Wow, beautiful job! I'm about to refinish a farm sink and two smaller bathroom sinks. Would the Klean Strip Muric Acid work as a chemical etcher? And the Rustoleum tub and tile refinisher?
I'm a refinish technician for a company with a few locations across the US. I'm interested in some other products outside of the company blended materials I'm using. I'm seeing some in this video are there any others you'd recommend?
Please you needed to leave a list of the products you used on it. Could not hear as there was a lot of noise in back ground. Not much help, still don't know what paint to use.
What you need: Acid etcher Brillo pad Water from the hose 😋 Fiberglass filler Acrylic filler Orbital sander (probs 200 grit?) Epoxy primer coat White Awlgrip Urethane (that’s mf’ing boat paint, $110 a gallon)

@@arncj18 I resurface tubs among the many other things I do for work, and among all the products I've used, I recommend for DIYers to get some ceramic and metal prep acid to wash their sink or tub, brillo pad and or sand paper to help cut soap scum and mineral build up helping the acid work it's way through everything. Rinse and repeat once more. Spray preferably 2 layers of adhesion promoter in cross hatch pattern on the work surface, let dry and apply rust-oleum appliance paint or homax tub and tile paint, preferably sprayed on with an HVLP sprayer (can probably be rented fairly cheap, but cheap air compressor ran HVLP spray guns can also be used with cheap compressors somewhat well) but can also be brushed and rolled on. Lacquer thinner can be added to either paint for spraying or to make rolling or brushing a little easier Let dry for 24 hours before use Quick edit, if bondo repairs had to be made I would definitely recommend priming over spots with some kind of aerosol primer before applying adhesion promoter
Mark Von Try more like over $300/Gallon of the AwlGrip paint. I just bout a gallon a couple of months ago and with a discount it was over $300.00. That's not including the converter and reducer etc..
Sir, Please invest in a hydraulic lift table. Save your back🖖🏼😎 Also, your repair, refurbish, porcelain sink video is hands down the best I’ve come across😝
I recovered a cast iron sink from a house that had burnt. The porcelain melted and now in very bad condition. Any ideas on how to remove the porcelain or smoothie out suitable to resurface?
Wow, Never heard of that one... The one time that I had one where the porcelain was truly shot... I had it sandblasted off, then epoxy primed the bare metal, then coated the whole thing with Awlgrip Fairing Compound (for boats) turned out great, but a ton of work.
I couldn't really hear the name of the product either but I think it is Awl Grip Epoxy Primer. The company logo looks the same as the one in the video.
I have a sink that I would like to refinish Where do I find that liquid acid? Also, I have an old Dutch oven that belonged to my Great Grandmother. Could I use these kinds of products on that old pot?
It's not "just painted." He used a special epoxy paint that is suitable for this type of application. Actually he used a superior product that is typically used for airplanes and boats. He mentioned that in the video.
Correct, it is paint, (but not normal paint) the industry has adopted the term reglazing. Re-porcelaining I think is what you're referring to. However, I did recently hear of a company in (South Carolina?) that will reporcelain but its hideously expensive, I have been told.@@billmercer1229
The acrylic he used is Evercoat brand Everglaze and spot putty
correct,

So this is just a high grade epoxy paint as opposed to an actual porcelain finish, correct?

We use Awlgrip , Not a DIY product.
I'm the kinda guy who likes to do the work, not watch work. But I could watch this all day, that's a talent and you sir are an artist!
You Jon are an artist. You make it look so easy and we all know its not. Thank you for sharing.
What you need:
Acid etcher
Brillo pad
Water from the hose 😋
Fiberglass filler
Acrylic filler
Orbital sander (probs 200 grit?)
Epoxy primer coat
White Awlgrip Urethane (that’s mf’ing boat paint, $110 a gallon)
i think they baked or heated the paint on these back in the 20's factories that's why they last hundred years
Wow, Where are you getting Awlgrip for $110.00 per gallon... I want some:)
Thanks for watching,
Jon
Can't hear what you're saying.....can't see name of coating.
what grit or sandpaper were you using with the rotary sander?
80, 120, 220
Nice job. Interesting medley of Walzing maltilda and the band from Gundagai playing in the background.
Great catch!!! You ARE a fan!
Can you list the products you use by name?
Awlgrip, Not DIY Product.

@@markvon9727 i assume urethane is 2 part, i understand this is high grade stuff, but isn't ekopel decent also?
@@arncj18 Hey CJ. To be fair, I've never used ekopel. I was just listing all the stuff the guy in the video used

What kind of acid did you to etch ?
Jon, I have a “Hoosier style” cabinet with porcelain top. I would prefer to send it out to a professional. May I hire you?
We can do that, I'm in Grandville, Michigan.
Sorry for the late reply, Just figuring out how to use UA-cam replies...
Jon
This is awesome. Do you still do this work? I would love to know all of the products you use. I couldn't hear all of them very well.
I use U.S. Paints products. 545 Epoxy Primer in white, Awlcraft F8020 Off White Topcoat.
@@durafinishinc.2577 Thank you!
I’m so happy that people are saving these. They are so awesome.
Where are you located?
Grandville, Michigan

Your volume us poor!
Great job!
The fillers sure look like bondo and lacquer putty.

Interested in what product you use for topcoat.
Awlcraft Acrylic Urethane
I enjoyed watching the process and transformation. Could you list the products you used?
Wish I can hear you 😟
It sucks I can't just do it at home... Not, saying what you did... Thank you
i think they baked or heated the paint on these back in the 20's factories that's why they last hundred years
correct
How would I find a shop like yours in Nashville?
Can you add the list of products used? I can't hear very well so didn't catch what he said he used.
What was that chemical stuff you used? It looked great after that!!

That's my question too. What acid is that?
The etch is a "professional Use" product from a company called NAPCO out of Chicago, IL
I wouldn't use it on a cooking pot.
Where are you located. I an old sink that is identical to the one in your video that I need restored.
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Is the topcoat a porcelain product?
what's the reducer?
Great job..
Good job
Love the wide shallow basin
what is the name of the acrylic filler? thanks in advance
Evercoat everglaze and spot putty
Evercoat, but 3M makes one, also Rustolium and others... It's automotive body spot filler.
Wonderful job. What state are you in
Grandville, Michigan
What grit sand paper are you using?
80, 120, 220.
Sometimes as low as 400...
that is cheating - it is just painted - how will it stand boiling water???

It looks like a quality job no doubt about that , but it’s not “reglazing “. No one does that .
No problem.

Video was very good. Audio was terrible. I couldn't here very much information because you had the fans going--too loud.
That is the negative part of my amateur videos.
Sorry,
Jon

Maybe try a wireless mic clipped to your collar,…
Fantastic looking finished product…
What acid did you use? I have Oxalic Acid but I'm not sure if that's the kind that was used in the video.
Hydrofluoric Acid, (a reduced version, not straight)
@@durafinishinc.2577 where can I get the acid
