I'm in Australia and own a Nissan Navara 3 litre D22 Dec. 2006 (first sold June 2008) ...it's done 235,000 km and has been a fantastic vehicle for me. Never yet had any mechanical problems. Runs smoothly and burns no oil. What's more there is NO rust in the body or chassis of this vehicle. When I hear all the problems others have had, particularly in the UK, I'm just so thankful that I must have got a good one.
Pete from Australia here mate, excellent info and great content in your video's. Proud owner of a D22 ZD30, and as far as I understand it has a duplex timing chain. 300K on the clock and still going strong!!
Peter Schnetler . # me2. Mine a 2004 D22 ZD30 Navara, 190,000 trouble free klm. Egr deleted and only use group 4/5 engine oil. I'm a 56 year o l d mechanic, see some really nasty late model crap on a daily basis. Shudder to think what I'll replace it with when the time comes, hoping for another 10 years out of it !!
The d22 with zd30 motor has been in Newzealand since 2002 and then in 2008 the d22 with yd25 motor came out with the black flares and black bumper and the bonet scoop.
USA Frontier/Navara D22 here been around since 1996 - 2004. But there was 3 engines available. There was the 2.4 gasoline/pertrol, 3.3 N/A gasoline/petrol, and 3.3 Supercharged gasoline/ petrol. Noticing all the differences from around the world and now knowing the issues of other versions of the d22 is pretty crazy. I'm hooked on the channel for sure!!!
Hey Des I’m from Australia ! I’ve heard and researched a lot of the issues with the d40 Navara which is what I own a 2009 Navara d40 king cab manual. I think a great video you could do is what modifications would be good to make the yd25 engine reliable. Whether it be upgrading to a double row timing chain, changing the intercooler and turbo rubber piping, remapping/tuning for more power, strengthening the chassis etc etc. if you can make a video like this I think everyone who has subscribed to you will greatly appreciate the information you know to make these engines more reliable and make these great 4x4 utility vehicles more suitable for work, towing and heavy off-road use. Kind regards Raph, from Melbourne Australia. P.s I will also send an email to you of this exact comment in the event this does not reach you. Thanks again
Great info you shared, just like to let you if you don’t already know, Nissan ran both models here in Australia D22 from 2002 to 2014 & the D40 2007 to 2015 quite sure it was he series 9. I have noticed 2009 D22 has some changes t appear to have wider flares different front grill also the rear tailgate is completely flat ( no ribs) to strengthen the panel. They might also be some minor changes in the interior as well but I’m not a expert this what I’ve noticed because I’m looking to purchase one, just trying to find the right one within my budget. It’s good to see a specialist who willing to share their knowledge to educate people cheers 👍👍👍
Wrong but right in new zealand we got the d22 in 1998 first with TD27 for 2WD & QD32 for 4WD then in 2002 they went to ZD30 for 4WD & or 2WD ones were UK spec ones (even have to look parts up for them in ER version of fast) with the direct injection YD25 but they all do the bottom end and chuck the rod out the block. Then in 2006 we started getting Spanish built D40 as a top end ute with d22 as the budget option. Then in 2007 or 2009 (can't remember which one) they changed out the ZD30 & YD25 in the D22 to the YD25 common rail like in the ute you have there for both 2WD & 4WD (plus our 2WD one went back to a Australasian spec one) then in 2010 we started getting D40 out of Thailand as the to middle specs the Spanish D40 as top spec eventually getting the 450nm engine and v6 diesel and also still getting the D22 as basic Billy bones model. Until 2015 when they were all replaced with D23. The common rail engine in our D22s run real conservative tune I think they only had 313nm or 304nm some thing like that, so the motors were really under stressed and give far less issues than the D40s especially the higher output one from Spain. when it comes to comparing Spanish D40 to thai D40 the Thai ones give far less issues overall as alot of the components are made locally in the south east Asia for example Lower ball joints serious problem on Spanish D40 for us not a issue on Thai D40 plenty of other examples. I'm glad all of our new D23s are all sourced from Thai factory. I can only image the problems you will have in the UK with Spanish built D23 dew to 3rd party sourced European componentry.
2008 was when the common rail D22 came out. 2007 was when they stopped D22 production in japan. common rail D22 yd25 is 100kw engine vers the previous ZD30 engine which was 110kw. big reason is that they didn't fit the variable turbo so had to keep them tuned low to pass emissions. considering they where competing against 130+ kw utes, its a wonder they sold any.
I agree about the Thai D40 being a much better ute. We have had pre-2010 Spanish D40 STX models, all gave grief. Now our 2011 - 2014 Thai ST models are a dream compared to the older ones. Even clutches and brakes last longer! The worst we have had was a 2012 at just shy of 200k's needed the EGR replacing. We won't be getting the D23 though, the rear suspension is crap at carrying loads, way to soft.
keep in mind D40's nissan retuned them to reduce the clutch problems. fair few unhappy people over that. frankly all double cabs are crap for carrying loads. the load is all in the wrong place so most people over load the hell out of them. if you want to carry loads get a king cab or single cab, which also have leaf springs.
I’m in Canada, and these truck are called Nissan frontier and they came out in 2001 and they stop the production in 2004.Also the engine is a vg33e with a timing belt... not even a chain.
Hi Des, I have chatted to you a couple of times on the phone, Vincent from Northern Ireland!!! Hope you are all well. Just watching another one of your videos and I think I might have the same engine a mix with d22 and d40 and when i go to look for settings on line i cant find anything, on the log book it's a d22 di 2.5L 2006, on the engine block yd25 has duplex chain and egr beside intake manifold and a aluminium rocker cover,. Is my log book right and if so what settings do I go by ?? As I need the torque settings for the cylinder head and the method please. Anything would help thanks Des, 👍
I got that same van and its 5 years this year, you right i when by the diesel engine shop and they told me i have to change the timing chain. My van only has 56000km
The only smart person here is des, he's sorted these problems out and letting us back yard home mechanics know what the issues are and how to fix them, thanks des for your help I'm saving up to buy a nissan hopefully by then they have sorted there quality issues.
Hello! I recently bought a 2007 Navara D40, 2.5dCi 171hp. Truck runs well, though break pedal is quite soft, doesn’t feel right. When putting the ignition on, the pedal is nice and hard, but with the engine running, it goes soft, not much resistance. Any ideas what to look for? Cheers!
Ive got an R50 pathy, 186000ms. Done the dizzy and starter, first ownr did the radiator upgrade. Been thinking about a D40. Not so sure now... Seems to me the vg33 is a tough old nail compared to their diesels. Have you had experience with the auto not engaging the converter lockup function? This has just recently occured. It drives fine auto changing up n down nicely etc, just the lock up doesnt lol. So indtead of 1700rpm at 80kph its about 2200. Is it gonna be expensive?
Oh yeah its dual fuel. Twice now its coughed, farted, pig rooted then stopped while on lpg. Wont restart on either log or petrol...Wait an hour n it starts ok on petrol. Seems fine again. Im running it on petrol only at the moment as its never given that issue on petrol. Im kinda fond of the old beast to tell the truth, not sure i wanna part with it, but certain i dont want to throw cash at it either - did enough of that last year when the dizzy shit itself.
Hi good day I have a 2005 Nissan Navara d22 4x4 zd30 ax 3.0 and the clutch is very hard so I replaced the clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing and it’s still hard. is it that those van clutches are naturally hard or is there another factor that I can change to fix this problem
Renault said NISSAN NEEDS TO BE CAUTIOUS OF OVER-QUALITY. DOES IT MATTER IF THE. EHICLE LASTS 6 OR 7 YEARS? NO BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER WONT STILL HAVE THE CAR. (google it for the exact quote).
The D22 isn’t a new vehicle in Australia. We have had them here same time as every other country. The early ones had the 3.0 diesel. It may surprise you but Australia also has the NP300. I got rid of my D22 after watching your channel. Kept thinking it would blow up. A vey unrefined vehicle but you get what you pay for.
i have a nissan 2014 d22 with 2.4 gas engine. now i have A special place in my heart for d22 but i not exaggerate when i say is the bast pic up you can buy.
Im in australia in melbourne and i had a d22 zd30 engine 2004 everything was good upon i made 300,000ks on the engine and the cylinder head was cracked and started overheating
I'll soon be in the market for a farm work truck. It is not going to be a Nissan. Apart from the engines, the coil rear end is not up to towing 3.5 tons with a high and variable towaball vertical load [14 ft Ifor Williams triple axle livestock trailer full of cattle] or for stability with a full ton in the back of a crew cab model. On top of which the chassis rails are still so full of big stamped holes that it looks like Swiss cheese. Compare it to the HiLux chassis. The rear trailing arms are made of very light gauge pressed steel channel section that hasn't been made to last either. All in all, it and the Mercedes clone just don't look as if they are built for serious work or serious long term work. Luckily they have plenty of competition from rival brands. My current vehicle is a Ranger and its weak point is the engine. The 2.2 is sluggish and drinks like a fish, but there should be new 2.0 engines available by the end of this year and within 12 months they should be offering the Lion V6 diesel from the Discovery and Range Rover cars in it. The 2.0 four should outperform the current 3.2 five cylinder model, so that would be great for me.
Denis Mbanga because they have ditched their garage and left everyone's vehicles outside parked up in a state, on the street. Left them there with no notice given to the owners, some of them damaged. No doubt this reply will be deleted by the uploader because they don't want anyone to know the truth...
Nissan or any manufacturer should never cut costs on making there vehicles especially if the quality is solid never change that. The saying goes people are dumb but a person is smart. It sounds like there are alot of dumb people in the boardroom?
Hi I like watching your videos you know a lot about nissens in the virus my Mum's got a Nissan Navara 3 litre turbo diesel 2003 D22 can you make a video of a 2003 of the turbo diesel have timing chain issues on that do they have a good mother I got told their the last of the mode is from the a 2003 and then they go up to a 2.5 th annual ones like you're talking about message me because I tried to call you on there but I can't get your number correctly right cos I don't know if it works or not but yeah so give me a message with your number on here so I can call you and we can talk about my mum's vehicles having some problems but not with the timing chain yet

tweak e. yeah they were pretty slow. Towards the end they were so cheap they competed with greatwall and foton
If thats THE "tweak" from navara.asia, i love the info you posted, learnt all my d22 mods from you.

Have you consider on apply for a CEO or CTO for nissan???? :)
Do you think nissan fixed these issues in the 2018 NP300??? I am about to get one m, but now I am thinking it! Any advice?
Great videos by the way!!!!
Aaron Quiros i got the stx in Aus done about 50k kms so far and love the rig
I agree,
Nissan went to crap and it’s getting worse since Renault. I will never buy a Renault and by default a Mitsubishi or a Nissan.

Only on the single cab version in the UK as far as I know.
