No matter the character, she simply inhabits the person she's playing. She completely disappears and let's the character speak, and evolve right before our eyes! I am blessed to be alive at the same time she is. What a gifted actor! Aren't we all lucky to see her perform? 🌟
The amazing thing about Meryl is her ability to become whoever she portrays, so that we no longer see her, but her character through hard work, talent, imagination.
The most remarkable performance. It is not easy to perpetuate such a unique, strong personality. i have seen clips of the movie, and cannot wait to see the movie in full. Amazing performance Meryl.
As an American who lived in the UK (1984-1987) under Thatcher while she was still in office, it was VERY interesting for me to watch The Iron Lady, MAINLY because Thatcher seemed so mythic to me as a political figure. What I ❤️ about Streep's performance, is that she humanized Thatcher's life, and gave her some context about what she had to put up with being a woman in a party dominated by men.
Meryle Streep performance is sensational, she is one of the best actors of actors off all time, no question, no debate. But I have to say I’m from a place called Motherwell in Scotland, which was once famous for making steel and it was a profitable industry. But because of thatcher government and there de-industrial policies the local economy tanked and never recovered. Today the local economy is service sector jobs, zero hour contracts and no workers union. I was only a child when it happened but I remember the dole line being out of the door and half way down the high street in favour of a centralised economy in London where it’s all numbers on a computer screen. She was the first female leader of the uk, fair enough. But the females in my family absolutely despised her because of the economic suffering she caused. And I don’t think American audiences are aware of that interpretation of the story.
I was discussing the Iron Lady with a friend today during a lecture - baring in mind im 18 years old and a friend said she didnt want to watch it because its a "granny movie" and since we're both from Britian i thought well isnt it worth going to get gain some knowledge on pivotal British history - and Meryl Streep alone should make you want to watch it, its a highly subjective film and i dare say that Meryl deserves the Oscar this year!
Let it be clear that I admire Margaret Thatcher. Not for being a woman, or the first female prime-minister. Those things shouldnt matter. But because she stood up for something and be unmoveable. She and Reagan were awesome

STREEP IS AMAZING... I am British and watched Streep electrify the screen and cinema... Meryl Streep is an incredible actress. This has to win another Oscar for her... as for The View, I agree, only Whoopi Goldberg is good, giving Meryl time to answer a very good question. The rest do really talk over each other... clearly Barbara Walters thinks she leads this group!
Whoopi nailed the whole interview with her first question which hit at the core of Thatchers enigma/ego. With her intelligence, wit, lack of bullshit, warmth, and streetwise nuance, its time Goldberg made Whoopi with her own talk show.
They should of just let Whoopi interview Meryl. Whoopi is the only one who ask a question and then give her a chance to answer it. She not trying to talk over her. WOW Meryl I would of just walked off. Good for you. Good luck at the oscar!
Meryl Streep's performance was beyond fantastic, but lets not forget that Thatcher was a politician and she did negatively affect so many people to a fatal point.
@O K I know exactly what it means. Maybe you need to be educated in what fatal means or maybe you didn't witness the effects of Thatcher. You probably haven't witnessed people whose lives were so negatively affect by Thatcher and her decisions. Decisions that caused many elderly to die.
@moonerman100 Conrats on the Golden Globe! Yeah! I really hope she gets another Oscar this year! Me and my friends adored the movie, such a great performance! She is just the most amazing actress ever! I could spend weeks watching all of her movies and I would not be bored!

Mrs Thatcher was nicely feminine looking, graceful. Beautiful. Grand. A True Conservative. She was Great.
Today's American conservatives would call Margaret Thatcher a leftist.
