I'll just leave this here for those who care I tried the best I could to put the timestamps immediately or a little bit before the first beat of the bar, not too late (0:00) A New World: is in 4/4 throughout the whole song (0:57) Altered Beast I: starts in 6/4 then at around 1:11 does 3 bars of 4/4 and 1 bar of 2/4 for 3 times (could be written as 3 bars of 14/4), then at around 1:24 does 2 bars of 4/4 and goes back to 6/4, then at around 1:40 it does the same thing as 1:11 (the 3 bars of 14/4), then at around 1:53 it does 2 bars of 4/4 and goes back to 6/4, then at around 2:17 it does 2 bars of 4/4 and goes back to 6/4, then at around 2:26 it goes to 11/8 (I count it as 5.5/4 if that makes sense), then at around 2:58 goes back to 6/4, then at around 3:19 ends with 2 bars of 4/4 (3:21) Alter Me I: is in 4/4 throughout the whole song (4:06) Altered Beast II: starts in 9/8 (can be counted as 4.5/4), then at around 5:39 it does 2 bars of 4/4 and goes to 9/4, then at around 6:15 it does 2 bars of 4/4 and goes to 6/4, then at around 6:25 goes back to 9/8, then at around 7:33 it does 2 bars of 4/4 and goes to 9/4, then at around 8:21 does 2 bars of 4/4 and ends in 9/8 (8:35) Alter Me II: is in 4/4 throughout the whole song (10:01) Altered Beast III: starts in 6/4, then at around 10:15 does 6 bars of 7/4, 4 bars of 4/4, 1 bar of 7/4 and goes to 6/4, then at around 10:42 goes to 4/4, then at around 10:51 does 6 bars of 7/4, 4 bars of 4/4, 1 bar of 7/4 and goes to 6/4, then at around 11:18 goes to 4/4, then at around 11:28 goes to 7/4 with a slower speed, then at around 12:00 goes back to the initial speed and does 2 bars of 4/4, 1 bar of 7/4 and goes to 6/4, then at around 12:13 ends with 2 bars of 4/4 (12:15) Alter Me III: is in 4/4 throughout the whole song (13:41) Altered Beast IV: starts in 11/8, then at around 15:25 does 3 bars of 7/4, 2 bars of 4/4, and then there's a silence break (it's hard to know how long it is, because the song slows down a bit during the last 2 bars before the break, but I count around 20 beats), then at around 15:40 goes back to 11/8, then at around 17:36 does 3 bars of 7/4, 2 bars of 4/4, then there's another silence break with the same duration as the first one, then at around 17:52 goes to 4/4, then at around 18:22 goes to 6/4, then at around 18:37 does 2 bars of 4/4 and goes back to 11/8, then at 18:50 ends with 2 bars of 4/4 (18:52) Life / Death: starts in 9/4, then at around 19:14 does 1 bar of 6/4 and ends with a strange outro where counting the time doesn't really matter
The imagery this song creates is so awesome. Pretty easy to imagine a hunter looking for sport when he sees an "altered beast" by the creek. At first it just looks like a slightly odd bear or other animal. He tries slaying it but mormal weaponry isn't doing much to it. As the fight goes on the Altered Beast becomes more and more deformed, I imagine it's true form being like a long, grotesque amalgamation of every kind of forest animal - bear, deer, elk, snake, beaver, mosquito, hawk, lizard, frog, etc. The hunter trying to fight his way around its wrapping, twisting body, fighting the Altered animals sticking out of its flesh. With each head he chops or shoots off he becomes more monstrous himself, getting the beast's blood on himself. Eventually the Altered Beast's dna gets into his cells, as the song says, and he finally transforms into an Altered beast himself. I imagine the hunter's Altered form being half deer or elf, half man, an ironic parody given he's a hunter. He still stands on 2 legs but one is shaped like a hoof, half his face splits open and elongates into an elk skull barely covered by skin, sharp teeth unlike those of an herbivore, and red, glowing eyes. One arm sharp and covered in claws, the other, his human side, holding his gun. He goes back into the fray, even though it's pointless at this point. He's lost his humanity. He doesn't feel anything. He *is* the Altered Beast, and he ends up simply becoming part of the original beast itself as it foretold. The Altered Beast claims the last animal it was missing from its twisted and contorting collection of bodies - a human. The hunter. And so the cycle continues again the next time a hunter tries to claim the Altered Beast as a trophy.
I did similar, but I had monsters called the Altered Beast because of the similarities. I did, however, use the lines in between from the narration as a warrior poet's writings. Trying to see how much King Gizzard I can use before a player goes, "Wait a minute...!"
The part starting at about 10:15 on here is probably my favorite, both times its done. I love the picking patterns in the guitars while Stu is singing the same melody.
I was simply looking for Altered Beast [video game] videos when I came across this absolute banger. Shame there's no relation but I'm still seeing it as a win. 😆
6:25 - What harm could only a mortal like you do? I am the golden wolf and you are caribou My left hand is a knife and my right is a fork I will pull you apart like a butcher pulls pork
10:50 - Hair on my skin, and I'm feeling beastly Feel it trickle in, a new life with me I see you, and I can see right through I see you, and I will take you to my Altered World
I love when bands write such relatable material
Werewolf gameplay in Skyrim goes wild with THIS GEM
I'M JUST NOW PLAYING SKYRIM AS A WEREWOLF AS I LISTEN TO THIS BOP! 🗣

Thelonious monk here, tool jajouka
IOW, I'll trust your judgment. Maybe I'll attempt to verify next listen🤣🦎
Very cool thanks
Omgg this is way too crazy!! I couldn’t even 😂🙈
CRUSTY BREAD 🍞🤯🍞
There's also a callback where they mention soggy bread in act 3

I swear this could fit right into Nonagon Infinity...
Cause it can
people vultures also perfectly fits before Lord of Lightning
As soon as the dust settles, you can see. A new world in place of where the other one would be.
Hell yes
Best one on the album imo
this and murder is an imposible
decision for me
Would disagree, but for me it’s a close second, so I respect your opinion
IMO lord of lightning is just a liiiiiittle better
I’m gonna make a dnd campaign w the altered beast as the main villain

I started throwing altered beasts into my campaign as soon as I heard this song. It's hilarious that we all had same thought.
@@octoartstuff that’s awesome
I had a character based on Han-Tyumi
@@cenasux What race was it? Vomit?

The entire story gives me mad eldritch horror vibes. Even the album cover monster looks like something that could have came from a Lovecraft story.
Shockingly little love for the video game here.
I was simply looking for Altered Beast [video game] videos when I came across this absolute banger. Shame there's no relation but I'm still seeing it as a win. 😆
I think the lyrics of this whole piece are very inspired by the game so I'd say there is pretty big connection
King gizzard made an a song about manbearpig
Only half man half bear, not half pig
They're kinda known for doing that
ITS BACK
I like the synths at 2:26
It’s my fav part cause of how sinister it sounds
6:25 - What harm could only a mortal like you do?
I am the golden wolf and you are caribou
My left hand is a knife and my right is a fork
I will pull you apart like a butcher pulls pork
but... that's not how you hold a knife and fork 😮
truly eldritch!
10:50 - Hair on my skin, and I'm feeling beastly
Feel it trickle in, a new life with me
I see you, and I can see right through
I see you, and I will take you to my Altered World
Masterpiece!
My favourite one
Pretty sure i took a train up to glassgow one day, and heard this in a record shop, ace.
Temazo que te vuela la peluca !🤯
This album gets a lot of hate
But this whole section is some of my absolute fav Gizz material
Heavy, dark, but also very campy and silly
Aguante locoooo
