- One of the crowning achievements of Western music, Beethoven's Ninth (and final) Symphony, epic in scale and character, is one of the earliest and still best-known examples of the use of human voices in a symphony. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the work, we prepared you a mashup with nine iconic performances that includes the greatest conductors and orchestras...

Today is the 200th anniversary and I'm posting about it on all my social media but few people seem to notice. It is saddening that not many people nowadays enjoy this iconic masterpiece.
True, even I didn't know about it. I found out because someone told me on Discord
Not so, many are. For free on youtube. Many many more then the old days only in a concert hall.
I've promoted it too. Music is arts, so it's a matter of taste, different people enjoy different things. I wouldn't worry about how popular a piece of art is.
I find that we have left the symphony behind as a structure for a continuous flowing set of related musical pieces, and we have adopted the album in its place.
I know these pieces, and though I don't know the structure of a symphony, I enjoy them nonetheless.
It makes me wonder how long before the symphony is lost to time
Same with me, I’d like to think that the right people will notice.
I was very privileged to be part of the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra chorus for their performances of this stunning symphony earlier this month 🎵👍
This is a great day!! Beethoven's ninth symphony will always be remembered as one of the greatest works of all time🩵
All of them are divine. Happy birthday to one of the most beautiful symphonies in the world!
Greatest piece of music ever written

Rest In Peace, Grand Architect of Sound.
most beautiful piece of music ever written across any genre.✨
Pfft over the hills and far away is the most beautiful piece of music ever written. Millions of Brits, Canucks, Aussies, Kiwis and other Anglos died listening to that from the late 1600's-present
What a piece of music
Beethoven , i hope you ressurect and disguise yourself and come to vienna for this grand celebration
See you there

Love
Yours sincerely
Music
Greatest piece of music ever composed.
Outstanding, nearly-seamless, editing and great performance choices!
The transitions from performance to performance are perfectly seemed together that THAT also is part of this masterpiece.
One of greatest composers, I know all of his sonatas. I love the 5th and 9th. I think older people like myself appreciate his music.
Simply beautiful. I love Beethoven!
The fifth movement Ode to Joy. The whole world should hear this.
Saw the 9th done by the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Had tears in my eyes at the end ♥️
Amazing how Barenboim leads the bassoons! Such a beautifully crafted line, and often very hard to hear. BTW, I can't believe that Lenny's 1989 rendition wasn't included in this list...
There is a movie called immortal beloved, about his life. I bought the DVD and watch it often.
Incredible and amazing what we human can do besides acting like animal beast in the jungle, thank u for sharing!👍
It is one of the most important works in the history of orchestral music. Beethoven's 9th symphony had the power to shape the future that came after.
Happy aniversary, i love it
I ❤ Beethoven
Gracias Medici TV. Excelente regalo
The 200 year aniversary of 9th from Beethoven is sharing of ART from God and Mr. Ludwing, ❤🎉
This is fun, nine different performances.
Most powerful double bass in the 4th movement ❤❤, closest to humans voice, and my favourite one is Karajan by year 1963, a typical BEETHOVEN soul inspired.
Surprised that Böhm's recording with the Wiener Philharmoniker (DG, 1970s) isn't mentioned here.
Well, not as iconic, perhaps, but I sing in the Pacific Chorale (Orange County, California, Grammy award winner 2022 for best choral performance) and we - with the Pacific Symphony - are preparing for yet another performance of "B9", the first week of June (4 shows). We had a rehearsal Tuesday, right on the anniversary, and it was mentioned. A bit moving, I must say.
Iconic performance two Furtwangler and Bohm
Abbado. Conductor Climbed to the highest Place in Music
I miss Karajan in the list! Baremboim is twice; so I add Karajan.
🤧👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌
❤🎉
EL QUE MUCHO ABARCA POCO APRIETA..........CON CUALQUIERA DE LAS NUEVE SINFONICAS HUBIERA ESTADO MEJOR.........GRACIAS.......!!

I wish Thailand symphony have a chance
The omissions here speak more truthfully than the inclusions. The foul stench of academia reeks from Cambridge Massachusetts through Vienna all the way to Gaza
It’s absolutely disgraceful to pull a list just include one country that exports represents racial supremacy and miss the actual top performers. Politics mixed with arts at its darkest levels.
Where is Christian Thielemann version? He is the best one of this time. Daniel Barenboim is overrated 2 times in the same video, and Lahav Shani, really ? Finally Klemperer instead of Karajan and Furtwängler version? Perhaps the only request for your list was find a jewish version ...😪
It’s just a political statement to put Israel there
Yeah of course, Karajan’s splendid 9th symphony did not make it to a top performance like these 😒
Injecting politics into art is really absurd
Awful selection! With such amazing performances of this masterpiece , this is the "Iconic" set you have come up with? And, if Beethoven wanted to write a ballet music, he would done so. The last one is pathetic! Seriously?
ed polochick and lincoln symphony of nebraska is the worst.
Mengelberg and Кlemperer, the rest sucks.
