  • Getting the C10 ready for rear disc brakes, using GM D52 calipers and a set of swap CaptainFab 12bolt brackets. A look at some of the parts we're using, and starting teardown.
    This setup uses OEM-type GM D52 (fullsize) calipers, 1.25" AstroVan front rotors, CaptainFab brackets, and will plumb into my existing Hydroboost power brake system on my truck.

    I’ve watched a dozen disc swaps for the front and your the first that mentioned anything about the master cylinder and brake lines.

    Too bad you couldnt finish part 2. You were doing so well and were very detailed and easy to understand. I just ordered the same kit and will be doing the same swap in about a week.

      The install is finished and the video exists, but its a mostly unedited version which has some gaps in it from missing footage over the past summer. I'll put it up eventually, but I don't have much time to edit anymore and the truck is on other phases of the project. My IG has a few more recent updates from the summer which show a little bit more of the disc upgrade.

    For those who view this and see the "what about part 2" comments....its been out a while but some folks might not have found their way over there: ua-cam.com/video/FIV26fn7VMA/v-deo.html I'm still alive, and believe it or not, there is actually new video being edited. Maybe I'll beat my 1-per-year recent upload habit. :)

      My axles were held hostage at a failing machine shop, and after fighting for a couple months to get them back, they were basically destroyed by a hack machinist. I have everything sitting ready to go, but am waiting on my new set of custom Moser axles before I can finish the install.

    What all did u have to change from the 97 ASTRO? Did the power boost bolt right in or did u have to mod anything?

    • @REVJHD
      @REVJHD  3 роки тому

      I modified the bracket that held the booster to the firewall. The astro booster is designed to sit at a slight angle on the van firewall, which would make it point down on the c10. There are brackets that are designed for the swap now, but I just modified the face of the old bracket to remove the angle and sit flat. If I did it again I would either make a bracket from scratch, or buy one (mine works fine just isn't a pretty as it should be). I'm using the booster and master from the Astro, with the Wilwood D52's in front, stock d52s out back, a manual prop valve, and custom NiCo lines.

    Hey this is very interesting, I have a QUESTION, I have a 70, 3 door suburban that is a 4x4 and I am going to Switch the Axles so I have Disc Brakes, " Drum Brakes Now", It does not have a Booster, will I need to add a Booster and a Diff Pro Valve? I have switched Axles on trucks before But Not one such as this one with Drums on front and NO Booster? I just want it done the right way.. IF ANY ONE CAN HELP! Thanks!!

    • @REVJHD
      @REVJHD  5 років тому

      You can still run non-power brakes with front disc (my truck ran that way for a few years), just swap the prop valve so it doesn't lock the rear right away. With the correct non-power master cylinder, it will stop fine. If your using the master cylinder off a power-brakes truck, it will feel a bit low on stopping power (the piston/plunger on the power brake trucks has a different diameter).

      @@REVJHD and your a fool not to have one! Better hope you don't have to have inspected, you would fail, then have to park it till you set up an E-brake. Willwood makes a kit to do just that, yes a few bucks but what is your life worth? Or there are GM rear calipers that have an E-brake that would bolt onto the brackets you are using.

    What vehicle has D52 calipers from the factory? Are those Wilwood brake calipers in the front straight bolt on??

    • @REVJHD
      @REVJHD  5 років тому +1

      A huge number of GM cars and trucks, it was the primary default caliper for most of the full-frame car era in the early 70's into the 90's. C10s, Caddy Eldorado's and others. The wilwoods bolt on the existing D52 bracketry, and will fit 15" + wheels (close fit on some 15's).

    • @alexalanis8077
