btw this was to me, the best Bucking Billy Ray video I’ve seen. They always entertain but this one entertained at a complete level. Edit was clever, Content was awesome. Character/personality was ridiculous/hilarious. . .and yet, simple, wholesome fun. You are an entertainer. You were born to teach and inspire on whatever stage is available. The UA-cam stage, your current one, but there’ll be more.

Buckin, your vids never fail to put a smile on my face. My dad taught the flick to my brother and I when we were youngsters. Works really great when the wood is frozen really hard - it just flies apart. If dad caught us being careless he'd threaten to make us split standing in a washtub.

Spencer McGinty yea, I heard about t before and tried it a few years back. It never worked for me. After watching buckin have great success I gave it another try. Works great! Now I just use my beater axe instead of my nice splitting maul.

FishFind3000 good for you buddy!! I’d much rather run my beat up double bit than swing a maul. I run most of my big stuff through the splitter because of how twisted up it is.

Great video! Many decades ago my dad split wood for the wood burning furnace we had back then -- ash, hackberry, red elm -- using that method. I could never master it. Dad could do it one handed while I resorted to a maul and steel wedges. He milked cows by hand and had some impressive hands and arms.

Glad you put up this video, my dad showed me how to split wood with an axe 60 some years ago. You're right, it does work best with a double bit, that's all we had when I was growing up. Dad kept one edge sharp enough to shave and I knew better than get that edge in the dirt, the flick method, (never heard it called that before) helped keep the axe out of the dirt. That method is easy once learned and even works with a maul.

I've split a fair amount of wood with a hydraulic splitter and how fast you go through this stuff with a regular ol' axe is astounding. If I get the opportunity to split more in the future I'm giving this a go. Thank you for your time!

Thanks fir the tips, Canadienne fella. I'm getting better luck now chopping on soft ground with a double bit than I did b4 on concrete with a chopping block and using a splitting maul. My luck now to be spending 6 months in a dougfir thicket on the Oregon coast, doing some landscaping and "thinning" . Axes getting some exercise "Axercise".

Great Exercise for the body and the Brain. It's like moving meditation to me.
Dude I throw axes, too. One in each hand from 21 ft out. Single ax longest consistent throws from 42-45 ft.
Both single and double headed. My favorite is a Montgomery Wards Power-craft double bought in the late 40's

I will be going through the day and all of a sudden something comes over me and I tell myself, "It's time for a shot of Billy Ray." So I come into the house, turn on UA-cam and watch a video or two of Billy Ray, and I'm good to go again. Don't know how else to explain it????

Thanks again for ANOTHER great video Buckin'. Got an axe question. I'm way-more than just stoked to have my 4lb US axe head in the que to become Buckin' Special , but I know I'm not the only one curious who we could support and send a head to for a Shabango Axe? If I had the Buckin' Special and a Shabango Axe at the same time, I'm pretty sure I could conquer all the gnarly oak rounds -and even the politicians- down my way in Northern California. What to do? Maybe I could pay a bit more, and you could pay a "royalty" to the inventor of the Shebango Axe, and be "licensed" to produce them for the subscribers here too? I want me a Shebango too!!!! I'm envious of your Shabango! Who else wants a Shabango?? What to do Buckin'??? Thank you. P.S. August, it was your "Unboxing The Buckin' Special" that brought me here to this great place, and special family in the woods. Thank you.

BUCKIN! I want to build a double bit axe for splitting. Like you I enjoy axe's chainsaws and the simple things in life. So friend give me an example of a good Double bit axe and how to choose the handle length. Love win's

how tall are you friend and do you have a fair bit of experience throwing one around these thing are helpful to know advising someone ,, but personally a 33'' handle is an ok length try to find ahead with a not so thin profile as it can stick and not split you want it sharp and then to spread wood. keep an eye out

Flickaroon maybe? I am nice and kind Buckin... hahaha. The flick method is worth to try. That Buckin character is one flicker isnt he. Cool too. I'm looking forward to that beast of an axe we decided us for making. I just had to make some down payments... hahaha. I need a heavy one for my collection. Then I have axes for a century to come :D Have a lovely day people. Make sure to hit that thumbs up. Love from Norway. Mort
