I don't think you can really shred a solid iron block such as a car engine. I think they must have been removed prior to shredding.
Try searching for "shredding an engine block". You'll change your mind. An entire V8 might last 30 seconds.

Yeah, I always think of how many good car parts get shredded. As someone who is a frequent customer of my local junk yard, I can tell you that they shred many thousands of dollars of useful parts. But I guess that creates scarcity which adds to the demand for parts that don't get shredded.
