After playing a few games in the Early Access event (thanks Wizards!), I can already say Jodah's Codex is great in dedicated Domain decks, so at the very least a C+ For more updated ratings, make sure to join the Patreon or subscribe through Twitch.
It's 2AM and I am currently studying for my histology exam that's tomorrow. Will be an all-nighter I reckon. I can't wait to come home and watch the shit out of this video! Your effort is commendable. Best MTG content creator- no doubt.
thanks so much for doing this. i usually listen to limited resource or lords of limited for these things, but neither have any content up 5+ days after full set spoiler, and 2 days until pre release. was pretty bummed about that at first, but now i'm glad, as i otherwise wouldnt have discovered this channel. cheers and thanks for the great content
Thank you LVD for this amazing content. I just came back to Magic after two years, and finding your limited set review resparked my interest for the limited format, that I played a lot during the Theros beyond death set. And even then I was watching your videos, and I must say, your understanding of the game, regarding both deck building and strategic play, gave me a big advantage over the competition, and most importantly made the format a lot of fun. So, thank you very much!
Got back into Mtg about a month ago your set reviews and gameplay videos have been invaluable to me getting back into the game, thanks for all the great work.
As much as I love commander, cards being designed for it in limited really hurts the format. It's clear half the legendary creatures weren't designed with the set in mind. This "throw it in there, design it for constructed" really hurts set cohesion and just leads to forgotten sets, remembered singles and that sucks imo
Excellent job, much appreciated going to help my return to paper play this weekend for my sealed and two headed giant. Of course will help with my arena as well. Thank you! :)
The soul of windgrace "activate his discard effect in response and then get the land back" is totally right. Because it just says "get a land back" and it doesn't target, you don't have to decide which land to grab until the trigger has already resolved. Similarly, if you have a few lands in your graveyard, you can grab one, and then if an opponent exiles it in response, grab another land instead (although you don't tell your opponent which land you're getting until the ability has resolved)
I think it's important to note about Rith, Liberated Primeval that you can deal excess damage during your combat phase and then cast Rith, getting the 4/4 dragon at the end of your turn, without the opponent expecting it. It seems relatively feasible to enable it, and that makes it even more busted IMO.
I watch quite a bit of Magic content on UA-cam every day and I don't think I've ever seen anyone play sewer crocodile you mentioned in the letter grade explanation:-)
I also can't help but think of Constructed decks and I really hope Mirror Box makes a recurrence. Mirror Box + multiple copies of Jodah, the Unifier would be a janky sight to see!
For Astor I’m pretty sure he works for the kamigowa equipments - spending 1 mana to make something into a 5/5 menace demon sounds pretty dope (blade of the oni)
@@sanitynotincluded4837 My mistake, had Bruenor in mind which works a little differently. Yes, this should be sweet with Reconfigure, thanks for the idea!
@2:55:10 With Chaotic Transformation, players should probably always exile one of their own lands to gain the mana back... if they can do anything with it. Sad it's not an instant. EDIT: I hate Defiler of Vigor.. it makes the Black one look like a joke. Why can't these be symmetrically designed, or at least similar in power level when they are all costed the same?
Yeah! Another set review! Me like those big time. Thanks for all your great, hard work, mate! 🙂 Edit: Actually watched it in one go this time. A testament to the quality of your review!
I think the entire point of Sol'Kanar in Limited is that you should sacrifice it before you're forced to give it to the opponent. This shouldn't be difficult to do in Grixis colors, and at that point you've gotten quite a bit of value.
Yeah, bant is going to be a nightmare. Counterspells that make creatures, ramp that makes creatures, creatures that make counterspells draw cards, creatures that make counterspells make more creatures.

Join Forces also has some benefits with Enlist creatures. Say you had two creatures and four enlist creatures in a go wide deck. Could you not stack the four triggers, resolver two, cast Join Forces, pump the two creatures, then let the last two resolve? Helps in the mirror two since big boards build up on each side. Especially on cards that get effects from being tapped, I can see this being a B in this set.
You didn't mention the third ability (out of four) of Plaza of Heroes, which generates mana of any color for any use, not just for legendary spells. It's based on the colors of legendaries you control, though, so maybe it doesn't improve the overall card a ton, but it does a bit.
Yeah, cut out the part where I read that as it was a little confusing. The first draft that's going out today features the card and actually used it that way.

Have to disagree on the Raven Man. Raven tokens being unable to block makes them considerably worse, and 1/1 flyer just doesn't end games that quickly. The discard ability being sorcery speed means that in early game it would take your entire turn to use, which means that you won't. In late game when you would have the mana to spare your opponent no longer has any cards in hand! It's just too clunky card to work well, and overall I'd rate it a D.
DMU has some other fun ways of sneaking in excess damage for Rith's passive! Along with red burn spells (and the one in white), there're 9 instant speed pump spells in Naya and two fight effects!
They have names tied to Dominaria, and Pioneer players have been asking for the allied painlands (the enemy ones are already in because of Magic Origins). It's a nombo with domain but otherwise this was probably the best place to put 'em.

Did you test the domain mechanic? I was thinking a little here, and it seems easier to reach 4 types quite frankly.
@@Mirphise Yeah decks easily get to 4 types in limited if they prioritize lands in draft.

It's a 2-drop with a lot of extra upside if games drag out.
Won't be as good as in constructed, but still a great pick.
Thatˆs basically the end of Radâs story……..couldnˆt stop laughing😜
No mention of compeated on Ajani? Makes a Big difference if only having 2 loyalty when casting it for 3 mana
If he's not under pressure I don't mind getting it down early to draw cards, but yeah it will depend on the board.

I got absolutely wrecked by jodah’s codex against a 5 color domain deck
With all of these legendary creatures MIRROR BOX will be broken as hell in this new set.
It's really amusing how no one reviewing these cards is prepared for the name King Darien XLVIII. The numeral means 48 for anyone who's wondering.
Wasn't prepared to read it on the fly, but love working them out.
If sol'kanar stays in the battlefield for 9 turns, you would get it back, yea?
Yup
Let’s go
A limited review not a constructed one... So there's a slight chance that less than 99% of the cards will be useless. Ayyy!
Of all Rare Lands.. why put in pain-lands in this set? I just don't get it..
