I wonder what the real purpose and mandate of the electricity minister is? Why not empower the Eskom Board and Senior Management to turn the ailing SOE around? Moreover, why not do this with the other strategic SOE as well, especially Transnet. Is a more bloated ministerial team really the answer? Time will tell. The country needs more effective and efficient governance to address the triple challenge - as mentioned by the President in his opening. He has one year in which to achieve meaningful progress.
