I love the Ultimate comics, it’s what got me started reading they used to include sample comics with T-shirt’s when I was like 9-10...Still have the entire Ultimate Universe run...I love how important it was to Secret Wars and how Miles and the Maker are officially in the 616
Ultimates was what actually got me to move over from DC comics to Marvel. after this, I devoured Avengers Disassembled, New Avengers, House of M, Civil War, etc. (2nd golden age of Marvel)...just as Geoff Johns ruining DC comics (IMO)
that bryan hitch art is amazing, i think i'll be picking up the reprint when it comes out
My first omnibus, I still have it to this day. I'm definitely getting the reprint. Hawkeye is a badass, so is Captain America. The ultimates made me a fan of both Cap and Hawkeye, this was before the first Avengers movie. The Avengers were never popular or big in the 90s as the X-Men but this run made me take notice of the Avengers.
The ultimate thor trade is rly good.

Remember how long it took Hitch to complete the issues, mustve taken 4 years to complete both arcs, good times haha
Also for some reason i ended up with i think 4 copies of issue 1 with one of them signed by Millar
What's up gem,I have the complete collection in the paperback editons but the omnibus editon looks freaking awesome!. i liked this omnibus review and is actually seeing the omnibus collection for the very first time so i enjoyed and appreciated this video.!
Great review. I loved the Ultimate universe when I was younger. Probably pick up that reprint.

I think it's the Rage of Ultron OGN that has my favourite description of Hank Pym. 'imagine if self doubt was a person'. Scathing.

An issue of the first Ultimates and Ultimate Spidey were the first floppies I bought in over a decade. Bam, off to the races again.
Hank Pym is not abusive in the original comics he hit her once during his mental breakdown. Spider man did the exact same thing in the 90s no reason do dislike the character (in my opinion) he is great especially in the avengers west coast comics

The Hank Pym 616 abusive persona wasn't even supposed to be canon. According to Jim Shooter, the artist mistook it as a backhand when it was supposed to be an accidental hit.
This could be my favorite Marvel omnibus. I honestly mean that!

I enjoyed this run. Sold my TPBs to get the omnibus reprint. I’d also recommend Cataclysm which combines these Ultimates Avengers and our Avengers to battle Galactus. Thanks for the video!

Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men by Mark Millar were really the last comic runs I read back in the day. Everything since featuring edgy superheroes has felt derivative to me so that's why I stick to the classics.
Those rnt rly classics lol, and early ultimate comics are the edgiest things ever.

I never read anything from the Ultimate Universe except for every Miles Morales issues. The only thing I want to read is the whole Spider-Man (Peter) run but man it's like 150 issues!
ultimate spider-man peter and miles feel like regular spider-man....the ultimates feel very different from the avengers though
The ultimate Peter Parker run is 160 issue, and worth every single page! It's incredible, he's my favourite version of Spider-Man by a long shot 🕷️

I just finished the Ultimates and although I had my criticisms I ended up thoroughly enjoying the read. I really had to keep telling myself “this is not my Cap” and “this is not my Bruce” or”Hank Pym” lol But I had a good time reading it

Yes but ultimates 1&2 and canon so to speak? Ultimates 3 was unrelated and its own story. I didn't finish Ultimate avengers it was about vampires and got weird lol

Awesome story, huge Millar fan, i don't think it was dated an i consider it the best avengers story ever.
Nice video, I have mixed feelings about the ultimate universe but this run is good, as well as Spider-man. I think I hate Hank Pym and Iron man the most.

Having met Mark Millar and having had an extended conversation with him, I hate when people pronounce his last name "Mill-R." It's Miller asked the man myself lol
I'll definitely pick up the reprint of this when it comes out for the art alone, but the story, well, I'm not so sure I'll like it, but I'll give it a read. Marvel made two animated movies out of this run around 2007 or 2008. I own them both and they're not bad, for animated movies. In those movies, I believe the team is called the Avengers and not the Ultimates, but this is definitely the story used for the movies.
This is on my list --- I don't know what to do now. :/

Talking about name dropping, I remember in the first volume Betty Ross
is crapping all over Bruce and she mentions she's going out with Freddy Prinze Junior. I still don't get why this is an omni without having volume 3. Makes absolutely no sense to me.
I know this is a long shot but when you are reviewing these omnis is there any chance you could link to them on in stock trades? Cause i want them but can only end up finding about 1/2 of them when i search lol

The only thing that makes me hesitate on this is the exclusion of Ultimates 3.
I don't think Ultimates 3 is even worth including in the omnibus because the writing in Ultimates 3 sucks ass. Unlike Ultimates 1 and 2, Ultimates 3 is NOT EVEN COHERENT to the prequels which is why I think they excluded it in the omnibus.
Second, the tone of Ultimates 3 is not coherent with the previous two books. It is darker and violent with a lot of needless swearing. They also butchered characters such as Hawkeye who threatened to shoot the Wasp if she calls him Clint. Thor also seems to lose what makes him "Ultimate" and looks more similar to his Earth 616 counterpart.
Characters such as Valkyrie and Black Panther join the Ultimates without explanation and villains appear left and right whereas Ultimates 1 and 2 have villains that were built up throughout the issues.
Also, just a short jab, Hulk and Nick Fury, two of the most important Ultimates characters, didn't appear in Ultimates 3.
The ultimates was a FANTASTIC book til jeph leob came along and messed it up. It provided one of the funniest lines I've read in a comic (you guess which one). I've got the two hardcovers, will probably upgrade to the omni when it comes out.

I have the first Ultimates run as part of a HC series I'm buying. I was very put off by the depictions of Captain America and The Hulk. Cap in particular is just a jingoistic, gung-ho bully. Hulk is just sick.

They were meaner and edgier. Hawkeye was a beast. Black Widow was really cold. Pretty cool. Not a big Nick Fury fan
I forgot how "to the extreme" Millar was/is....he is hit or miss. Great ideas but he needs to be tempered down. See Kick Ass, Authority, Wanted, etc.
To be honest i loved the Ultimate Avengers. At a point the Avengers over the years got abit boring to me. Teams like FF4 and X-Men had way more interesting storylines than the Avengers. The two story arcs that really drew my interest for them were Secret Empire, Civil War 1, and The Ultimate series. Sometimes you need to switch it up and add spice to these characters and storylines for more interest and less stale
hey gem i know marvel is the hot stuff right now but come on give DC some love on those recent reads, that last knight on earth run is really good, heroes in crisis as well, or the calsic ones like kingdom come and justice, idk

From here I'd skip to Ultimate Avengers, it's the return of Millar to Ultimates and I thought just as good as this. Takes place after Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum which y'know please skip for your own mental health 😂. Great review.

I love Ultimates 1 and 2! Shame just about everything that came out after sucked!
This take on Captain America makes it hard for him to find a lady. Someone his age is too...well... old. Someone young would just be too different for them to be compatible. It is more acceptable than how he found ladys in the MCU where he double dipped in to two different generations of the same gene pool 😱. In relation to Tony Stark dating all these famous ladys I wonder if he would be interested in Scarlet Johansson 😜.
Was not a fan of this run. Although thought provoking just didn’t like seeing the personalities as they were displayed. Similar to the superheroes of The Boys. Mark Millar never fails to point out the failures of believing in “heroes”.

How come you only just read this run. All them omnibus and you probably have,not read them. I used to think you had something about you. Then you had TVo on and said all that bullshit about what was coming to the MCU. Get ghost ridder read by Jason Aaron.
