This is the information exactly I was looking for. I have been using Prinston Neptune and Da Vinci Casaneo watercolour brushes since they are vegan. They are good brushes, but now I am more interested in Escoda travel brushes! I have the Neptune travel brushes, but I love that Escoda makes all different shapes of travel brushes. I am sure I will add a dagger brush to my collection! Thank you so much for your in-depth video!
Great review thanks. It's another set where I could only see myself using 2 in the set. I think I will need to create my own. The wee dagger brush isn't easily available in the UK and that's a real shame.
Hi Christine! ❤️ I've reached out to Escoda to see if they have it - they do but not in a travel format separately. Just with a regular handle. Here is a link: www.escoda.com/artists_shop/synthetic_brushes/perla/white_toray_synthetic/70
Btw, a dagger has shorter bristles and not as steep an angle, you have a sword which is much longer and a much steeper angle. Both are wonderful it just depends on the user since a sword can be harder to control. I really like the sword and it rivals my rigger for fine lines
The box says “dagger” and all official distributors like Jackson’s Art and others have identified it as a dagger... Very interesting - I am going to check directly with Escoda and Speedball Art. Thank you for bringing this to my attention Cianna!
@@AnnaBucciarelli The traditional definition has been somewhat lost since many companies tend to use the terms interchangeably. Sharon Cullen Art has a video about the differences in the two. Depending on the company even an angle brush (even less angle than a dagger) can be called a dagger or sword such as Simply Simon. While in the grand scheme of things it may not be that big of a deal it does make a difference when you use a Simply Simon 1/2" "sword" (more of an "angle" brush) vs Black Velvet 3/4 "striper" (a traditional name for the sword but what some companies use for daggers or even riggers as well). These two brushes are vastly different but someone who is unfamiliar will look at the name and say "oh they are both the same just different because of the manufacturer."
the perla dagger doesn't seem to EXIST outside of this set.... what do you do if you wear it out?? or just want one singly like i do? *(any idea where to buy it?)*
Hmmmm good question - so Speedball is the official mass- distributor for escoda in North America and I think it really depends on geography from there. Here in Canada we have very limited supply in brick and mortar stores (compared to Europe) so I usually search online… but if Amazon doesn’t offer it…. I am afraid it may not available 😔 sorry I wish I had a better answer - for Perla specifically. But do check out escoda Chronos - its new, it’s the best synthetic mix I’ve ever tried and I’ve been painting with them since April - they are available at Jackson’s Art in US I believe 😊
@@AnnaBucciarelli i’ve never seen the Escoda in a brick and mortar store. None of the travel brushes anyway. But wow a Chronos?? Definitely were not on my radar I did not know they existed. If they’re as awesome as you say, I will definitely try and get my hands on one! Maybe that US-based art supply store that carries Rosemary & Co brushes might have one.
Great question. In general, synthetics last longer because the hairs can “withstand” more “abuse” for lack of a better term. I’ve used real sable exclusively in the past for about 3 years straight, and my brushes lasted about 3 months or almost daily use until the tip would start to fray and separate (after that I would retire them for gouache work but honestly they were done... then I switched to synthetics gradually and they would last me about 9 months on average. Now these particular travel brushes I’ve had since October so I can’t say exactly how long they will last but my expectation is 9 months to a year at least if I use them frequently (I have a lot more brushes now so no brush gets used daily). I hope this makes sense 😊
The sword brush looks interesting! I love the versatil too, so....this might be a great set for me to tryout. I mostly do figurative/portrait work so I'm not sure how the sword would workout but It might be one to have in my arsenal. A few weeks ago I mentioned that I purchased both the Versatil & Reserva, and I'd let you know what I thought about them. I love them but I must say I prefer the Versatil for my method of painting, It's a bit of a work horse brush. Here are the results I got with them! instagram.com/p/B8SP03WnLfT/
Beautiful rose Nathan! Just saw it on your insta:) Definitely agree on the Versatil being able to sustain more harsh strokes - I love to lift color with my #4 or #6 and not worry about the damage. The sword would be useful for hair and eye lashes - just the details though when you do close up portraits....otherwise not much use for it in figurative work imo I really love it as a decorative brush :) Have a wonderful weekend!
For travelling, I love the red set because it has 2 Versatil (they are my fav)...At home I use this black the most because I love this dagger (sometimes I switch them up and put the dagger in my red case to go) 😊❤️
I absolutely love your work! Please do ink and watercolor ink tutorials!
Thank you so much Jody! ❤️ I just posted a new ink tutorial this morning :) Enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/4kB3NZwN4wk/v-deo.html
Yes please do an ink tutorial! Love what you do
Thank you Robin ❤️ I just posted my first ink tutorial - more to come next week! Enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/4kB3NZwN4wk/v-deo.html
Your brush handling skill reminds me of Zorro skill with a sword.
Hahaha I need to tell this to my son 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you!!!!
i loved the sword
or dagger
😊❤️ It’s so much fun! Thank you 😊

These videos are fabulous! Thank you. Very helpful. I kept wondering why I loved my versatil so much.
Thank you Alison! Versatil is awesome and I am glad to hear other artists are enjoying it too :))) Have a wonderful weekend ❤️
Those lovely pansies really caught my eye. Can’t wait to watch you paint them.

Thank you so much! I've been waiting for this the whole week 🤣
Awwww thank you so much for your support! ❤️

@@AnnaBucciarelli thanks Anna. Unfortunately again I can't find it from a UK supplier. One to keep an eye out for in the future though. 😊

Hi Anna, what Escoda Versatil sizes do you recommend...Thank you (I like to work on medium to large painting)
Awesome

They should really sell that dagger Perla separately, too!
I totally agree!:)))
What is the lifespan of these brushes, please?

Thanks for this answer. I bet we were all wondering and planning to do some switches that help our own style.
