Cheers very much, and will make a nice item to add to hte collection, though have recently cleared out some bits from that, but once I fix the issues with the 4MT I'll see about getting it running bit more often!
Hi James. Nice model, pity about the running issues. By the way, did you notice that strangely (as it's a tender drive) the loco looked like it was arching under the loco body between the driving wheels. This might be why you are getting pick up issues?
Ta very much, and yeah the running is an issue, another comment mentioned to look at the valuegear (which I missed) so will be replacing that! Will also have a look at the loco while replacing the valuegear, but will do things in steps when I can, but tis a shame that I didn't notice the issues earlier and it's not running at it's best!
I have this loco, I got it second hand and it's a pretty bad runner for me on DC it definitely doesn't like the set track curves I've noticed that the driving wheels will lock up and jam after going around a curve. Shame really because it's a nice looking loco alongside my black 5, 3MT, Jinty and 4F.
Hmm, wondering if the back to back between the wheels might be the issue, I'll see about testing that with mine when working out how to sort it out. But it is a nice engine, though do wish that Farish released a new version sometime soon!
Hi James. Very good review. I have always steered clear of Farish tender driven locos. That is since I saw a Black Five on the Bachmann stand at Ally Pally running on their display track with all the driving wheels locked up. I believe it is the reason why Union Mills only made locos with inside valve gear. I hope you can get it sorted. Pete.
Cheers very much Pete, and generally I'll keep clear of Tender driven engines, though with the limited range of Southern engines till recently, I do have the odd few outside of UM, but hopefully I'll be able to get it running! First thing is remove the broken valvegear then see how well it runs without it then go from there!
Hm, didn't use to jam, possible might've been me but unfortunately have had it for a while and was from eBay, plus might just be easier to replace the valuegear. Will do what I can to fix it, but is something I'd rather have a go at myself!
It looks very nice. As other mentioned, it will go well with your collection It's the one that is run on weekends and special occasions. Good luck.

You are missing the reversing rods on both sides...the valve gear is shot..😢 its jamming up..send it back ..
