She is my inspiration . I am a Contralto singer. I have always loved her voice.
Music of surpassing beauty and tenderness. And Ferrier’s voice - a thing of beauty is a joy forever. In these days of violence, ugliness, crudeness, a balm for the soul.
Such a distinctive voice. Immediately recognizable.
another great recording by Ferrier
Фантастика, какое исполнение, бесподобно, не перестаю восхищаться, как жаль, что так мало было отпущено этому уникальному таланту.
Brahms and Kathleen and Bruno make heavenly music.
she makes my tears flow
Me too
beautiful to hear her voice capture those notes so confidently and with such balance... entranced, I am entranced.
Hello Stephen , you are not alone ......
The viola has a huskiness that complements Ferrier's voice very well. And of course, her voice is divine! Thank you for posting. :)
ugh. The violist is EXECRABLE. There is nothing 'husky' about Ferrier's lovely instrument.
One of my favorite recordings--thanks so much for posting!
Extremely beautiful. Thank you.
БРАВО!!!
БЛАГОДАРЮ!!!
❤
3:23 ..... the voice of Ferrier during some seconds ...... this so tremendously beautiful ....... I am completely upset and "verloren" (lost) ... ...... were Angels males or females ... ?
Шикарный голос!!! Мягкий, бархатный!!! Какая интонация!!!
It's wonderful to hear this without all the cracks and spits on our old record, which I still have but which has been played to death. I love the delicate pathos in Kathleen Ferrier's voice, and it's also nice because I had lessons with Max Gilbert when I was at college. He was so very long suffering of my early attempts as a violinist trying to read in alto clef. I've since performed these songs in public. Thank you for posting this. :)
My teacher too, I learnt so much from, particularly about playing Brahms.
You have my sympathies. Gilbert's no Primrose, or any other great violist.
A wonderful recording. Adore Kathleen Ferrier's voice. Sublime!
Absolutely agree
Such exquisite music! Bravo to Ms Spurr, ...this is just about as sympathetic an accompaniment as I've heard. I've played these songs so many times. Sometimes they possess my soul, and I can't stop hearing them in my heart.
I can only agree with you! This is a fine team. So sad that the overrated Gerald Moore spoiled the rare recording of these songs with Kirsten Flagstad.
TheKplmstr was
She's ok; the dreadful and out-of-tune violist spoils a lot. Ferrier is wonderful, as usual.
a voice of rare beauty
Thank you very much for posting this. :)
Lovely singing.TY Dobri for sharring and petrof4056 for posting.
Optimus res super esset prospere et varius sit amet. Ars longa vita brevis. Beautiful music, her voice and strong feelings
I am just a pedant: it should be Gestillte in the description above.....
What 'violet' textures and colours from the Viola, by Max Gilbert ? , and with such exquisite singing from Ferrier and subtle piano-undertow from Spurr : does music get better than this ?
A great deal better. Gilbert is a pig who shoves and 'moves' nearly every phrase in truly egregious fashion; he's out of tune half the time and makes an extremely mediocre sound. Spurr is at least bland (her only pretence to any virtue lol) but whomps the ends of many phrases and is generally devoid of subtlety. She whomps the shit out of the very last chord, which she has no clue how to voice, and doesn't even play it with Gilbert. Other than THAT, Mrs. Lincoln...
ONLY Ferrier is actually good.
@@genlyai5055 Freedom of speech, about arts, among many topics, is highly valued in democracies ; I respectfully disagree with your remarks, about this recording, dating from before my birth ; I treasure it . Surely it is possible to fully express your trenchant views in less uncouth language , unworthy of the artists recorded here ? With every good wish for your continued enJOYment of good music , whatever you deem such to be ..............
@@paulleech2283 Since there is a VASTLY SUPERIOR --in every way--performance on youtube with Marian Anderson, William Primrose, and Franz Rupp, I'll continue to treasure the performance which actually cherishes a Brahms masterpiece rather than abusing it. What is unworthy is the miserably mediocre viola and piano playing on the Ferrier recording. Thanks ever so for your opinions, and it's a pity the truth hurts you so much. :D
@@genlyai5055 I enJOYed the Marian Anderson, William Primrose, and Franz Rupp very much, also- 'Truth' in Arts , has many forms - have a great weekend..... ☘
@@paulleech2283 No. The truth may have many forms, lol. The truth of what a great artist and creator like Brahms wanted, and wrote, is not realized by shoddy or technically and esthetically INADEQUATE 'performances.' It is instead blackened and obscured and trashed by such 'performances.' Have a nice life. This little colloquy is OVER. 🤣🤣
Such a pity that she died before there was better recording equipment to capture her voice.
爱勃拉姆斯,爱凯瑟琳-费里尔!
一本調子で表情に乏しい声。
