The Origin of the Universe
On the authority of Imran bin Husayn, he said: I was with the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - when a group of people from Banu Tamim came to him, so he said: (Accept the good news, O Banu Tamim. They said: You have given us good news, so give us. Then some people from Yemen entered, so he said: Accept the good news, O people of Yemen, since Banu Tamim did not accept it. They said: We accept it. We came to you to learn about the religion, and to ask you about the beginning of this matter, what was it? He said: God was and there was nothing before Him, and His Throne was over the water, then He created the heavens and the earth, and He wrote everything in the Remembrance) Narrated by Al-Bukhari.
The overall meaning:
It was the custom of the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - in his gatherings to teach his companions, especially those who had recently entered Islam, or those who had come to him from distant lands. When a delegation from Banu Tamim came to him, he - may God bless him and grant him peace - gave them good news of what God had prepared for the righteous, and said to them: Accept the good news, out of his desire that they would ask him about the beginning of this world, how did He begin its creation? However, they desired immediate giving and looked forward to material things, so the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - turned away from them and turned to the delegation of the people of Yemen and said to them: Accept the good news, O people of Yemen, since Banu Tamim did not accept it, so they accepted it, and asked him about the beginning of this matter, that is, the beginning of this world and its origin, so he - may God bless him and grant him peace - informed them that God is the Creator of this universe, and that God existed and nothing before Him, and that He created existence from nothingness, and that He began the creation of the heavens and the earth, and His throne was on the water, and he - may God bless him and grant him peace - did not clarify the beginning of the creation of the throne or the creation of the water because the questioners intended to ask about the beginning of the creation of this world and not the absolute creation and its type. He - may God bless him and grant him peace - explained that everything related to this world was written by God in a book with Him.
Doctrinal benefits:
1- That God is the first before whom there is nothing.
2- That everything other than God is created and exists from nothingness.
3- That the throne and the water were created before the creation of the heavens and the earth.
4- That God does not need the throne, but rather the throne and everything below it need it.
5- Proving the attribute of creation for Him, glory be to Him, and His creation of a thing is its bringing it into existence from nothingness.
6- Belief in destiny, and that God has written His knowledge of what was and what will be in a book with Him.
