing theres. cocky elitist asshat.
I raced there also. I knew Ben. He got into trouble for trafficking Weed. His dad was good in my book.
Watched Clark Stiles there , Mike Brown too, remember the Cannondale MX400 ?? seen it run there , or attemp to run can't remember who the pilot was
You’re telling me Ivan Tedesco was fast enough in 1997 to lead golden boy Pastrana through most of a Loretta Lynn’s 125A moto, but didn’t get a popular run in the _lites_ division until after two-stroke motorcycles had been forced outta the picture in professional racing & after Travis had long since stopped racing Motocross & Supercross... by the time Tedesco was a top level pro, Pastrana had already moved past WRC Rally Racing & was well into Lyn-Z & _Nitro Circus..._
Wish would of raced just a little bit more before go on to fmx
I heard Ivan Tedesco and Andrew Short names called
Goggle strap swag.
Tedesco hauling the mail at the beginning of the moto.
42 leaders Bike is way faster than 199's. Wonder if RC4 & JS7 are in the pack?
Balls of your feet ...finger on the clutch lean your head into the corner weight the outside peg ..no ones perfect some are just closer than others
Before the days of the Bubba Scrub.
Wow,Pastrana is the best
Thanks, been doing this for many years. Every time I was out with one of my riders I most always had my camera. Never know what you are going to get. 13 years with Travis. Good to go back and see detail.
Gary Bailey awesome camera skills for back then, thanks
I hope you horrified him for sitting down so much!
I have some videos of stew I took in 01 at Loretta’s. No one ever rode that track faster.
Great old videos. 1987 Lake Sugar tree amateurs event the day before the nationals. 125B class was a awesome battle.
