I got my first 3D printer a few days ago and had seen this video a few months ago when I got my own Armada Megatron, so the first thing that came to mind was this upgrade kit. I just finished installing it and it absolutely saved this figure for me. I was so disappointed when I first got him because of the stock shoulder joints. I printed everything in silver PETG and after a little bit of sanding it all fits great and doesn't even look out of place. Thank you for designing this!
I just got this kit in the mail today, and while it was difficult to figure out installation (I actually needed to cut a portion of the peg on the red parts off so it actually fit), the added articulation it gives Megatron is more than worth it in my eyes. He's just such an amazing figure that was only hindered by that one absence of articulation, and this kit remedies that so perfectly why retaining his transformation. It can feel fragile at times, I admit, but I am genuinely happier with the kit than without, and for twelve bucks it's more than worth it to have this figure given the dynamic range he deserves. You did an amazing job on this kit, dude, especially since it doesn't make his shoulders too wide like the other upgrade kit on ebay. I'll be buying it again once the Galvatron repaint comes out, I can assure you.
Glad to have this one the way. Legit, the shoulders are the only thing I don't like about this guy, and I don't have the way to print rubber at my place currently.
This is such a brilliant kit that makes an already good toy way better, and I appreciate the disassembly guide and warnings a ton. I'm only worried how well those small rubber parts would hold up with such big parts and usage though, otherwise amazing job!
I've just ordered one of these kits at time of writing, and I'm looking forward to my Megatron being able to actually pose. I'll definitely be coming back here for a second viewing once it arrives.
Got my kit today... Figure went from a disappointment to top 5 material! That extra shoulder movement is exactly what he needed! Great Job Sam! Cheers!
Just installed the kit an, a few seconds testing with it I already love it, though there is one thing I will say to people thinking about this. There is one screw on the abdomen area, if you are looking at him from the back it's the bottom right hand side(his right as well) that is tricky to get to given how the tank turret move. The turret blocks access to the screw, you can kind of position the turret to where there is a small enough gap to fit something in, but you are going to need a long thin screwdriver to get to it otherwise you are going to have a hard time. I ended up pseudo breaking the figure and pulled the screw head right through the hole. Now the abdomen still holds together and I can hardly notice the tiny gap left behind thanks to the other three screws holding it together. And update as I'm writing this, I noticed a bit on the right shoulder has already started to break but I THINK it's going to hold on decent enough. But I guess that's to be expected with 3D printer stuff. Still even with my experiences aside I still think this kit is worth it and honestly taking the figure apart is not awful as long as you have the right tools for the job unlike me and are careful with putting the parts together.
What am excellent video! I wish ALL instructional videos were this clear and precise! FYI. I don't even have this toy and wasn't going to get it but this has seated me as I always loved this Megatron design! Have a comment, like and subscribe
Excellent stuff, the Legacy Laser Prime could also use something like that. I like my Transformers beefy anyways, so the extra shoulder width doesn't bother me one bit.
I unfortunately don't know how fixes for some figures could be done, but one I'm curious about is Laser Prime/Scourge/Toxitron. Those shoulders are just awful in every sense, but so much of the assembly would need to be replaced or modified to an absurd degree to fix him.
Got my kit today, got it together ok ,,,,,, not bad my friend. Goes together well, I did have to remove the little tab but no issue. My only concern is the durability. 3D prints aren't as sturdy as injection molding but we'll see how it goes. Good job great design.
Really hoping you do another run of selling printed copies of the kit on ebay! I just finally picked up Armada Megs on substantial discount and would really love the upgrade but don't have access to a 3d printer. Plus Galvatron is coming as well.
Almost getting nervous at how that rubber piece attached, I thought that shoulder was gonna dangle on by that piece of rubber. Glad that there's a reinforced plastic swivel sandwiching the rubber 😂🤣
Yeah so v1 when I was just making it for myself that's how it worked, I didn't expect it to be quite as floppy as it was so I reworked it. Kept the rubber for extra long term stability
It’s a good build but it appears I’ve run into a major issue of the joint itself crumbling after a few weeks. Could be because it had to cross the Atlantic but still… Anything can be done to strengthen the plastic (not that this set is being sold on eBay anymore)
Do you have any advice at all on removing the screws in the back of the abdomen? The tank turret is very much in the way, I'm finding it kind of impossible...
@@edpirrie5139 i managed to unscrew it myself since then. The biggest thing is you need a small screwdriver obviously, but one with a tip that isn't so thin that it won't grip to the screw easily: the bigger the tip, the better grip it will have on the screw. For example, the one I used is labeled "3.0x50mm", as a reference. The best way to go at the screw that I found is by lifting up Megatron's black block on the left of his body, so it's right under his arm instead of his pec. Then go at it from the gap produced.
Just bought one today and was a little disappointed by the shoulder range. Its still a cool looking figure, but the transformation seems too basic. But maybe that just me. Missed the chance to buy this particular kit, but hopefully this other one I bought will work.
Absolutely solid kit! Feel like the torso slider to bring the turret around to the front is somehow locked in place now, though-- any idea how I've managed to do that?
@@sammakestoys9223 Figured it out! When I reassembled the torso I had the central shaft (with the hips, etc) facing the wrong way. quick disassembly/reassembly later and everything is golden.
Not as bad an installation as other people have made it out to be but getting all those screws out was tedious, especially with Hasbros' shitty ones that tend to round easily. Was worth the buy though, a much needed point of articulation and love how my Megs can pose now. Fantastic work my dude👌
@@RADZone7 I got lucky using patience and force to slowly get them to turn back into place. They strip because they're shit, soft metal so you might be able to press the divet back into the head of the screw a bit to get some resistance to turn.
Question, would it not work if I print the rubber pieces to plastic instead? I don't have 3D printer but there are Printing services here and they only have plastic
Rubber is absolutely not required, plastic only is fine, but the rubber is there to ensure long lasting stability. You may need to tighten it if it's just plastic unless you're using ABS or PETG
I am at a loss as to how you removed the lower right hand screw on the waist panel. My offset tools are too wide, and my jeweler straight screwdriver is too long. How did you do it?
So I don't know a lot about resin printing other than it has worse wear and impact resistance. I use filament myself but resin might work depending on which resin
@@sammakestoys9223 Thanks for the info! I see that there are some resins advertised as ABS-like (so hopefully less brittle and a bit more resilient). I'll give one of those a go
I would love to buy this from you, but I don't do Ebay. If you can find a way to accept credit cards (and if the kit wasn't too expensive to ship to Japan), I would be all over this.
Thanks for doing what a multi billion dollar corporation apparently couldn't.

That's awesome, man! If I ever get the Armada Megs I'll definitely have to get this upgrade kit for him.

Agreed, but I wonder about the rest of the alt mode
There is a 3d printed joint file you can get on Cults 3d
Just did this. The screws in the midriff are different lengths, the shorter ones go in the top. That's why you have plastic damage
Next paycheck I'm ordering this upgrade kit, and other kits to improve the look of this toy.
This is awesome. I Just ordered the set, I can't wait to make this amazing figure even better
The kits so wonderful. Jusr be sure to slightly wear the red rubber bits down just a hair.
This is amazing, instant buy from me! You need to do this for every TF kit with similar shoulder issues haha

Damn amazing work dude, thank you so much for creating this kit and making so simple to install and user friendly ^-^
this is really impressive work
Will you be restocking this in the future? 🙂
Can we get another run of these please? I really need some!!

Hi Sam, the eBay link no longer works. Is there any way you're still selling them? I don't have a 3D printer to print my own.
Sam, you're doing Primus' work.
Think this guy has as many screws as TR Trypticon does! Ordered the kit, looking forward to having the ability to pose him nicer

is there a special screwdriver for stuff like this? because I am just stripping screws left and right

Glad you dig the kit. It's likely just due to over tightening certain screws when reassembling, otherwise not entirely sure

How do you get to the bottom right screw? The turret assembly gets in the way
Do one for legacy scourge/legacy laser optimus prime pls
Could something similar be possible for laser prime?
Any hope of a new run for Galvatron??
Im having some trouble with the screw closest to the turret. Any recommendations on how to do it?

Nope, transforms exactly the same with no hindrance

Should I worry on how long the rubber quality will last?

It should absolutely keep the shoulders solid wherever you place them

Damn just checked the lusting on ebay and its sold out. Any chance more will come in stock?
How much would it cost you to make them and ship because I would like a set too
When will this be back in stock?
What's he look like in tank mode after the upgrade?
No change, fully transforms with the upgrade kit installed
