    The "reputable" part needs clarifying. Just bc someone isn't on YT or has 1000 animals, doesn't mean they're not a reputable breeder. Plenty of us on a small scale with tons of experience and know what we're doing. I would say to not just look at "who's got the biggest name out there" but look at the sellers reviews from the community.

      While some are really beautiful- I’m not a fan of 4+ gene snakes - let alone adding on het or possible het. It is so confusing and takes so many years to prove out.

    • @camelcityreptiles
      @camelcityreptiles 2 роки тому +5

      @@TJHutchExotics not necessarily.. you can potentially prove a het male in one year. Females take 2-3yr before you can but it's worth the wait if it's going to be something amazing. I just hatched some 4-5 gene animals that are beautiful. Took me a few days to ID them due to 2 genes in the pairing. Granted, there are some amazing 3 gene animals out there but as a breeder you strive to create what's not been done, to push the envelope. It's fun putting powerhouse animals together and seeing the results.

    “The human response” that justin, is a very honest thing to say!
    And its understandable, if you work so hard on a project, literally for years, as soon as you see something that is something like, then naturally we are going the jump the gun and say that snake is something its not.
    Its great to see a top breeder acknowledging that fact as this is something the more intermediate level breeder will not even consider. 👌🏼

They’ve all eaten multiple times n doing amazing. Definitely a head scratcher on what they are lol. Hasn’t had a clutch since 19’ we got er from the second owner that never paired her. It is so confusing and the entire enormity of the Royal Python world is crazy. I started to research the species when I began including them in my behavior studies and it was overwhelming. I am still overwhelmed by the numbers produced and by what the morphs are. Some publications don’t actually describe what the morph looks like, just who discovered it or first reproduced it. It is really helpful to have the color and pattern described so that if there wasn’t a photo you could still visualize it. Your videos are some of the most informative.

    Yes, feeling this right now. I produced a lot of new combos this year from 5-7 gene pairings and some are so subtle it can be hard to tell if there is another gene or just some variation with the same. Some I can't find any reference for so I am left to make the best determination based on what I know to be there, and then there are the ones that don't make sense from the known genes and seem like something else is in play. I'm trying so hard to be accurate, but it can be so tough once you get 4-5+ genes.

    THANK YOU for the honesty and clarity. I would live a follow up on the subject that goes over the mutations. There are so many names for things now that are just the same mutation. One might just be a “darker” version. A lot of it seems like some BS…..

    • @jpsfish5966
      @jpsfish5966 2 роки тому

      @@KINOVAReptiles thanks for the reply! I’m more referring to the Coral Glow vs Banana type of naming conventions. Though I think CG should be it’s own mutation as Bananas have more of that speckling. Maybe more of a things to look out for. I believe some sellers try to “church” things up if you will and might use a different name for a mutation to make it sound better.
      This happens in the fish keeping hobby all the time. Someone will say “this is the technicolor triple spotted guppy so it’s $40 for a pair” or something like that, when really it’s just a common pattern.

    You are right; once you start pairing multi-gene snakes it's not necessarily easy for anyone to identify the results. I do think it will be cool for some geneticist to develop a test to prove snakes out, and hope that they eventually make a home test that's inexpensive enough for people to test all their babies.
