I actually enjoyed the interview afer realizing I'd have to put up will a little fluff from these two. This is a great talk for the vast majority who are NOT techies, do not watch YT videos on tech and do not post. More than inventions or innovation, we need folks who will explain what these mean and how they will affect those who don't care about the mechanics. I have grave doubts that a machine will every know what humans feel. Virtually all our thoughts and actions center on needs - food, money, shelter, companionship, performance, love, communication, mobility, entertainment. A device that needs none of these cannot understand what it means to be human. And what will it mean when we want for nothing since that has been our existence forever?

A Terminator solution is not likely but I fear a society planned and controlled by machines that do not need the very things that make us human especially relationships. A great novel on those lines (one of my top 5 of all time) was the "The Inquisitor's Progress" tracing the ":life" of a medieval inquisitor who dies and discovers he is simply part of a huge game.

I don't agree with Kaku that we should install a bomb in their heads as a fail safe. I mean how friendly would you be with someone who forced you that way? Obvious problem: there are old-time cancer treatments that work, but (of course) that would less profitable - hence I agree with Ginni Rometty that it's a matter of WHO teaches the AI - because if you are taking an oncology assistant to china; you are simply importing western medicine and its profit motive ideas which seem to gloss over inexpensive solutions - I would be more interested if they took the oncology assistant to china and then let it learn all it could from the Chinese medicine doctors and then report this information back to influence western medicine.
