    I had the BMW R1200ST and was convinced it's a big machine, then I saw the K1600GT and bought it. The R1200ST and K1600GT are standing side by side, it looks like a child's bike and mothers bike, damn big mama the K1600GT, 100 kilogram heavier! But the K1600GT handles even lighter, but ONLY when driving, that's really the thing to do, drive it, drive it and drive it ;) She is the most comfortable bike I ever driven. Standard settings I always use are suspension: COMFORTABLE, throttle: ROAD. I have very massive back problems and the K1600GT makes it possible even for me not to given up driving a motorcycle. For almost 10 years I could not drive any motorcycle, thank God BMW have made this (for me) PERFECT BIKE!

      Josla I’ve also had back issues and both the GSA and GT have overcome these issues greatly actually to the point that riding other motorcycles can be very painful on my lower back, so it’s great to read that someone else also has had the same problems and thankfully BMW have built the bikes very comfortably, thanks for the valued comments, ride safe 😁👍

      @@RMK67 Thank you mate :) The GT is my last, no the only bike I will drive for the rest of my life, I'm 52 and I have arthrosis on 5 dorsal vertebra (lowest spine discs). It's a dream riding again. You may not believe it but I drive a Mercedes ML 320 CDI 2008, driving it for an half hour and I need at least 15 minutes for I can walk a little bit. Driving the GT for an hour and I can step of and walk right away! Even for me a strange thing, love the bike a lot! :) O, sorry Nice video mate 👍

    I just bought the K1600GTL . Had it about a month and finished the 600 mile service recently. Rode it today up to Austin for the MotoGP races. It was a pure pleasure on the highway. We had lots of wind and i passed alot of other bikes that seemed to be not fairing as well in the high wind. Love this bikes power and comfort. So far no problems with anything. Enjoyed the video. Subscribed!

      GTLmike cheers Mike for the sub, appreciated. Yes the K16's are in their absolute element in high speed touring and wind buffering. The fairings of both the GT & GTL are just absolutely superb. Sounds like the ride was a fantastic excuse to get out on the 16 - ride safe mate and thanks for the comment and sub 😀👍

    I agree. My type of riding would support the road bike way more than the GSA, however I would have a hard choice to make a choice between the two. they are simply superb examples of taking two different paths to get to the same place.

    Own the GSA and made the mistake of riding the K1600... You are correct in that the GSA does it all and very well, but that 1600 on the freeway :) She is a heavy girl, but she rides so smooth with that inline 6. Going to keep the GSA and looking now for a K1600GT.
    Good video

    Hi I currently ride a 2009 GS but hunger after a 1600 but finances dictate otherwise, well so my wife says ! Look at loads of road reports and learnt that they offer comfort with speed so what is not to like. Have to keep doing the Lottery then. Thanks for posting.

    I have a lot of experience on both motorcycles. Both are top-shelf machines, but here are some additional considerations:
    1) the K1600 is much more difficult to handle in traffic. It is very heavy and it is a handful at low speeds. The R1200 is sublime when it comes to low speed manoeuvring. I commute in a big city on my GS and the boxer is remarkably nimble.
    2) when emphasis is on comfort, the K1600 wins hands down, especially for the pillion. Seats, fairing and windscreen enable me and wife to ride all day. We can only do 6 hours a day on the GS before my wife files divorce papers.
    3) the r1200 is unstoppable and can go anywhere. This is a real consideration in Canada when roads are torn up and suddenly you’re riding 50Kms on broken pavement, gravel or that awful concrete groove stuff. The K1600 devours interstates and really thrives on beautiful tarmac and wide-open roads.

      RM K Yes sir. You are living the dream. I have a 2016 R1200GS - my second GS - and I love it. The thing is, I had the opportunity to open up a K1600GTL in the desert outside Las Vegas and the experience still haunts me. The boxer motor just doesn’t sound as cool as the inline 6.

    Difficult to compare, but a very good video explained. They are both very sexy bikes, however for me the winner would have to be the K1600. She's SO beautiful! However, your GSA's colours and lines are sexy as well. Cannot wait to ride her! Great video.

    No you are right I owned a GS did over 150,000km now I have a K1300GT which has the same Brake horse power, but is much less weight than K1600GT I just can fault the bike fast comfortable and as I don't have long legs feel better when I grind to a halt. :)

      @RMK67  7 років тому

      Yes Paul, the K1300 is truly a wonderful bike as I also owned one and the K1200, sold K1300 unfortunately and have to admit, the most stupidest decision I have ever made (still regret it to this day) but the K1600 is helping with that grief - LOL. Thanks for the comments and ride safe... :)

    But what about R1200 RT? How does it fit into the conversation? Does it bridge any of the negatives/positives of the other two?

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  6 років тому

      Vaporflux yes very good question as it’s also a very capable bike but I’m not overly impressed with the bulbous fairing and lack of power that the K16 provides, therefore my obvious choice between the GSA and RT would be the GSA for ease of all types of riding situations and the K16 as an excellent long distance tourer with bucket loads of power on tap, thanks for the comments 😁👍

    • @RoamingWithRobert
      @RoamingWithRobert 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the response. I'll probably never go off-road and mostly ride on tarmac (interstate and backroads) so the choice for me is between R1200 RT vs K1600. Additionally, the GS is so dang tall for me - i'm 5'9' 187lbs and 30in inseam. The K16 is intimidating to me in small spaces and when maneuvering at slow speeds (due to its weight). The RT is more maneuverable and lighter but i'm not a fan of the anemic power output and boxer engine vibration. ugh. quite the quandary

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  6 років тому

      I'm the same, the GSA will not do any off-road adventures and basically its my fun bike around town and short rides BUT the good news for you, the new 2019 GSA (1250cc) actually comes with lowered seat configuration so it may be worth while popping off to the local BMW Motorrad dealership and discussing how the bike can be altered to suit you, best of luck with the final decision and ride safe... :)

    GSA has 92 KW and 125 Nm not 82 KW and 120 Nm. Nothing wrong with your decision just a the choice of buying the gsa if your not into what is made for? not having the gsa means never going off road ever. Just having the gsa would mean in OZ still going over double the legal speed limit on a bike that eats the 1600 on the track just for slightly more comfort a lot to give up I think for a tiny little bit of comfort.

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  7 років тому

      Bill Fraser it's all based on what you do with your bike, me personally I use the GSA for short city riding and a run up the mountains where the tight twisty corners the GS excels over the GT. My intention not to use the GS on the dirt doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the bike but I do appreciate your comments - thank you and ride safe 😱

    If you’re only doing road, there is absolutely no question the K1600 is better. Seems obvious. However, if you want to explore offroad, the GSA. I just wish the GSA has a 21” front wheel to make it better off-road.

    • @RMK67

    • @ryanmalone2681
      @ryanmalone2681 2 роки тому

      @@RMK67 Yes. However, there are more than 2 worlds. I have 4 bikes; track bike (600), middleweight ADV I use for off-road or only getting to the off-road trails, a supersport rocket ship for on road, and a K1600’for long distance sport touring. I probably wouldn’t add a fifth, but rather create more dual purpose with the K1600 part of the garage.

    what if you have to pass thru heavy traffic area with passenger + full loaded pannier. Is the K's the same as the GSA. The reason is i have GSA LC when is fully loaded i feel the rear is too heavy when taking off is has a bit of head move and with the height of the bike is kinda hard to control during heavy traffic filtering. I'm not sure about the K's my be lower seat make easier filtering traffic when has passenger and loaded pannier.

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  5 років тому +1

      S M. Pretty much the same although the rear suspension on the K1600GT is geared for heavy loads and far more stabile under acceleration than my GSA, although the GSA is far easier to filter but like all things on a motorcycle, just got to be careful 😎👍

    I've been riding for 44 years. I've had 7 BMWs. I find the gs LC cramped with rider and passenger on. And top heavy when carrying luggage. It also has horrible vibrations through the handlebars which makes my hands go numb. It's great on the twisties and pulls really well but I find it very tiring on longer trips.

    I own a GSA (2014) and was given a 1600 to try whilst mine was being serviced. I get to ride a few BMW bikes at all sorts of speeds. I really liked the K but it was just toooooooo big. To fiddly, and felt like riding a nice lipstick to make my face look pretty. I genuinely couldn't wait to get back on my GSA. It was like riding a trusty old mule compared to a beautifully prepared stallion. Horses for courses. The K is immense, but the GSA is just a beast

    RM K; Very good comparo, you are very lucky to own both. I have been considering the exact choice, as my banker (wife) will not approve 2 bikes. The only things that you did not touch on was maint. costs, and performance/ fuel mileage/acceleration etc. Even though the GT looks better on paper the GS gives up very little in 0-60/ and 1/4 mile performance. Not sure about roll on comparo though. I really was sure that the GS would come out on top, I really like the idea of being able to tour and explore while touring and not being stuck to the paved roads only. Also if you should ever drop either of the bikes, little to no damage to GS where as the GT..... well it goes without being said paint and body work more than likely.
    Well my research continues but I have to say I'm REEEALLY leaning towards a GSA.
    Thanks.

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  7 років тому

      Yes agreed, I'm lucky to have both bikes under one roof, Oh and my wife didn't know until the day of the delivery so the (Banker) could poo poo my decision - LOL. Now maintenace costs, again I'm lucky to have a client within BMW so the cost of servicing, well actually there hasn't been any so I can't help on that side. Speed and performance goes the GT, its absoluetly awesome. Fuel economy goes to the GS with such a large fuel tank and roll comparo would definitely favour the GT by a mile as the torque is so massive...!!! No thankfully I have never dropped either bike and the final decision comes down to what you are really looking for in a bike and it sounds like the GSA is perfect for what you want, you won't be disappointed as I just loooove the GSA, its just an all rounder that does everything so bloody well. Thanks for the comments and ride safe... :)

    Like you I am lucky enough to have both bikes (but the GT SE) and so can directly relate to what you are saying. I think I would however go the other way if I had to choose. I think the GSA is a better "can do it all" bike where are the GT is touring focused. I also like the amount of customizing you can do on the GSA that is part of making the bike your own. There are so many out there you need to make it different (love the colour of yours). However the reason I have the GT is for pillion comfort for touring - my wife finds it far superior in every respect. As long as she wants to join me - the GT stays. It does have an awesome engine! Ah - I can quickly talk myself out of my decision! Let's hope I am never forced to make that choice! Both brilliant bikes.

    Regarding comfort, gsa is the best sir unless you are shorter than 1,70..

      Indeed, the specs quoted on the R1200 are for the pre 2013 model. It also depends on the roads you ride, but that everyone already knows. A little unknown items seems to however be leg room. If you're taller and older, you'll hate any BMW touring motorcycles other than the new K1600s with floor boards, and should rather go with the R1200GS which offers much better leg room.

    I own a R1250 GSA and have just ordered a K1600GT Sport so realy good to see your opinion on these two side by side. Hopefully like you I will be keeping both.

    We can lane split in Calif and a full dress bike is too big. So the best compromise would be R1200R maybe ha. But I looove that I6!

      Dave auf dem BMW yes seen recently the R1200 R and it's a very nice looking bike and agreed, the GTL is just toooo big, thanks for your comments and ride safe 😎👍

    I just sold my Ducati Monster1200s and bought a K1600GT two very different beasts.
    Enjoying the k16's sublime engine and comforts /everything has its place.

      The K16 is just a great bike and I'm loving her even more now that I have replaced the rubber with the Angel GT's - just so much fun to ride and the engine is magic - its kills the GSA for ease of power - thanks for your comments, appreciated... :)

      Yes awesome bike! I have the 2011 model and will need tyres soon as it currently has an Angel gt on the front and Mezt z8 on the rear go figure ? guess the previous owner was undecided ha ha/

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  7 років тому +1

      Yes definitely undecided - LOL, I found the Metz wear very flat so I'm hoping the Angels will have a better wear performance but the grip is just bloody amazing. Enjoy your new steed, I came from a K1300 GT to the 1600 and haven't looked back... Safe riding mate

      thats the nice thing about that, you know my wife has an R1200R and when i`m in the mood i can at least use her bike :-) I should have talked her into a GS :D

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  7 років тому

      Funny I do the same with my wife except on 4 wheels, when I'm bored of the X3, I take out her little 1 series "M", not the same as the two wheels but still enjoyable... :)

    I am torn between the K1600 and the RT but I think the 1600 would be the winner. The RT, like the GS is amazing all around with good power and wonderful handling, but how could you not take the straight 6?!?

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67  7 років тому

      I love my GSA, it's such an all rounded bike that can do everything BUT the K1600 with it's inline 6 just pips the GSA for the preferred ride, JUST...!!!, thanks for your comments... :)

    Thanks for a great video, I'm thinking of the GT as a second bike. Really enjoy my 2014 F800GSA for country roads and single track, but rather sluggish on highway,thanks again for your input.

      @RMK67  7 років тому

      Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the vlog and honestly it wouldn't really matter to me which bike I rode, as long as it was enjoyable as I'll take anything with two wheels. The GT is just such an awesome bike, I've just replaced the OEM tyres with GT 2 and have fallen back in love with my big girl, (again)... LOL - safe riding mate and thanks for the comments.

    I haven’t pulled the trigger on this yet, I absolutely love how smooth the K1600 is since I will be doing ally of highway driving. But at the same time I’ll be taking the bike on dirt roads/trails, not to bad but they will be off the paved roads. I like to camp and I shoot astrophotography so running to the dark places in the USA. I had a K1200 GT and loved it the only time I don’t like it was with a strong cross wind, it would push me all over. Great video!

      Andres Melo your keen to put the big 16 on dirt roads 🤔, although very stable it’s still not a bike I would choose for these types of roads, that why I also have a GSA in the garage 👍 thanks for the comments, best of luck with the purchase and ride safe 😎😁
