A Noisy Metal Detecting Trip - With A Huge Find

  • I saw an interesting area while hiking with a metal detector in my bag. I decided to stop and the next hunt unfolded. One find lead to another and I end up at a very nice spot. Unfortunately the MicroSD card stopped recording at the best moment... I have forgotten to empty it before the hunt and had to switch to my 2GB card (from another cam). Because of it, I could not record everything in full length at the end, but I hope that you can see the most important parts.
    The gigantic coin looking item I found was a big surprise. As soon as I saw the spoon handle, I knew it was the right spot. The beautiful fork confirmed it.
    I was pretty sure that I found another silver Thaler. It had the same size and weight like the one I found before: www.youtube.co....
    "Unfortunately" it seems to be something else. I'm not sure what it is, maybe someone can help...
    All in all it was a noisy but memorable and "successful" metal detecting trip.
    Thanks for watching!

    One of my all time favorite detecting videos. I love your vids. The no narration, gives your videos a pov as though the viewer is on the hunt, doing the digging.

    I especially like that you show yourself getting the signals and digging the targets out of the ground.So many You Tube video posters only show you what they found once its in their hand,so its like show and tell.I honestly don't know how they could have so many subscribers.Your subtitles are great and I love the fact that you don't feel the need to add music to your videos.I like the natural sounds of the forest and nature.

      Thank you very much for the comment. To be honest, I don't like watching videos with already dug out targets either. It is simply not interesting. I don't understand why the majority of people seems focusing on the finds only, but that's not the only thing that amazes me...
      I will try to do some hunts in the woods and capture a higher audio quality (in the future). I wish you all the best. HH.

    That is some of the hardest digging ever! Mostly rocks with a bit of dirt "glue" and quite a few treasures. You also have the oldest finds I have ever seen. I really am amazed that you don't just throw everything you hunt with into the nearest ravine and quit. But keep it up because it is great to watch and listen to birds.

    Ames diggers have a sharp serrated edge on one side. I've cut through roots up to an inch thick with them before. I buy them cheap at Home Depot or Lowes hardware. They're very strong & I pick em up about 5 at a time. I figure if they quit making them I should have enough to last me a while. I'm only on my second one after digging about a ten thousand targets. Now I see the serrates on your digger. Looks like you almost wore them smooth, along with your pinpointer. Looks like you do a lot of detecting. Nice vid, thanks for uploading...

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому +3

      Thank you for the comment and the tip. My knife is becoming dull pretty quickly, but that's the nature of a terrain like this. The serrated edge is very nice at the beginning, but after a while it is loosing its purpose. I can already see the inside of my pinpointer, but it is still working. Have a nice day!

    Another fun and pleasant hunt with some interesting finds. The item at about 38:10 might be a corkscrew from a multi-bladed utility knife. like a military model, or the commercially available "Swiss Army Knife". If you ever identify the large disk find, please let us know. There have been some beautiful medals made in Germany over the years, and many of them were large diameter pieces like your discovery. Thanks for sharing!

      +Philip Wagner - Thank you very much. I will try to find out more about the round object.
      About the "corkscrew"... I believe it has decorative purpose (the material would not be strong enough otherwise).

    good silver dollar find. I know folks have a cow over rubbing a coin, but the truth is its already going to have sediment scratches everywhere even without rubbing it. you Really can't hurt it too bad. I use a soak pan myself. if the sediment is stubborn I use olive oil. if the coin is not really worth much I use water and a soft toothbrush sometimes coming out of the ground those coins are already devalued simply for that reason.

      The camera is called: "Mobius Action Cam". If you are looking for one, there will be a new (Mobius 2) model coming soon. Maybe (at this stage) it is better to wait with the decision (just in case). It takes pictures too, but I don't have any experience with it (they are probably of the same resolution as the video footage). You should clean that medal or whatever this is a bit more, than put a paper over it and scrape a pencil across, so that the outlines of the design appear on the paper. Alternatively, take a detail-pgoto and push up contrast in your photo-software. It will make the details better visible. To me, it seems as if there are "ancient" type letters around the rim, and either a bird (eagle?) in the middle, or an angel with wings.

    when i hunt i srub the ground with the coil . i go through a few coil covers but get some extra depth i get under the leaves

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому

      It is always a good idea to hold the coil as low as possible. Unfortunately I'm in an area with many stones in the ground. They are often covered with leaves, hard or impossible to spot. I have to keep a small margin, otherwise I would destroy the coil very quickly.

  • @ferrousunderground712
    @ferrousunderground712 8 років тому

    serious question ... how do u feel about the 11inch coil on the deus versus the ATpro.... or versus the 9 inch for the deus....which I have and I'm not all that impressed with the depth.... but I still use it religiously in the heavy iron.....thoughts

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому

      +FerrousUnderground - Unfortunately I never had the chance to try the AT Pro, so I can not answer the question. I prefer the 11" over the 9" in the woods (to cover more space in less time). I'm not convinced about the depth of the 11", or the 9" coil either (I don't think, there is much difference - maybe between some production series...).
      The 11" coil is even more EMI prone than the 9" (the 4kHz mode is useless because of it). It is also falsing when it touches plants and the sensitivity is above 90 (maybe other 11" coils are more stable, who knows).
      I would use the 9" coil for areas with many targets in the ground, or dense iron. But if you prefer fast hunting style (like me), the 11" offers "more action".

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  7 років тому +1

      Yes, the lenses are different (to each other) but both are normal stock versions. The camera for the "normal" view uses a (so called) "lens A" (this is the narrower angle type).
      The "macro" camera uses "lens C" (this is the wider version). It has to be focused manually for close range. You can do it relatively easy, but the case has to be opened (the warranty is gone). You can connect the "macro" camera to a PC (via USB cable), set it as a webcam and adjust the proper sharpness (by turning the lens) (you have to unscrew the lens first).
      I believe there are even videos on UA-cam, how to do it.
      Cheers.

      Surprisingly, isn't it? Maybe because I know what I'm doing. Keep your advice for someone else and don't tell me how I should hunt.

    Witam , fajna delikatna wykrywka , myślisz że x terra będzie lepsza? jutro postaram sie napisać do ciebie , ewentualnie podam ci adres , lub nr. tel. jakiś oskard lub łopatkę bys sobie sprawił lżej by było i szybciej. filmik oczywiście dobry . Gdzie zamieszkujesz? bo chyba nie w Polsce? sądząc po monetkach które znalazłeś?Ale gruntu to ci kolego nie zazdroszczę. pozdrawiam

      +j. zwierzak - Mysle ze X-Terra to bardzo dobry sprzet (przynajmniej patrzac na niektore widea). Zaluje ze wielokrotnie podjalem inny wybor... Deus jest czuly na male, drobne i wieksze, ale plytko lezace rzeczy. Dobry sprzet na rekonesans w stylu jaki lubie, czyli szybka akcja przy szerokiej informacji audio (nie patrze na numery wyswietlacza, wiec jest to dla mnie bardzo wazne).
      Lopata w tym terenie nie za bardzo dziala (przynajmniej dla mnie). Czesto lepiej jest wbic waskie ostrze noza w mala szpare i podwarzyc kamien, niz lupac duza lopata w twarde podloze. Usuwanie kamienia po kamieniu jest tez czesto lepsza metoda, zeby nie uszkodzic znalezisk. Czasem ruszenie "zlego" kamienia moze miec zle skutki. Potrzebuje tez jedna wolna reke, zeby utrzymywac balans (co i tak jest juz trudne, jesli zlicze swoje upadki i "zjazdy" ze stromych skarp). Z lopata nie dosc ze bym upadl, to jeszcze pewnie dostal bym nia po chwili w glowe.
      P.S. Szukam w Niemczech. Jestem najlepiej osiagalny przez email. Chetnie wyslalbym Ci tez kilka typow do kamerki, bo widze ze masz podobny problem ktory mialem na poczatku (czyli szybko wyczerpujace sie baterie, zajeta jedna reka i limit czasu nagrywania).
      Pozdrawiam

      +MetalDetecting24 Ano masz rację , masz straszny grunt, łopata nie zda się na nić , myślałem że deus jest głęboki tak mi kolega tłumaczył. pewno przechwalił w takim razie , no fakt każdy chwali swoje. dopiero wróciłem z wykopków , znowu byłem w elipsie upadku roju, na koniec dnia coś wreszcie znalazłem . ładny rdzawy kawałek rozerwanego kamienia ,dość spory ale mieśći sie w dłoni. znalazłem tez inne fanty , lecz ze względu na wielkość i odległość od samochodu nie mogłem ich zabrać , zakopałem , będę za pare dni to zabiore 8 łusek od niemieckiej armaty 88 przeciwlotniczej . wielkie bestie, mam tylko nadzieję że nikt mi ich nie zwinie z przed nosa. jutro odpiszę ci na maila , żona mówiła że przysłałeś wiadomość, ale nie byłem w mieszkaniu w mieście od razu wróciłem do chaty w lasie. dobra to do jutra , napiszę ci chyba numer telefonu do siebie to pogadamy. pozdrawiam

    I like watching you hunt....but you make me cringe throwing that expensive detector around....yikes

      Thanks. Expensive or not, in the end of the day it's just a tool (the Deus can take it ;). Cheers.

      Not that I would toss my Deus about,but If I drop it by accident,say in a grassy park ,Im not as worried as I would be if I were to drop the AT Pro or E-Track.The Deus is light as a Feather,so much less prone to damage.

    • @LyudmilaRGVK
      @LyudmilaRGVK 8 років тому

      Of course I wouldn't want to drop any detector over pavement or a bunch of rocks.

      There is a Video of someone driving over a Deus arm rest with a SUV.They are pretty tough.I've seen people really trash their detectors.I try to keep mine nice.I even have 3 camoflage covers on my Deus from the UK.

      That's true, the Deus is very tough. You can feel it in comparison to other detectors.
