I farm out here in west Texas and I just gotta say, thank you for being an advocate for agriculture. So many folks think farmers are sneaky and are trying to feed them “poisonous GMSs” you give some transparency to how we actually work and what we do. Doin good work my man
I'm not a farmer . My dad was a farmer he worked on prunes and honey dew melons. My grandpa was a rancher cattle and hogs. So ranching / farming is in my blood. I love the machinery and fixing problems. I'm a mechanic. Good family show lots of information.
You hit the nail on the head when you said "driving threw water is safer"... as an experienced driver myself, that is so true in every way. Never been stuck in standing water. Been stuck many times in just mud.
I am a farmer, my grandpa owns a dairy farm and my other grandpa has a small hay business. I'd like to take over that hay business and combine grain as well. You have inspired me with all your cool videos to reach my goal. My operation will be no where near your size, but I love the farm life. You are the best actor out there on youtube, keep making videos and I'm ready to watch the next one.
Small farmer from south western Ontario, Canada. Enjoy watching the big equipment and interesting to see real time conditions in other parts of the US. Keep it up!
Morning zake iam not a farmer but I really like watching your you tube films I like seeing your kids and wife hope they grow up farming wish you all the luck butch
You had me pumped up like getting ready for a football game at the beginning of the video. Man I was pumped for harvest! Press ON! Blessings and a safe harvest.
Hey Zach! In my experience off-roading, and from what I’ve been told by other off-roaders, when you drive through the water it helps to clean out the treads of your tires so you continue getting traction. Also, the standing water means the consistency of the mud isn’t as thick (like soup) where as regular mud is much thicker (like play-dough) and will get stuck into the treads of your tires, essentially turning them into racing slicks.
Water will stand on a hard pan. The pan will support the machine too. Rip it deep and it will be a mud hole next year. lol. I have a couple fields like that.
I was watching random videos of people using drones on a farm and somehow stumbled across this channel now I CAN'T STOP WATCHING! lol. Makes we want to hop in the van and come visit/meet this millennial farmer and let my kiddos ride in the combine.
Sure glad harvest is here for you. Thanks for keeping Dad and Jim in . Farming is so addictive to watch. Mrs. Bernard is doing an Awsome job this year as well also keeping here family in Video. Your Fan George Deltaville Va
Just listened to the most recent podcast. I'm on the boat of going full Rogan and don't put a time limit on. If the conversation is carrying I'll listen all day!
The secret to flow over water is .Because there is so much water the soil can t be get weak. The water helps to stabelizing the ground it wan t get a side. When there is mud with water there is not enough you push the water away and you will sink in I am sorry i hope i get it explaind a little bit.. I am from Northwest Germany. I love your channel
Hey Zack, the reason standing water gets you stuck a lot less than mud is because the ground is firm enough that the water cant sink into it meaning it is also a lot firmer for the tires to grip, as apposed to mud where the water is soaking into the loose(er) ground meaning the tires are also going to sink and churn up the ground more. :)
Watching you struggle in these wet conditions makes me feel glad that’s I’m not farming anymore BUT talking about harvesting makes me wish i was still farming. I sure hope that conditions improve for all of you trying to harvest your crops.
Great stuff!! Have been waiting in agony to see this year's harvest videos. Good luck and all of the best for the harvest time. Stay safe and keep 'em going Zach. Greetings from South Africa.
He man, just wanted to say, you are amazing at what you do and you always explain things so clearly whenever you describe something to your fans, and you also inspire me to make the decision that when i grow up i will be a farmer/work for a farm,Keep up thee great work👌👍
No school No work Saw a video of my friend rolling his Can Am (everything and everybody is okay) Harvest 2019 and had a good lunch. Today is a good day
When u drive throu water instead of just mud, tyres remain clean and u dont get mud stuck to them. Thats why it’s safer... at least thats how it works for us down here in Argentina! Haha! Great videos, Zack.
i have learnt a lot about farming from this chanel, had relatives growing rapeseed and corn east of GRAND PRAIRIE ALBERTA, i remember after shoveling bins we had to dump our boots in the toilet to get rid of rapeseed.
If the ground is hard enough to hold the water on top, you can usually skip across it once, because the water isn't soaking in. When you get mud the waters already soaked in thus making it muddy and chance of getting stuck increases.
Old millwright trick for grease on denim/canvas/cotton: Go outside, do NOT smoke or have flame, soak grease stain in starter fluid, work stain out by rubbing or brush. Do NOT go back inside until all evaporated. Good as new. 😀
MANNNNN! I've had my eye on a Thunder Creek MTT trailer now for two year's. BUT, I want it FULLY LOADED. ...every option available... But my accountant say's "No. Not yet." If there's standing water, theres usually a hard(ish) pan underneath it that supports the machine better. Mud usually means there's really just a deep layer of waterlogged soil that wont support anything. I hated mud more than anything when I ran a couple storage yards years ago. We never got a machine stuck where there was water but we had tons of trouble in muddy areas with no standing H2O.
I know it's been an exceptionally wet year but lots like Randy the master pipe layer isn't gonna run our of work any time soon when new wet spots show up !! Hope you can Dodge that rain,, you're very lucky to have that 4-wheel drive combine !! Thanks for the video!
I have always dreamed of getting in a big combine and spending the whole day harvesting. Our old 12 Ft Gleaner is nothing like what you have. Well I'm 71 already so I guess that won't happen. Love watching you though.
When I grow up I want to help people harvest. Since I was a kid I’ve wanted to drive tractors and such. I’m jealous of you Zach and here i joined the military 🤦🏼♂️ one day.
Hey Zach : Really good to see that you are finally in the field. Tough Year ! Wow.... Bathrooms everywere... Just as I remember it. Zack, your observation about not getting stuck in standing water is right on. If there's standing water that means the ground probably has a pan underneath that'll hold you up. Conversely, some soils allow water just deep enough to keep it from pooling but turn that whole strata into mud. The perfect soil would be able to handle a lot of water, perking it down quickly so it doesn't cause pooling or top strata mud, but who has all perfect soils?
The reason why going through water is better is that it cleans the mud off the tires.. when we harvest rice it is usually muddy and we sometimes leave some water on the field that way it’s easier for the combine and tractorss

I feel your pain. We’ve had the wettest 12 months on record near KC. Over 60” of precip. Mowing my 7 acres has been challenging to say the least. The Hustler Super Z 72 has been stuck and left many muddy tracks. Recently we’ve dried out some and the combines are rolling. And the grass is starting to slow down, so should be an ok fall. It ain’t easy farming a 7 acre yard with out A/C and heat, let alone auto steer. Reminds me of being on the Super M with a 2 row corn picker. Kids these days SMH🙄.
I have a vineyard out in the middle of bean & corn country here in SW Wisconsin, and the minute there is a break in the weather it's like a traffic jam of combines, hay balers and other equipment on the roads. We have much smaller fields so there is a lot more machinery moving around. Very hectic time of year!
We like our air reel system a lot it really works out nice in short beans and at night when the beans want to wrap in the reel . We have had ours for 2 years now . Ours are both crary systems as well ours are on there own reel ahead of the heads reel like yours . My neighbors run one that is plumbed into the center of the heads reel it cost them a lot more to retrofit that 45 feet draper header. Nice looking beans glad to see you harvsting.
Water keeps the mud from caking up too bad around the tire treads and it generally isn’t very sticky when there’s water involved. That’s what keeps you from getting stuck as long as you keep the wheels straight and just truck on through it without stopping. Just mud with no water is where problems tend to develop
The farmer I worked for always said the approach and leaving water the worst to go through. And yep that’s where we usually got stuck. And one year if remember right pulled him 14 times. And this was only a 40 acre field. Granted back then did not have rear wheel drive. That was one crappy day.
u are very lucky having sooooo beautiful and expencive machines!!!!!! here in greece we do not have those john deer models!!!!!!also huge land!!!!!!i wish i was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive noticed the mud/water getting stuck thing over the years too... I figure its because the water helps the mud not stick to the tires as much and allows em to self clean better.. I say that because i find the tires ball up with mud when there is no water but in water they stay kinda clean with a lot of lug exposure to engage the ground..
You mentioned driving through water versus mud. From my experience, in certain conditions and soil types the persistent water holes can hang around longer due to having a harder more dense soil which reduces the soils ability to absorb the water and gives a harder base to drive on.
You got mud? Buy a tracked combine. My uncle just bought a CAT-Lexion 576R combine with tracks. He said he will never go back to tires again, he loves the tracks and said he can go through just about anything! # tracksoncombines!!!
driving throu Water is more easy because the ground under it is relativ hard and compact, that's why the water is there. In areas where the ground is soft it takes al the moisture and so it's very muddy and hard to drive throu. That's how I learned it, sorry for my bad English im from Germany but good video!
My dad always says the same thing about the water, he says that since the water is still on the surface there is a hard pan underneath it and if you sink you will end up on that instead of sitting on your axels in the spots without the hard pan
I think the dislikes must be from other youtuber who are jealous of your channel. Cheers on starting harvest! Hope everyone comes home the way they left everyday!
The reason there’s standing water is because there’s a firm compacted soil base holding it. That’s also what it provides better traction than deep soft mucky slop
I think it is amazing what you do and so very interesting 😀 I also respect what you do and love it . 💗 I send yall lots of love from Alabama ❤️

“Where’s the bathroom at?” I was thinking right behind the tires before you even walked over 😂 love being a farm boy
Same!! Even though I don't farm, thats my dream. I have rode in combines before while harvesting my family's 30 some acres.
Thats been his joke for years now XD I didnt even notice him say it this time!
We've had nothing but rain for the last 3 days. I can't even imagine what Southwest Wisconsin farmers are going thru. Stay safe.

The standing water usually washes away all the dirt that’s soft enough to create mud so your left with a hard bottom
Yas if you have standing water , the ground is to hard for it to soak in!
Correct and it does a semi decent job of cleaning out the tires and prevents the mud from caking up.

Happy to see you've got started, Zach! Real sorry to see you're having to do the hardest way a farmer has to get it, in the mud! Good luck, be safe.
Retired now but as a kid we raised pigs and I had a small hay delivery service
Then as a young fellow in the 70s I work with a friend and we harvested Tomatoes
We did custom harvesting they also did sugar beets
The tomato harvester was a Hart & Carter it was a total mess of conveyors and drive belts a nightmare in the field
If the main drive belt broke it was 48 hours to replace it
In the early 70s I helped convert it to all hydraulic with hydrostatic drive
It got everyone’s attention that season
I had developed a very strong welding and fabrication from a uncle who was a welder and fabricator
This was a handy skill set
As most equipment we had was well used long before we ever laid eyes on it
In 74 we were ask to field test a new harvester from a company called Blackwelder harvester company
It was the first run with electronics sorters taken the place of 10 people
This gave me the opportunity to demo their Machine around the world
But I drug my feet a little to long and missed out on that opportunity
I also had worked at a big almond farm
leveling land to 2 tenths per 100 feet for flood irrigation. Running a DW 20 have you seen one of those
Then spent the rest of my days operating construction equipment and trucking I had my own company for years hauling anything and everything but my favorite was moving oversized equipment
Now I spend my time fixing old Jeep’s
Oh and don’t stress out to much if you get through the day with out a problem
Because those little problems will get together and find you in a day or 2
Nuts and bolts come loose and if they get a chance will run off
The place where you live is very modern, where I live very hard work.
Always enjoyable and informative.
Thanks.
Do you think you could do a video of just the machines and everything running? The sounds of harvest?
I love hearing all the different engines running together. Good luck on Harvest this year!
