Go to your local feed mill, buy 2 50# bags of trace minerals, 1 50# stock salt, 50# dicalcium phosphate....mix up 200# for about $70 ...
Dan , Love ya man , have been a D&DH subscriber for 15 years or more , but , when you shake up a gallon jug of what ever, shake it up and down to activate the settling on the bottom , not sideways . Better yet , turn the jug upside down , then shake vigorously .
Minerals do play somewhat of a roll in rack growth but it mostly is in the genetics.
genetics are important but like in my area that there are next to zero mineral sites plays a huge roll. cant know size potencel if they never get enough minerals. are chance to get older.
Here's a tip for your mineral site: When making your site, after taking the leaves back, make a bowl shape hole in the middle of the site. That way your minerals leach into the soil deeper........
good. Thanks a bunch for this.
Didn't know Walter White was so knowledgeable about deer! haha great video, learned alot!
That. Was. Very. Good. Good. Job
You can do the same thing with two 50 lbs bags of general purpose mineral and one 50 lbs bag of salt, mix them together, and pour onto your chosen mineral site. It's cheaper too. I can buy 50 lbs bags of mineral and salt at my local co-op for $6 or $7 a bag.
I do a similar mix with great results. 1 part dicalcium phosphate and 2 parts trace mineral salt. Works like a charm (and cheap) !
Love y'all's videos, but qdma has done a study about minerals, and they don't make a bit of difference. The deer are mainly attracted to the salt in the minerals because of the high water content in their food during the spring and summer.
Still good to get inventory.
Isn't stuff like this how cwd and blue tongue are transferred, baits on the ground?

How often if ever, should you reapply the Deer Cain?
30 days, with the powder that you mix with water.
How do you know those two deer antler examples are the same age without examining the teeth ?
+Big Red Dog we actually did examine the teeth, BRD, that's how we knew. Thanks for watching!
That and if they know the deer from trail cam pics, they'll know how old it is and which deer it is when they find the sheds.
Can you use deer corn to get them to come into the mineral site?
Josh Woodley Yes, the deer don't know what brand of food you are using so I just use corn attractant from my feeder because when the feeder goes off it's like a dinner bell.
Yep...put on a stump..
so r deer going to come here on a basis like if u had a food plot and could u keep up with the schedule they use enough to hunt over the mineral site
THE BMB Yes definitely. I use deer cane, they show up daily.
I have tried deer cane and never had any luck
50 pound big 6 mineral and a 50 pound salt block. I've tested them all and had my best results with those 2 licks.
Best thing i have found is a combination of trophy rock and 465 the crushed up version. They dominate it, they eat the dirt around it. Also if has so many minerals beyond salt that they seek it out more.
Deer cane didn't work for me at all.
My state outlaws salt licks or blocks entirely. I was looking at bags of minerals for cattle, little if any salt, I am thinking that MIGHT be a legal option. Don't ask, don't tell I say.
How do you know for certain that they are both 3.5 years old..? Did you count their rings..?
The age was based on tooth wear analysis. Thanks for watching!
They look like sheds did they loose a tooth also.
And.... That big 3.5 yr old buck did NOT get that way from 1 season of minerals...
How often will you need to add more of the mineral mix, roughly? Thanks
We freshen up our sites every other month(using about 5 pounds)
Unfortunately hunting has gone like everything else in the world. It's all about the MONEY!!
You can make your own... $50 for 200lbs
How often do you refresh the mineral site?
Bryan Sellers yearly.
Every 35 days and not before. Directions on back of the jug.
Brad Quall get a trophy rock, last about 3months and deer absolutely love them.
I tried a trophy rock and put it out in march in several spots miles away from each other..the deer where i hunt didnt care for them. Not sure why. The deer where we hunt only perfer certain mineral blocks as well. Reasons not sure of.. I mix one gallon of corn , a half gallon of oats , and a half gallon or acorn rage or apple pellets.. The deer go nuts over this mixture.
Brad Quall that’s pretty wild, the deer in my area love the trophy rock. I just put it on a big stump about 2ft in height and corn all around the area and they wore the rock out quick
How looks like Stone Cold Steve Austin no cap
LOL ... now Dan will have a bloated ego for the rest of the day.
Hunting on State land is against the rules but I know a couple of guy's do this I rather follow the rules than get a ticket lose my crossbow or rifle arm , I been Hunting next too a Hunt-Club and their are a lot of Deer in the Area I am near a Natural No so big of a Stream but that's about a 1000 yards away where I hunt at , If I have the extra Money which doesn't happen tp me unless I can get some investors too buy the Land that has Bear Elk, Deer And about anything you can think about I 'm not sure if there are any Wolves but if they are and if I ever has seen one or two or in
Just because they eat doesn't mean its doing anything. The 50 lb bags of trace mineral and salt from the co-op aren't the answer either if you want to see real world results. Learn to read a label and find a product built for deer. Mineral supplements do work, but you have to use the right stuff. None listed in this video will do anything but be an attractant.
So, what works? What's "built" for deer? Pay more for same minerals with a picture of a deer on it?
+AshtangaBoy I use RAKS Mineral. It's specifically designed for deer. Deer antlers are made up mostly of Protein, calcium, and phosphorus. The protein will be acquired by browse, food plots, supplemental feed, ect. But most parts of the country are lacking in phosphorus in the soil. If it's not in the soil then it's not making it into the plants and onto the deer. This is where quality minerals can really help. There's not a product out there that has the level of calcium/phosphorus that RAKS has, and in the optimum 2:1 ratio. Also, RAKS has the micro minerals to make sure that the big ones do their job. Not many products do this. Google RAKS Mineral and check out the website.
Lol all at the cheap price of $57 a bag what a deal!
I will agree that the online shipped price is expensive.
vita-rack sucks for ohio deer because they won't touch them.
James O'Brien what is Vita Rax?
Man ole man, deer hunting has become a gimmick seems like. Not doubting this video , but it’s really pitiful how these must have items become the only factors to bagging your buck. Lol.
Nothing he has here is worth a damn....lol...all salt attractant......only trophy rock or imperial whitetail minerals. Are worth their salt..lol.
