Yes I did. But ever since I got my Eos 2000d kit I didnt touch my phone' camera. Thx again for all these videos. Especially the tutorial about night photos.
Nice to see a genuine chap who knows his stuff and delivers it in a very clear and understandable way. Best of all though, no waffling on about pointless chit-chat.
This video will change how I take photos for the rest of my life!! I'm PO'd that I screwed up so many pictures of my daughter when I could have just adjusted the dang exposure! And the smart phone tip is fantastic! Thank you so much!!
I just started watching your channel regularly. It is a good find for me. I appreciate your understandable explanations of how the cameras work. I just bought a Canon Rebel 300D for a very nice price on eBay. Old technology for sure but quality seems to be there. I am working on getting my old Canon FTB film camera working again. I really enjoyed it back in the day. Getting back to photography. Anyway, thanks for your videos.
I love your videos and explanations, Paul. Extremely helpful to those who are getting started and also those who want to expand their skills with digital photography. When explaining exposure compensation, you do state that with turning the dial to the + or - side, the camera makes some changes. However, it would be helpful for beginners to learn how that is affecting the aperture or shutter speed or both. So although one might be getting the desired exposure, the result might not be the desired one. For example, to increase exposure, the camera might decrease the shutter speed and result in a blurry picture. Or it might change the aperture (if the range is available) and will change the depth of field. And different brands will handle it differently, I assume. So it will be helpful to have a video guiding viewers to keep an eye out for the changes in the aperture and shutter speed and the alternatives or how to fine tune the outcome of exposure compensation. That way, people can learn about these settings from each exposure.
Great advice and delivery, made it really palpable also, as that tip at the end been doing that on my iPhone and until seeing your video didn't think to do it on my DSLR
Thanks a ton.. wat a super tutorial!! Helped me as a total beginner to get going forward by leaps... kudos to you Sir!! Please post more videos and take us steps ahead...
Can't thank you enough coz you were able to explain exposure compensation as clear as possible not like the other guy in facebook who told me to use auto coz I'm not professional thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice cool tips about Exposure compensation. Mostly I slightly under expose my images by 2/3 stops. Since it is easy to recover shadow details, but recovering highlight details using LR are not easy. Especially when we shoot bright sky with dramatic clouds. Wonderful video. Thanks for making this video for us. Once again many thanks.
thanks again Paul. voting for the slightly under exposed shots. stuck about for the Bonus Tip and it does work on my Android phone. I didn't know that thanks. I normally use the "Proffessional" mode on the camera which gives me control of compensation, ISO, Shutter White Balance and focus. hehe - I don't like the ISO bouncing up and down either. cheers
Hi Paul, I liked the examples with the light exposure and definitely preferred the slightly over exposed photos. Thanks for the video and also the bonus tip with the smart phone! Nice!
I will try your tip n my android phone. Thanks for all your videos. I got a NIKON D3500 for Christmas. I also have a canon that I used a lot with no idea about all the functions so all your videos have been very useful. Thanks.
Dear Mr. Farris, today, and for the first time, I fell in love with the P-mode in my camera thanks to your ability to teach the compensation feature perfectly… Thank you!
Hi Paul. I am Leon Brill from Cape Town, South Africa. Thank you out of my heart for your videos. You got me out op Auto (bland) mode. I am focusing on Manual mode. I prefer the slight over exposed version in this video.
Hi Paul. I recently discovered your channel and have been hopping around your back catalogue of videos, to brush up on my knowledge and techniques. Love your no-nonsense explanations and am really grateful that you cover both Canon and Nikon setups. Keep 'em coming mate !
Paul, my Canon cameras (T-3/1100D and 7D Mark II), in Manual mode with Auto ISO permit me to bracket exposure, but not to employ exposure compensation. Why would that be? Many thanks to my favorite photography tutor!
Great tutorial and kudos!! I know this was a beginners guide to Exposure Compensation but can you do one, if you haven't already, on Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) - when to enable / use and when not assuming the digital camera has the feature int he base case.. Thx and keep up the excellent work.
Nice video - I'll watch and comment on your earlier video later :D I slightly like the underexposed picture better, mainly the sky - not so much the water to be honest 😊 On the Huawei P30 pro were also able to pick iso, change focus settings and shutter speed 😋 But you're probably also able to do that on your/some iphones. Again neat video - I myself mainly rely on fixing stuff in post edit but might have to start playing with the meter a bit more. Little question: Do you ever use the range finder option? 😊
Thanks for the info, Great help for me , just started learning photography as a Hobby , I want to take great photos so with your help going from shooting in Auto to Manual Mode it seems a little complicated with iso shutter speed and F/Stop, now I am really confused........
Hi I don’t have a plus/ minus button on the back of my canon camera so I have to go into menu to change it but now when I go into menu it won’t change for me! Any suggestions to sort this please? I find your videos very informative by the way. Thank you. Sharon
good lesson. Thanks, I have Canon 1300D. I like to explore much in Manual mode but in manual mode i can not change Exposure Compensation. It is grey out why?
Exposure compensation is not available in Manual because you can do it yourself, changing the shutter / aperture or ISO is effectively doing the same thing.
Not exactly - exposure compensation adjusts the exposure by making adjustments to the cameras settings - this could be the shutter, aperture or ISO depending on which mode you are using.
I bought a Canon Rebel T7 and when I go to Manuel mode for some reason I can not control the exposure meter and when I do I have two lines going toward under/over exposure. The exposure meter works fine in other modes
By any chance, does Exposure compensation affects shutter speed in auto iso under aperture priority? Because, I have seen that with (+)ve compensation, shutter speed goes down below the minimum shutter speed set in auto iso, while it goes up in case of (-)ve compensation!!
The d3400 doesn't have it so I suspect the d3500 doesn't either. By adjusting it yourself/ourselves we're more in control and learn more instead of relying on automated camera options 😊 Same goes for HDR bracketing - not an option on these "lower end" models 😋
not bad great for a bigginer I would leave the bonus out since you were wrong on that the samsung S9+ does not have that feature it doesn't need it Thanks anyways
I'd vote for overexposed. Though I'm probably one of the few that don't like taking pictures with my phone. I much prefer the solid feeling of holding a camera.
Who stuck around to the end of the video for the bonus tip?
Yip sure did!
Yes I did. But ever since I got my Eos 2000d kit I didnt touch my phone' camera. Thx again for all these videos. Especially the tutorial about night photos.
I did watched it all the way at the end. Great INFO
Mee
Sure did! Great tip! Even if I don't use my phone that much for photos.
Nice to see a genuine chap who knows his stuff and delivers it in a very clear and understandable way. Best of all though, no waffling on about pointless chit-chat.
the third one paul thumbs up every time
Great info. I learnt so much. Thanks.
Very welcome!
What I really enjoy about your videos, is the fact you use both a Cannon and a Nikon, and show them both, makes things really nice and easy
Thanks Paul, I may also be featuring Sony and Fujifilm cameras as well soon as they are becoming increasingly popular. Thanks for watching.
Man i LOVE that friendly smile before a transition. Keep it up! Just found you and i'm already subscribed...
Thanks again, Paul.
Somehow I liked the overexposed pictures a little bit better...
hi Paul Great lesson and tips I prefer the slighty overexposed image
I love watching you. As I can't afford classes. You have helped me understand the camera so much better. Thankyou 😊😊
This video will change how I take photos for the rest of my life!! I'm PO'd that I screwed up so many pictures of my daughter when I could have just adjusted the dang exposure! And the smart phone tip is fantastic! Thank you so much!!

Great video. Very helpful. Thanks. Personally, I preferred the image using the Automatic setting. Also, great tip about exposure on my iPhone.

Dear Mr. Farris, today, and for the first time, I fell in love with the P-mode in my camera thanks to your ability to teach the compensation feature perfectly… Thank you!

Hi Paul, thanks for the tips. I would prefer to go a little over exposed...

What's the difference between exposure compensation and ISO
Can you please tell us how to use depth of field button in canon proper way. D600
Thanks
how do you know to under or over expose the photo or change the IOS/Appature setting thanks good videos.
Hello..I’m enjoy very your beautiful video very much:)
Can you please do a video on canon eos 77D :). Please thank you.
Hi Paul for me I love the under exposed shots they look moody
Dose exposure. Compensation work in Manual. Mode Cannon. 5dmark 111
good lesson.
@@photogenius Could you please make tutorial on Bounce flash?
Hi Paul rookie question but is the exposure compensation the same as iso ?
Not exactly - exposure compensation adjusts the exposure by making adjustments to the cameras settings - this could be the shutter, aperture or ISO depending on which mode you are using.
Liked the overexposed picture.
Thanks for the feedback.
I bought a Canon Rebel T7 and when I go to Manuel mode for some reason I can not control the exposure meter and when I do I have two lines going toward under/over exposure. The exposure meter works fine in other modes
Hi I have a nikon d300s and the compensation icon keeps flashing.after I take a photo it flashes error? Do you have any idea about that?thanks mal
👍👍
👍👍
Hey!
I am using 4000d so i want to ask which lens is best for portrait fir 4000d
I did, I never knew I could do that on an IPhone.
Can I use Exposure compensation if I don't have ND filters and want longer exposure in daylight?
Sir, Which you would prefer to buy , Nikon D5600 or Fujifilm xt100 with kit lense
is it true that exposure compensation will not be available when you use Manual mode? thank you
By any chance, does Exposure compensation affects shutter speed in auto iso under aperture priority? Because, I have seen that with (+)ve compensation, shutter speed goes down below the minimum shutter speed set in auto iso, while it goes up in case of (-)ve compensation!!
She’s right mate
Which app do you use for photos editing
I mostly edit using Lightroom - this video may be of interest to you : ua-cam.com/video/fOaDvaB9PfQ/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching!
6:30 I actually prefer the first photo what the camera recommended.
If I overexpose the image using Exposure Compensation - does it introduce grains (like increasing ISO) ?
Why not use Auto Exposure Bracketing... AEB?
The d3400 doesn't have it so I suspect the d3500 doesn't either.
By adjusting it yourself/ourselves we're more in control and learn more instead of relying on automated camera options 😊
Same goes for HDR bracketing - not an option on these "lower end" models 😋
I prefer the over exposed picture.
not bad great for a bigginer I would leave the bonus out since you were wrong on that the samsung S9+ does not have that feature it doesn't need it Thanks anyways
I prefer the under exposed, not so washed out.
The ones under expoure I like it more
Thanks for your feedback and for watching my video.
If a photo is too dark or too light, why don’t you just change the aperture or shutter speed?
Why bother with Exposure Compensation? I don’t get it.
I'd vote for overexposed. Though I'm probably one of the few that don't like taking pictures with my phone. I much prefer the solid feeling of holding a camera.
Then over exposure is much better
The over exposed photo looks better.
for me under expose. 🌝🙂
thanks for the feedback.
Stuck to the end...!
