LYRICS: We’re a great big rollin railroad, one that everybody knows, we were born of gold and silver spikes, a hundred years ago, were a million miles of history, shining in the sun, We’re the Union Pacific, and our story’s just begun. From the Great Plains of Nebraska, to the California seas, from the summits of the Rockies to the mighty redwood trees. We’re a thousand wheels of freight train, hear the Diesel engines power, were the Union Pacific, doin’ 90 miles an hour! (Music) Bound from Omaha to Portland, through Cheyenne, and Laramie, were heading west for Boise, on the mainline to the sea, cross the flats in Salt Lake City, onto Vegas and LA. We’re the Union Pacific, and we’ve got the right of way! From the green fields of the prairies, to the blue pacific shore, we’ll deliver your freight, cargo, and come rollin’ home for more! On the backbone of our nation, you can see us make the climb, we’re the Union Pacific, and we’re gonna be on time! From the green fields of the prairies, to the blue pacific shore, we deliver your freight, cargo, and come rollin’ home for more! On the backbone of our nation, you can see us make the climb, We’re the Union Pacific, and we’re gonna be on timeeeeeee!! 🇺🇸 Your welcome :)
I can play music by ear and am thrilled to be able to play this the first time I've heard it! And I've since been replaying it for the last 45 minutes, oops 😅 To be fair it's super catchy and fun to sing or clap along to as well and I'm sure I'll be humming the tune while I do a few house chores later too 😂
As a railroad enthusiast, I do watch many videos on youtube, gladly surprised about many shots from Rochelle (Il) in this one. I did have visited The USA many, many, times for business, generally within the Chicago area. and spend many hours between holidays and weekends that had to be on business in Downtown Chicago, but left, "not without some regret", the beautifully Windy City, which I love with all my heart, and drove my occasionally rental car those 64 miles forwarding Rochelle. Direct to the AmericInn or Super 8, then reserved a room, didn't even leave my suitcases, and went to the Food Market (Sullivan maybe?) over Il-38 to buy Colleslow some Spinach bags and a large Gingerale, from there to the HotSpot (Rochelle Railroad Park), regardless of the time or the weather, cold, warm, snow, In the rain, I would sit at the first bench of the gazebo facing the intersection and took vids and photos as possible. That was more than 20 years ago, now I am 67 and retired, I miss those days of joyous satisfaction watching the "Large Consist and noisy steel crossing track" of those Union Pacific or BN&SF. Trains, I will miss you, Rochelle ................. Bay the way, this song I have a recorder in many different ways along the years, including different Lyrics Thank you for posting.
I bet if they had a passenger service, it would beat amtrak since they wouldn't have to be slow as shit. Waiting on freight trains all the time. That's why I don't ride amtrak anymore its too damn slow. And accommodation is mid. I would definently ride up, kcs, bnsf etc if they ran passenger. And I'm sure others would since the airliner craze is over. You could ride in much better luxury in a class 1 passenger service than a airliner or amtrak I'm sure
They still have passenger service, however operated using Metra rolling stock. Also they gave the other passenger services to Amtrak and the freight companies make it hard for Amtrak to make a profit
Bound from Omaha to Portland through Cheyenne and laramie were a heading west for Boise on the mainline to the sea cross the flats in salt lake city onto Vegas and LA
I didn’t notice the NYC heritage unit, however the NYC’s best diesel locomotive colo scheme was of the lightening stripes. I used to live 750 feet from the Buffalo to Niagara Falls Line of the old New York Central railroad. In the period of 1959 to about 1964 New York Central was phasing out the lightening striped color scheme for that newer ugly oval and that damned cheap cigar band scheme on its diesel locomotives. When the New York Central did that along with the state of New York taxing the hell out of the railroads but not taxing all other big businesses that was the downfall and the end of the New York Central. Union Pacific & Norfolk Southern having the heritage units of the railroads that once were is a great tribute to them.
Nice to see 844 still chugging along ;)
0:03 very rare footage of the Union pacific caboose and a visible person inside of it.

theres a UP Caboose at fullerton station in Fullerton California in a railway museum right next to the BNSF mainline

The Union Pacific Railroad has been in business and running since 1862 when if laid it’s first rails and went West. That’s over 160 years.

It's very folksy. Woody Guthrie type.
Why does this sound like the perfect voice, beat, and tempo for a Christmas song just with different lyrics?
This sounds like its from a Rakin Bass Special Picture the puppets dancing while the model train move
My listens to this song all the time and now I can’t stop listening to it
This ad was on TV during the late 1970s. I remember it, but liked the other one too with different people singing.

Great Big Rollin Railroad written by CW McCall. He did other train songs also. The Silverton and Galloping Goose.

C. W. McCall was actually named Bill Fries. The hit he's really known for is the 1970s trucking ballad, "Convoy." He left us in 1922.
