Top marks to everyone concerned. This is a fantastic route. Great scenery, with gentle gradients. Whether you are a local, a visitor or whatever, this is a must do.
A remarkable achievement which would be impossible in the U.S. (getting 160 landowners and lawyers on board). A lovely place, next trip to Westport I will give it a go. Nicely filmed also.
Well, it helped that there was a railway track there formerly, other projects are not so lucky...www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/dublin-galway-cycle-route-thrown-into-doubt-362365.html
The landowners gave permission for the Greenway to be developed on their land, but asked for a fence to be put up as a barrier between the public and the grazing animals on either side of it - for safety (and insurance) for both the people using the Greenway and the animals. The Greenway route is quite wide though, there is plenty of room for two-way walking / cycle traffic plus a grass verge on either side before the fencing…. And it’s better than being trampled by a bull ;-)
As in racer bikes no.bit the bike me and my class were on we're hybrids close to a racer.and they were sound the bike they have there are great the one I was on was about week old which was great.becarefull some parts have loads of loose stone at the edge of the path I nearly lost it at one stage it's fine.by the way I was going like a cunt down the trail I mean fast.and don't go over that little tit of a blue bridge to fast.you could do damage to the bike its steep coming on to it and off it.
Used the Greenway whilst on hols. Absolutely fantastic for all ages!
