I found a copy of Cardshark last year and it has become probably my favorite book on magic. It has enough tricks in the intermediate realm that a hobbyist like myself can learn and perform with practice, along with a large number of difficult tricks and techniques to master over a lifetime of study. I just performed Psychotronic Card for my family for the first time last weekend. They were floored.
I don’t have the book yet but I have a DVD where Darwin teaches that routine. I’m going to check it out! I do Darwin’s “Appt. in Samara”. That’s one of my favorite. (I enjoy card effects that have stories, such as “Gemini Twins”).
Yes! This is the dilemma! We are constantly confronted with great close up magic... and few, if any venues or situations in which to regularly perform it. Sometimes the mere need for a table is an obstacle. I understand precisely how you felt.
Thanks for sharing this, Michael. Cardshark is also one of my favourite books on card magic. The material just can't be topped! I'm particularly fond of Four to One as an impossible, in-the-hands opener; while "From the Cellar" motivated me to master the Bottom Deal. Several years later... I'm getting closer! I have a feeling I know what routine you are going to share. I eagerly await Part II. Peace. Alex x
Hello Maestro. We will be waiting for Roberto Giobi's Stand-up Card Magic review. This pandemic has bought different approaches to performing card magic. I mean, a lot of times we have no tables to put the cards on. I myself have developed a tableless routine and that is why I'm eagerly interested in knowing your tips regarding tableless card magic. Thanks so much.
That was really awesome. For magic to seem like it’s real requires the magician to work hard and study the very best literature. When a magician does a trick that looks real and makes the audience gasp and suspend their belief in reality then you know he is a master magician ( a wizard/wizardess).But the truly best magicians are those that have the superb technique and best patter/stories to carry the audience into wonderland and those magicians are rare.I think you are one of those magicians and how lucky we are to have you.Thank you.
This video explains 100% why you are so good at what you do. I bet when you found that book you were actually furious and went off like a mad man, almost like hitting the reset button and becoming an entirely new performer. You are 100% correct about your thoughts of making the audience 2nd guess if magic is actually real. This is the only place you can achieve that true astonishment that you talk about. I appreciate the time and effort you have dedicated to your craft. It shines through so easily when you watch your acts. A person can see right away if a person has actually committed to their presentation. I can tell you that your "presentations" are fantastic. Just think, people are 100% focused on your thoughts while your setting in your house, no fancy lights, background etc. Thank you Mike!
Wow. Thank you for sharing your inner thoughts and processes. You have a tremendous depth of knowledge and experience and I feel its a huge gift that you are sharing it with us this way. Some of the things you said in this video really blew me away- and I am not a magician of any kind nor do I aspire to be. The basics of what you are talking about can apply to any one and you have a tremendous passion and economy of words to bring them to life. Thank you.
I actually just went through the book and searched for the discription you read out, to find out i already have read that effect and its just mind blowing when performed properly.
Also enjoy your videos. Love watching you in action. Hope you continue to do videos. First saw you on your Penn & Teller and become a instant fan of your.
Out of all of the books I have, this is the one I perform the most material from. Every trick is a winner. This book is fantastic, as are all of Darwin's books.
I am currently working on “The Unholy Three” and “The Sting”. At one point in time the bottom deal was the brass ring. Mastering it remains challenging but riffle stacking is definitely the Mount Everest in terms of difficulty at least for me. Riffle stacking without visual feedback as Mr. Ortiz suggests in Cardshark at first seemed like a cruel joke. But I have seen him do it and yourself as well, although unfortunately not in person. So as the quote goes-“ What man has done, man can do”...

Well done Jim. The routine is epic. Congratulations.

This book arrived on my doorstep the same day you published this video. Mind blowing.
Did you get it directly from Darwin?
superchef78 I wish I did, but they’re sold out. I scoured the Internet and eventually found a used one for sale at a hefty price.
You make me so want to read these books & I ain’t wanting to be no type of magic person at all (lol). You ROCK Mr. Vincent. I can’t wait for part 2.

These videos have been so so enjoyable (even as a willfully ignorant muggle who just wants to be dazzled), thanks for sharing them!
Thanks Michael, for your engaging and passionate presentation. I learnt a lot.
Thanks Steve, we learnt from the best ever. Alan was the greatest 🙏🏽
What a time of day to upload! I really must catch up on your videos, because I love your style.

Loving your videos Michael. So fascinating. You really are the consummate gentleman. And the best card magician I have ever seen.

You are awesome. Please show us those books on your right.
I can dig it! :D
Mr. Vincent, that Rizla paper looks awfully suspicious ;-)
Magic is not mysterious because it is impossible, but because is possible
You just made me realize I can reach another level in sleight of hand 🙏
