Now here is another of your recipes I want to try-I’m still making the fried okra-I can’t get past it it’s so good! When I get tired of it I’ll make this. I love some summer squash. I grew up north of the Mason/Dixon line but my folks were just country folks. My grandma and mama cooked veggies out of garden in bacon grease same as you-we had a lot of fried cabbage and green tomato’s too. When the sweet corn was on we had that for dinner and tomato sandwiches for many meals. Now some of the southern veggies are new to me like okra and summer squash. that’s why your videos are so interesting-grandma and mama would’ve made them the same way if they had them in our garden. She didn't have to ask me twice lol. She cut her's in circles and only cooked a few at a time. I like your way better. Next time I fry some I am gonna cook it your way. Just ran across this one. Never seen it fried in chunks like that. Love the idea! My Granny made what we called “stewed” squash and onions. Same concept but no corn meal. Just cut up squash with onions, salt and pepper. It was one of my favorite things she made! ❤
this is one thing I’m going to miss this year as fry squash. As I don’t know what the planting season is in North Carolina. I moved here from Idaho and their planning season was even different than my home state of Utah which is only 2 1/2 hours away. There’s so much rain in North Carolina at that, I just have to learn when a plan and how to plan how to save it from all the water we get from all the bucket falls of rain.

Ok, o cooked a leg squash and about 1/3 med seeet onion and it was delish! ! I added a little pepper and salt. And guess what? My husband doesn’t eat squash so I ate it all! That was yesterday. Tomorrow I will cook up another squash and sweet onion. Another lady showed this same method only she let the coated squash sit 15 mins before cooking it. The sticky squash juice held onto the cornmeal better. I will try it that way tomorrow. As long as we get to eat yummy squash, right???
I love fried squash too . I agree , I love it fried , boiled, steamed , or in a casserole . Sometimes I even add a little sugar to my squash when I fry it or boil it . I like it with or without sugar , but definitely got to have salt and butter . You can tell she's a good cook !! ❣ I was thinking squash is good with corn cut off the cob and put some thickening in it . Some blacked peas or purple hulls , or pink eyed peas . Some fried okra ( okry ) 😉 . Some fried green tomatoes . Cornbread and some sliced cucumbers , tomatoes , and a sliced Vidalia onion . And maybe a roast or some fried chicken . Yes! Yes! Bacon grease makes everything fried taste soooo good! I save mine just for one of those reasons. I’m from the south as well. Sure have me hungry for some squash and ALL things fresh from the garden! I have never cut my squash like that but I bet I start..😉 Thanks for sharing!

I boil my squash with butter and onions and a lot of black pepper. It’s absolutely delicious.
S Shutt me too, but I add about 2 or 3 depends on the pan size of chicken bullion.
