Finally an American with good taste. Football, rugby (instead of that boring baseball and American Football). Nice that you came to Aryeon. Most people respond to Ayreon because they are crazy about singer Floor Jansen from Nightwish. That should also be your next step. Start with Ghost Love Score ( Wacken 2013). For many fans is Floor the most versatile female singer in the world. Greetings from the Netherlands.

PS : Arjen lucassen is the master mind of this project over 80 singers , and over 30 musicians have been part of this project over the past 30 years. Ranging from Dee snider . to Bruce dickenson . Fish ( of marilion ) to floor jansen night wish . Even the narators of the albums /live shows are famous SCI-FI actors. The live shows are spoken about in hushed tones. as they are near mythical , and only 3 or 4 concerts are given . per tour , and no public anouncement or promotion is done , only via his personal face book or website . And these shows are sold out in hrs . First live show he did had 70+ different nationalities going to these 3 performances . the 2nd show had . over 80 different nationalities flying in .
He has a huge following , and many artist /performers are taking time out of their own scedule to work with him on the live concerts.
That says a lot about how well he is liked.

You are a bit over in nationalities. It was 50s for the first couple and then on the most recent ones, it was 64 nationalities (including me all the way from Australia)
But still, EPIC shows and an insane vibe in the city all weekend

Yes, these singers are on the whole album and continue the story. Ayreon makes you realise how much talent there is out there. Arjen finds the talent and brings it to you in Ayreon, everyone is at their best, both singers and musicians. Arjen writes, produces and plays guitars, base, synthesizer and keyboards. He is a musical genius.

I wouldn't write that he finds the talents. That was the case in the early days. All of those shown in the video are experienced and well-known vocalists. Floor is an exception. She started working with Arjen in 2000, when she had just released her first record and no singing lessons yet.

@@Mischnikvideos Not just in the early days, I mean who ever heard of Marcela Bovio before The Human Equation?
Or Jaqueline Govaart before The Dream Machine (she later became famous in The Netherlands and some neighbouring European countries with her band Krezip, and was one of Floor's classmates at the Rock Acadamy)
And to be fair, he worked with Barry Hay (Golden Earing) on his debut album. So I guess it's always been a mix. But on this album, yeah, they are all already succelsfull artists. Even though the bands are mostly worldfamous but only among those who are into the more alternative side of rock/metal

    • @Mischnikvideos
      @Mischnikvideos Рік тому

@@dutchladylover The Human Equation is from 2004 and was the breakthrough for Ayreon himself and landed at number 7 in the Dutch charts. Before that, Arjen was better known than Marcela because the first Ayreon albums landed in the middle of the charts. But he didn't get the big stars.
The Dream Sequencer with Jacqueline Govaert is from 2000 and even older. In terms of sales, it was a step backwards.
I don't know how he knew Barry Hay in 1995. He was already a star in the Netherlands in the 70s. The two must have known each other personally beforehand. Probably because he also worked as a studio musician and the like.
I stand by it: He took the unknown singers when he couldn't get any others.

@@Mischnikvideos Michael Mills of Toehider was not really that known, even in the prog/metal scene I think. So yeah, of course at this time Arjen was famous enough to get all the famous ones (which he thinks are good), but still he includes a Michael Mills, who almost no-one I've seen a reaction to this from has heard of.

I always like it when people discover Ayreon. The mastermind after this project is Arjen Lucassen. He is one of the greatest composers of modern times. For his projects he studies the menu of worldwide top singers that are out there and invites them to participate in his projects. And then the wonder takes place. Most of them are honoured to be asked and come. The following collaboration is a joyfull one where every artist seems to have the time of their life. The energy radiates from the podium and the worldwide public is affected and experience a drugsless high!. Arjen has a very nice character and people like to work with him very much. Exploring Ayreon will bring you a fantastic journey. Also check out an other project from him: " the gentle storm" with Anneke van Giersbergen. And as another reactor already said: Floor Jansen is the singer from Nightwish. If you have to discover them start of with Ghost love score from Wacken 2013. It will blow your mind. This symfonic metal progrock scene is interconnected musically where people respect each other and is less ego driven. And therefore it gives us the very best music out there. Happy journeys!!!!!

@@bigkevreacts I'd suggest you look at the whole concert. It is here on UA-cam as a playlist. It gives a good overview, since it was a best of show and the first offical concert in 22 years. From there you could do Into The Electric Castle live And Other Tales, where they performed a whole album live and some songs from his other projects afterwards. And next year the Blue-Ray for this year's show will come out.
Considering Arjen wrote these albums not thinking of ever playing them live, they do a great job so far with the live performances. This year was my first time seeing them live and it was an epic long weekend in Tilburg. I met many super nice people there. As cheesy as it might sound, but the Ayreon community really is a big family, including the artists.
In a nutshell: If you like this kind of music, you can't go wrong with Ayreon.
I didn't post links, because UA-cam deleted comments with links lately. But at least the Ayreon Universe live playlist should be really easy to find.
If you get any copyright issues, just contact Arjen via the homepage or on facebook. He will normaly help, since he supports reactions.
There are even really well done lyric videos to (almost?) all albums on UA-cam. Those really help to keep track of the story, if one is not watching a live performance

Most people recommend 'Everybody Dies' (live) as the next Ayreon song to do, and I would agree. It is track #3 from the same album as this song, which is track #1. Four of the same singers from this song are also in that one.
I had the good fortune to see Ayreon live last month, which required my wife and I to travel from Chicago to the Netherlands since that's the only place they perform. Probably the best concert I've ever seen!

@@bigkevreacts The cool thing about Ayreon is that all the albums sort of tie into the same story. 'The Source' (the album which this song is from) is technically the start of the story. It's about a race of humans that give control of their planet to a computer (the 'frame) to help solve an environmental catastrophe, but the computer determines that the best course of action is to eliminate the humans. Ten humans and the robot TH-1 escape the planet on the only interstellar ship they have (the 'Starblade') along with the ships crew and head to an ocean planet. The chemist creates a drug ('The Source', aka 'Liquid Eternity') that allows them to evolve into an 'aquatic race'. The drug also makes them basically immortal and allows them to communicate telepathically. The album ends with the survivors (ten plus the ships small crew) living on their new planet ('Planet Y') in relative peace, but in the final track we learn that TH-1 is becoming a new version of the 'frame deep in the ocean. The next album in the timeline, 01011001 ('Y') tells us how machines have now taken over this new planet, and the humans have basically merged with the machines are losing their emotions and sense of time. They now call themselves 'The Forever', since they are essentially ageless drones at this point. We also learn about how they seeded a comet with DNA and sent it to Earth, where it creates human life on our planet. The Forever believe they can live through us telepathically and that they may regain their emotions by doing so. Some of The Forever believe that we need to advance more quickly, and use their telepathy to give us medicine/technology, but this results in us advancing quicker than our morality can cope with. Eventually The Forever realize humanity is doomed and has to decide if they will give them the technology to reverse their past mistakes. Somewhere in the timeline sits the album 'The Electric Castle'From a summary by Arjen: "At the end of the journey those that successfully dealt with their personal demons find out that the voice belongs to an alien named 'Forever of the Stars', a member of an alien race living in a distant galaxy. These aliens created planet Earth and its people as an experiment so they could study, and hopefully one day experience emotions, as they themselves lost feelings eons ago." That's only three albums (less than half!) but I believe those three give you a solid foundation for how the story plays out. Also, I highly recommend any of the Electric Castle Live videos; They are just so fun to watch, plus John de Lancie ('Q' from Star Trek) plays the 'Forever of the Stars' character, which Arjen said he originally based on Q.

To get a feel for the music, just go on with this album. Although it is the newest one, it is also the beginning of the story that's been told along several albums. Arjen Lucassen has literally created his own universe. I'll happily join you on your journey.
Most people would recommend Everybody Dies as your next song, but there are many more on this album that sadly tend to get overlooked. It's not an Ayreon album, but has Arjen himself singing and does take place in the "Ayreon Universe". It doesn't get the love it deserves. Personally, I first found out about this immesnsely talented fellow through yet another project, Star One, Space Metal. It's songs inspired/about scifi movies & shows. I vey much enjoyed listening to them and guessing what shows/movies they are about.😅😅 I think there 3 Star One albums now?
