I lived here for five years, have lived in many types of communities and this was the best. People were friendly and I had everything I needed within walking distance and a great subway ride to midtown.
The Garden apartments are large similar to the ones in the Bronx. Families were large back in the day. My Uncle Thomas known as Dapper Dan had a very large apartment with a lovely cout yard on 40th street. He Hung out in Gallagher's Bar in the 50s intol the late 70s. He loved Sinnyside. Im a staunch Greenpointer lived here for over 60 yrs. Just hop on the 48 and get off on Greenpoing and Mahattan. Its an awesome neighborhood as well. With a lot of History. Have a Great Day everyone!
Wow, Queens is my kind a place to be. I have never been in Queens. Only Manhattan and Staten Island. I enjoyed you video again. Thanks for the tour. Greetings from Dave in The Netherlands (NL)
I enjoyed seeing around Sunnyside. As a kid, i use to spend a lot of time in Sunnyside when some of my family moved out there from Hell's Kitchen. I pass through there going to see my family in Calvary Cemetery these days. Thanks for the wonderful memories. 😊❤
@@carolinesmith8024 Hello Caroline! No worries. I'm going to be buried in Calvary too. I spend a lot of time in the spring time planting flowers at my families graves. I've been doing it with my elders since I was a little kid. I'm now showing my grandchildren, hoping they will keep the tradition going on. I so agree, that life is passing by quickly. That's why we have to enjoy each and everyday. Take good care..😊
Always a fairly safe hood. Through my adolescent yrs My friends and I always went ti White Castle as yrs went by ee hung our in Gill Dades and for a really groovy time we went to the Honka Monka every weekend it was 5 dollars to get in but it was live bands. One if the best times if my life until life got serious working marriage and childre. There are good Resturants and some Irish places still exist. At one time in the 40s and late sixties it wss predominantly Irish. The Center Thearter and I think PJ Hogans Irish Pup was where we went to eat after the movies. Food was always reasonable and the people were very kind and welcomed everyone. Thats what you can exspect from the Irish.
The buildings you passed on 49th street between Skillman Ave. & 43rd Ave are called, if I recall correctly, the Matthews apartments and are actually in Woodside. The Sunnyside/Woodside boundary, except for the Sunnyside Gardens Park, is 48th street. I grew up on 47th street & 43rd avenue. Thank you for the tour. I recalled many beautiful memories as you passed buildings where my childhood friends lived.
Chicago is half that for a studio. Maybe even $800. This vaguely reminds me of Chicago and the area I reside. Apartment buildings Like this are not seen in Chicago, but it has a Chicago feel.
The Sunnyside Gardens Arena was located at Queens Blvd. and 45Th Street on the south side of QB, where Wendy’s is located today. There is actually a small monument in front of Wendy’s memorializing the arena.

Those homes were built to last and most were owned by the Irish. I don't mean Narrow backs they were from Ireland and if you considered pruchasing one of these homes way back you couldn't if you weren't from Ireland. The Irish stuck together its Trible. I was Irish decent so we were unable to purchase at that time A private park tells you all. Like Forest Gardens. People want to hold on to thier values and roots. I have know problem with it.
This is a good guided walk, very informative, clear and good voice. Thank you!

Thank you Dianne, you sound like an awesome person.
love it thanks for sharing.
I like non-narrated videos instead of narrated ones. It lets me immerse myself in the area without distracting narrations.
I agree. Perhaps narration could occur via subtitles.
Great video quality. Sharp and vivid images. Keep cool in the heat- it’s going to get hot!

Se ve un barrio tradicional casi no se parece a otros barrios. Grata gente y buenos servicios pareve.

As dense as the population looks with so many apartment bldgs. the streets look very clean.
Dense population on avenues closest to subway and much lower density (2 and single family homes) the further away from the subway on QB.

I lived their many years ago where the arch is located once stood the Sunny side garden arena which had sporting events mainly boxing
