I haven't tried it yet, but I really want to, just for this reason! So far, my go-to "medicine for the soul" has been Tom Yum Goong. I'm super ready to transition to Pho!
I went to this place to get pho I ordered and there was a language barrier between me and the waiter. I took my pho home opened it up and saw that raw meat on top, I flipped out. I thought the waiter was being messy. I was watching the Chinese dumpling guy and saw he had raw meat. That’s when I learned they offer that. I’m glad I didn’t go back arguing about the raw meat but you live and learn.
I tried the cheat recipe the other night, it was absolutely delicious!!! thank you for being so generous with your knowledge of food, your recipes are truly outstanding, thank you!!! =D
Thank you for sharing Pho recipe to the rest of the world. Just one thing I need to add, we always roast the star anise and cinnamon and cloves because this will bring out the aromatic of Pho. 👍
My husband's craving for pho.. And he ask me to cook that.. But i don't know how to start with.. Your recipe come up in the right time.. Thank you so so much 😍😍
I am Thai who lives in Australia. Thank you for such a wonderful recipes in your channel. I love watching your videos. It is so inspiring and easy to make. Btw, I am not a good cook but instead a big eater😂.
I'm Vietnamese, living in Vietnam, and this bowl of Phở already looks like it came from a famous local Phở restaurant. Excellent job! And honestly this is not so much ''cheated'' at all, most Phở restaurantshere would use the cheated way to prepare Phở, only really traditional and legit vintage Phở restaurants would do it the classic way.
I have pumpkin bread in the oven for Thanksgiving; it smells wonderful, but here I sit, drooling over pho! Maybe next week after all the leftovers are gone..... Thank you for another amazing recipe, Marion!
Yum 😋 You are my favorite cook to watch! It just makes me so happy hearing you laugh and see how much you enjoy cooking too. I cook my noodles in the broth, either directly in the broth I make. Or If don’t want noodle bits bopping around in the broth when I serve it (or I wanna freeze some of it to use later) I take out some of the broth in to a different pot for cooking the noodles. Noodles cooked broth get a much more complex flavor and I feel that noodles cooked in water tends to thin out the soup. Just some tips to others that feel like I do.
I've been slowly building my courage to make this. My lockdown obsession has been Asian food which is completely out of my comfort/culture zone. First I check "the Joy" (cookbook) and then I'll look to see if Marion's cooked it.
Everything is ok but Vietnamese people never use soy sauce for Pho. If you eat Pho in Vietnam, the broth is mostly clear and nerver have dark brown color as we never use soy sauce. It is just some information about traditional way to cook pho, but you can add soy sauce if you like it, your food your choice.
Noooo! I've banned myself from watching your videos whilst my kitchen is being renovated and i can't cook... but i couldn't resist Pho! Currently crying into my Pot noodle. 😭😭
@@SchwarzeWitwe2 Pot noodles are actually a brand of instant noodles we have in Britain. They are your typical 'add water and wait' noodles but are worlds away from asian instant noodles. They are a bit more like soupy pasta. Legendary rubbish student food at its most glorious 😂 I might see if i can locate a pho instant noodle though because I would love to give it a go!
For improvement to that gorgeous classic broth, rock sugar could be a more subtle alternative to plain white sugar. You could add peppercorns into your broth too. That would give it more depth and flavour :)
I don't know why I'm from the South of Vietnam but not really fall in love with Phở, even it's such a worldwide good dish. My favourite things are broken rice with grilled pork chop/ belly and chicken glass noodles. 😂
Old school pho....it was cooking for more then 12hrs...use to do it over night....never changed the water, drain anything, other then scooping out the scum, boy times have changed!
It's interesting to see everyone has their own version of pho. To me it's quite tricky to get it done, so Bún bò Huế is always my preference whenever I want a beefy easy fast noodle
Have fun
So, there's beef, chicken and vegetable pho...but I just made a turkey pho with my leftover carcass from Thanksgiving. Used all the seasonings and everything, just substituted turkey for beef/chicken and it's fantastic.
Marion, your videographer is so good and does your recipes justice. Also, there's no way I'm roasting a whole ginger in Australia haha, not when it's priced at $49.99 a kilo!! Maybe in Thailand where you are definitely
Oh my gawd, What kind of ginger that sells 50bucks per kilogram, in Australia 0.0 Pardon me but that seller might be trying to pull a fast one on ya. Ginger is a versatile and hardy herb to grow very easily. Just get a medium-sized fresh rhizome... dump it in potting soil and regular watering and it grows very well.
@@roflcopterme ua-cam.com/video/ukEn3T8B8to/v-deo.html I don't know which part of Aussie country that sells that high. I know it is a pricey herb ( 25 to 30 AUD at most) but last time i stayed in Canberra, I never seen it sell that high. And its not easy to get ginger there too. Demand maybe?
Hi Marion! I watch almost all of your videos to learn about balancing flavour. I'm pescatarian and have a few great recipes from you. I wonder if you could do something vege beyond tofu and not side-dishey that's full of spice and the wow factor.
Yes, off course! I’m a Vietnamese busy mom, I come home from work pretty late but still managed to cook Pho for my kids . You just have to boil the bones first with a lots of salt and white vinegar. Then clean it well under running water. Then pop every ingredients according to Marion to the instant pot. Put it on pressure cook for 20-25 minutes. It’s fast and till do the job. * Just a head up, the broth will have a little darker shade than when you are shimmering it for hours on the stove.
I love pho! I've only made pho ga because it's much easier for me to make! But I was always wondering if you have ever tried making any Mexican dishes with a twist of again?? I would love to see
Since all the char is getting peeled off anyway, would simply microwaving the whole onion and ginger be a decent replacement method? I don't have a gas stove, though I could use the grill function in my oven instead, I suppose. It just seems like the charring over direct flame wouldn't really impart *that* much char/smoke flavour anyway, since the outer layer is being scraped off...
Thanks for this Marion! how do you keep reading our minds? lol not sure how many were like me - i jumped straight to the CHEAT version. Cooking this tonight!
You know you are addicted when you say you need that Pho hit lol. This is very common amongst Vietnamese is that Pho is so addictive that many people cannot functuon without having at least a bowl per week.
I never understood what the point of burning the vegetables is if you're going to cut off the burnt part. Isn't the part underneath basically just steamed/boiled in it's own moisture?
Pho isn’t food it’s medicine for the soul, thank you for this!
