I want to attend events like this one day, as time and money allow.

I’ll pick you up in my plane, let’s go to all of em. I need a dance partner.

tropicthndr I wish I could know for sure whether you are serious or not, and whether you’re a trustworthy person. It’s so scary meeting people online because you just never know. I’ve met some awesome people online, but also have run across some creeps by accident. Lol.
I’ve needed a reliable, dedicated dance partner for nearly nine years. I live in a rather small place. There are literally no professional male dancers anywhere in my area. We have a couple female pros who travel into town and provide group lessons for our small ballroom club, but that’s about it. The pickings are slim with regards to ANY of the arts in my area, but male dancers are highly coveted and even fought (yes, FOUGHT) over where I come from. We have an overwhelming number of talented lady dancers compared to the overall number of male dancers we have. 😭😢
Our club is growing, but I just don’t see the dance scene getting to this level anywhere near me geographically. I’d damn near give a piece of my soul to be able to compete at this level, but I doubt that will happen for me. I’m not being all “pitiful me” or anything, as I do have a wonderful life as a wife and mom, small business owner, general weirdo, and avid social dancer. I’m just being realistic: I likely won’t be in a good enough financial place to afford to compete until I’m probably too old to compete. Lol. I love dancing so much. It’s ingrained in every fiber of my being. And the sad thing is, I’ve been told since the very beginning when I started dancing, nearly nine years ago, that I would be good in competition. I love it so much.
I can’t tell you current events like I probably should be able to, I have no idea what insane thing is going on in politics right now, and I’m rather clueless when it comes to what’s happening in other news, except dancing. I can name ten male and ten female WCS dancers without even trying. I’ve been watching these kinds of WCS videos since I first fell in love with the dance, nearly nine years ago. I know I keep repeating that, but it boggles my mind how long I’ve been dancing, and how far I HAVEN’T gone with it. I’ve been getting the sense that it’s nearly too late for me dance-wise lately, and it’s killing me.
I’ve looked into competitions nearest me, and I can’t afford to travel and enter myself, much less pay for someone to participate with me, which I’ve been lead to believe is the accepted way to enter competitions when you have sought out a partner; you make it worth their while financially, as well as financing your own way through the loops. Since I’m technically an amateur level dancer, I’m pretty sure I would be the one paying. Lol.
Sorry to send you a novel-length response, you just touched on something that happens to be a difficulty of mine, which is finding a dance partner. I have gone the last nine years repeating a pattern when it comes to dancing: I start dancing regularly, I learn a new thing or two, then I get bored with my group because none of them are as dedicated to furthering their abilities as I am, so then I stop going for a while because I get dancily depressed. It’s a frustrating situation for me, and has been for quite some time, and your comment sounded anecdotal the way you said it. Let me just hop on my plane and come get you, kind of thing. Lol. Hard to tell if you’re being serious or sarcastic. 🤣

So interesting, we shall talk and figure out your issues. If you know sonya, she came from a place where she didn't have a partner for a long time and trained on her own to the allstar level, after that, allot of it is training with the peolle youre going to be competing with

Wandering Westie My main issue is geographic location, I’m convinced. Ha. I don’t know Sonya, but it sounds like she did awesome! I’ve been watching (stalking, actually) JnJ vids, routine vids, lesson vids, etc. of WCS for a long time. I’ve taught myself a lot about the dance just from watching these kinds of videos over the years, so I can totally believe that Sonya taught herself to the all star level. How cool!

@@BlueBird_V Well where is your location? What city? Maybe I know some people around. We have a wanderingwestie facebook group that helps connect dancers.
Go check out Sonya Dessureault, I think she also does online coaching. You can learn from videos but there is so much intentionality and thought missed, If you do want to grow I'd highly recomend finding a coach that can teach remote. I know Tashina, Jordan + Tat, Hugo + Stacy, Sonya and Stephen white, all teach remotely or have online classes, Benji and a bunch of others also have great DVD's and you could learn lots from there.
