Totally agree! Gear acquisition syndrome (GAS) is certainly one manifestation of the addiction we all know, love and are addicted to talking about...that is foil brain. But fear not, there are so many other facets of foil brainia...such as gear tuning or "dialing it in" as the kids say...the endless summer that is scrolling the foil feeds for that 1 tip that will help you "crack the code" or catching up on the latest video devoted to the relationship between foils and weed. GAS may pass, it may stay, it may waft away. But take heart that there is so much more to this affliction than GAS.
What? You made me curious and I am quite clueless. What’s the relationship between foils and weed?
Excellent and so true. Being conscious of this addiction is a good thing. Thanks Marvino.
That was my thought as well. I am glad we share the same perspective!
Welcome to the club! As 30 years windsurfer, hoarder (more than 50 boards, 30+ sails and everything else) , with one foot in kitesurfing and just starting in wing and foil in all of that... you really make some correct thoughts we are all aware but it is nice to be reminded of! Thanks!
you are quite deep into it😅
I agree, the stabilizer is an equally important part of any foil upgrade, it's not all about front wings. Kidding aside, this video was refreshing to see, even if I feel somewhat targeted.
haha, I didn`t even think about stabilizers yet 😜
Thanks for your thoughts - they really meet my approach as a consumer and my general lifestyle! I am still pumping a 2021 Gong Allvator XXL and I am happy because of all the greats experinces in the lakes - but now it is really time to go for a Sirus 😅🎉
that`s great that you used the Allvator XXL that long and didn`t fall for the temptation to buy so many frontwings. I really wish you lot`s of fun with the Sirus!
Totally Agree! For many brands an additional factor is the low supply & long waiting lists, which encourages you to reserve the new gear earlier than you would if the material was always available.
that`s an interesting thought. I am not sure, if they do it on purpose or if it is just due to bad planning or still problems with the supply chain.
Love this video, very recognizable, I'm already starting to challenge my behavior to want a new foil 'continuesly', of course with good rational insight (as much as possible). 😂
I am glad, I am not the only victim of that sickness😜. We always find so many reasons to need more foils😂
I dig you !
from an article i found on internet "When we make a purchase, our brain releases endorphins and dopamine. For some, this momentary pleasure can lead to compulsive shopping, as the instant reward and motivation to re-experience the 'rush' starts to outweigh self-control and practical financial considerations."
Often for me the self control part is my wallet !
I have another trick , i make extensive market research before buying thing and guess what , as it's often impulsive buying due to a marketing vid or some review the market research usualy kill this purchasing impulse and the fact often buying new gear doesnt make sense after the market research, most of the time !!
On my wing i reduced it to one wing because it's a consumable, im gonna restraint myself to the minimum gear i can , i have 2 foil right know and i dont want more !
That makes very much sense. I also want to reduce gear to the minimum, because not only money is the problem, but also space in the van. Especially, when you also kiteboard, -surf and kitefoil.
My strategy is never buy anything on first sight, but think about it for weeks and months and if I still want it then, then I consider buying it. But I still want too much stuff :D
You are so right! I thought a lot about your comment! I am also a victim. But to make the best out of it, can you tell us, after you tested almost the whole range. Which foil do you suggest to start? and which one do you suggest to make the best shortcut? to buy only two!
I would recommend the Sirus XL or XXL to start with dockstarting. You can do quite much with it. With strong wind, you will need a smaller Frontwing to go winging or prone surfing.
I agree, but with foiling the gear helps you get to next levels. And sense its such a small sport it is hard to buy the right gear. Because you just cannot try it out from a friend down the street. Kind of trial and error thing.
@@vanceduke5196 I know, I also bought a Frontwing that I regret buying.
You are so right..! Although I think I just need another Stab... lol
Have you pumped with an aluminium mast before your hm72? was there a big difference?
Yes, I pumped the 85 Alu and you can do it for sure, but it will be slightly wobbly and less effective or precise in piloting.
@@FoilingPastor I did a little video comparing the two... With the GAS in mind, would you still buy the carbon mast?
@@mattonfoil nice video, you did. I would always buy carbon. Especially, the new one is interesting, because it is thinner and will therefore have less drag
man,,, very important video ! I am sending it to my freinds ! we all have the GAS ! i think this is where we should say STOP
thank you for your encouraging feedback. I usually try to let at lot of time pass when I want to order something to see, if I really need that or if it is just a craving ;)
Easy to say owning so many wings;)! Maybe you just say this now, because you realize good equipment only brings you to a certain point and not further. The rest is practice
I guess you made a good point that even the best equipment has some limitations. I absolutely love the Sirus XXL for longdistance pumping, but carving with it is not really possible.
I guess I made this video to convince myself of not buying so many frontwings anymore. I am not sure, if making the video helps my addiction😅
😂😂 yes and once you on the beach you don’t know what to use… 🤣
That would indeed a luxury problem. Maybe the advantage of not having a beach in Switzerland is that I always know what Frontwing to take😂
true story...but so you build your expeience and knowledgebase and all your content!) of coures perfect will be to have rental acces to all that new toys or be a test monkey (i belive gong hast such position) .......my solution is - to sell one old before or right after buying something new
So far as I know, Gong is not renting anything, maybe private owner or enterprises do, but not Gong as a company. I asked them to come to their headquarter to be able to test all gear in all sizes, but they sadly declined.
I know, I would need to sell much faster, but I want to test longer and in switzerland there are also not so many gong owners than in France or other countries.
