Funny thing is my DM does the fortune telling thing every campaign, it's always really cool :)
If you make a DM guide to Hoard of the Dragon Queen I will love you forever. I have picked that for my DM debut, and I am quaking in my boots.
I'd love to do all the core 5e books, but I work full time outside of making these videos. I'm sure I'll get around to it at some point though.
@@YourPocketGM I completely understand, I'll be around - waiting with baited breath. :D
HotDQ and Rise of Tiamat are fun, classic DnD adventures, and are very on-rails (especially Hoard) which might help a new group of players or a new DM, but both books have some weird mistakes and strange decisions that make them a little hard to run (I'm running RoT right now and I'm REALLY off-book).
My advice would be to approach the books with an open mind and don't be afraid to change stuff that doesn't work or isn't interesting. Your players won't notice and it'll make you better at thinking on the spot and creating more interesting scenarios, which are essential skills for a DM to have. Look into Storm King's Thunder as well for some information about the surrounding areas of the Sword Coast, should your players decide to go off the beaten track.
Good luck and happy DMing!
As a dm of about 2 years, gotta ask. How'd it go?
Thank you. A ton of really good tips that will help my players prepare for barovia.
Hi Pocket GM, I hope you find the time to finish part 2 sometime soonish. I'm definitely going to watch and be here for Part 2.
Soon :)

@@YourPocketGM NICE!
Solid video. Thankyou man.
Did... did someone say Aasimar paladin?
I appreciate the effort but I feel like the base version could use a speed up of 15 percent?
I find 1.25 speed serves this video better than the normal speed
Could you plz do a DM guide for Tomb of Annhilation. Ive only ever run Lost Mines of Phandelver and TOA looks like a big step up
I second this!
Thank you for the guide! WotLK hype!
When I played, I used silver peices as makeshift daggers.
I recently saw a game where the DM included electrum in the currency of Barovia; silver would be more precious as a commodity than currency.
@@chainer8686 electrum is an alloy of gold and silver isn't it?
@@MathasiaJ This is just my understanding and I could be mistaken...
By lore; it's an alloy that has a composition of both silver and gold, that occurs naturally. It is not artificially made. Now focusing on to the game I mentioned which ran Curse of Strahd. In the land of Barovia, with werewolves, and other creatures that terrorize humans, pure silver has an extra use on top of the already high value it would have in any other world; as some creatures have weakness to, or can only be harmed by silver. Another idea, could be the DM just wanted to further sell the idea of the alien feeling of being in a new world, by adopting electrum and stressing trade with this currency which the players were not accustomed to.
I love the extra flavor in this. 💜
Its basically a scam letter that the players get and then trapped in Barovia haha
do *NOT* get your fortune read!! they are all curses ranging from Lycanthropy to being at disadvantage to charm and possession.
silver doesn't really exist in Barovia.
don't take Daylight, take Dawn.
Zombies have Multiattack.
I can't believe he actually recommended picking up find traps, that spell is so bad.
Yeah it's a terrible spell. Worse are PC's who are good at finding traps, but always forget to look.
What is the music called that plays at the very end
Very helpful thank you
I'd like to see u to a video for the new d&d essentials kit please
Did you honestly suggest taking find traps?
Where did u go why no strhad video for Halloween
warlock of undying and boom undead encounters way easier
If you make a DM guide to Tales of yawning portal
I have memorized the sunless citadel and have looked through the maps of the other campaigns pretty quickly, lots of traps, so maybe a rogues of the inquisition type with dungeon delver, would almost break the game!
would an artificer work?
My friend is Gming curse of strahd and I have an Artificer Triton. It seems very useful so far with the infusions although they are only at LVL 3.
no major story spoilers, immediately talks about the story.
