I bought Breath of the Wild 2 times, played it first on Wii U and later on Switch. So i guess there would be some double dippers as well, people who love the game and buy the Switch 2 at a later time.
The Mario Kart shown will only be released on NS2, because it would be used to drive sales on the new system. Games like Metroid and Pokemon were already anounced for the OG switch.
If it’s gonna be 24 racers, that’s not even going to be possible on a normal Switch even at MK8 Deluxes graphics. Nintendo can make compromises to make money and do both platforms, but I doubt it. Traditionally tho, it’s just been one Mario Kart to each console. The only exception to that is Mario Kart Home Circuit on Switch and that’s more of a technicality.

We've already seen what Bowser's Fury (open world 3D Mario Demo) and Tears of the Kindgom can do pushing the consoles to their limit in handheld mode, and the performance while very impressive and acceptable absolutely fight to maintain that 30fps on the go. Now apply that to 4 player local on the go with just the little we've seen on the Next Mario Kart so far. You still think it would be an acceptable experience on Switch 1? Especially in tabletop/handheld mode? Its unrealistic. As you said yourself, mascot kart racers on PS5 and XB Series barely look better than MK8DX because that game was ahead of the curve and optimized to the Wii U's breaking point and later reoptimized to its fullest on Switch 1 (The new Battle Mode designied for 8 Deluxe running as well as it does while looking as good as it does is a technical marble). Visually it was ahead of its time, and now the only logical improvement that matters is expanding the scope of the game while slightly improving the visuals and applying a new art style (which I love btw). The new Mario Kart game is absolutely a generational jump. The small "gap" in visuals speaks more of how crazy hard the team went when optimizing for Wii U than anything else.
All this cross generation story started from Digital Foundry. The developer which compared MK8 and MK9 said that some technical staff isn't possible to NSW1 without frames drops and other limitations. I prefer MK9 as NSW2 exclusive because means that developers focus only to NSW2 and also means less hands (important for other first parties Nintendo games ) as not exist NSW1 version.

Assuming it's technically possible, I think making _Mario Kart 9_ (or whatever it's called) cross gen would be a mistake. It worked fine for _Breath of the Wild,_ sure. But mostly, only us hardcore Nintendo gamers bought the Wii U. Damn near everybody has a Switch. Even at the end of its life cycle, the Switch's massive install base could canabalize some Switch 2 sales, at least initially, if one of the biggest (presumed) launch games is also coming to the original Switch.
On the other hand it would give the game massive sales on both plattforms with some double dippers too that first stay on Switch 1 and later move to Switch 2. I bought BotW 2 times, i played it first on Wii U.
No way it will be on Switch 1... no way... it wouldn't even be able to perform/ run well on Switch 1... the 24 racers per course, the extra large courses, new graphical effects... it just ain't happening...

This is exactly what I’ve been saying since seeing the reveal. The Switch 1s extra power over the WiiU hasn’t been used for a Mario Kart yet,and that 9s engine is made to run on the Switch 1 to be upscaled to the Switch 2!

I think you'll find the prospect of Local 4 Player Split Screen BATTLE Mode of all things with 24 characters (counting the other 20 character CPUs) all launching items at each other on screen a pretty compleing case as to why you wont be seeing this game on Switch 1 unless its running at 10fps. As pointed out in Sungrand Studios' analysis of the low quality offscreen footage that's been quickly overlayed on top of the 3d renders in the trailer, there's plenty being done under the hood of the new game that wasn't possible on Switch 1's hardware, much less at the scope that this game seems to be going for when you remember there's a local and online multiplayer experience attached. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fights for its life to maintain a 30fps in 4 player split screen battle mode and grand prix mode at 1080p. This new Mario Kart would need Tears of the Kingdom performance to even attempt to run in single player mode, and while that was acceptable for a single player action game, that shit would not slide for a multiplayer experience, MUCH LESS a racing game. Further context: The Battle Mode Experience for MK8 Deluxe was tailor made for Switch in mind, a more powerful console than the Wii U, and it pretty much shows off how taxing the experience is when you got 4 player split screen and tons of other CPUs player characters around at 1080p/30fps. If you're gonna have even bigger maps, double the player count and by extension MORE active items, you're asking for the Switch 1 to explode at that point. The performance would be unacceptable.

Does it need to be? If they are producing 20 million Switch 2s then they are going to sell 20 million Mario Kart 9s. And then however many the next year lol. That's true I forgot Mario Kart 8 is technically a Wii U game running in 1080p on the Switch with extras. There was never a Mario Odyssey or Mario Wonder answer for Mario Kart on the Switch so maybe this game started as a Switch game called Mario Kart 9, so thats why it still looks like a Switch game, but now they are trying to improve it for Switch 2. I dont think they will make it cross platform tho because its too late for that, we dont even have an efficial name yet, just a teaser. If it was coming to Switch 1 it would have already been announced years ago, like Metroid Primer 4 or Pokemon ZA.

Could the new Mario Kart be cross gen? Possibly. Should it be cross gen? Absolutely not! The biggest complaint about the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series was the lack of exclusive games for those platforms because their 1st party releases were cross gen. When Nintendo does cross gen releases, it's always because the game was originally announced for the old system, but the release was during the cross-over of generations.

The only way to have a next gen look is for it to have those Switch 2 enhancements. I'm just saying that if you want to push into the next generation, you need to have new exclusive games that drive console sales, and Mario Kart is an excellent example of that.
I think it's likely considering how safe nintendo is being but I really hope they can be bold and let the new console stand on its own two feet with its own unique library. As a consumer it makes a product feel more special and thats part of the magic with these generational upgrades

It's highly probable that it's a cross-platform game but if they're going to give it parity gameplaywise, it's going to be dumbed down graphically. The difference this time won't be very significant as with the WiiU/3DS Super Smash bros. The textures and resolution will most likely suffer on the OG Switch but it will still have that decent MK8 look, framerate will most likely be a priority because of the online feature. The good thing here is looking for players online won't be an issue. But if you're a real Mario Kart junkie, you'd buy to the best version of the game. This is just to keep the late adopters happy.
If you look at MK8 E3 reveal trailer, that game was also shown off at a low resolution lol. Hope it doesn't take Nintendo several years to start uploading their videos at 4K like how it took them years to upload videos at 1080p.
Yeah the footage here is low quality. We should not write off this Mario Kart now. It is guaranteed to look better the next time we see it when it’s not cropped and low quality
considering what that game dev jerrel said and showed in the video, they'd have to make some significant downgrades for it to run well on switch 1. they could manage that, of course, maybe they would even do it to demonstrate the difference in power between the two? but i think nintendo knows that switch 2 need exclusives to get people excited

I don't think a Switch 1 version of the new Mario Kart game would suddenly choke things up having too many racers on the track because if you think about it, the more racers you have, the more hazards or power-ups get engaged which will help keep the players a different positions of the race off screen to where they are less likely to get cluttered up in the same sections of the track all at once. Side note though, I've been trying to guess what will be some of the 3rd party launch titles. Maybe Street Fighter 6? Maybe Resident Evil 4 Remake? Maybe Dynasty Warriors Origins? With this more powerful hardware there's a lot less limits now lol. 😇

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the complete Booster Pass is ALREADY on switch 1 and ended literally not that long ago. The game was a huge success and it’s the best selling switch game ever. It makes perfect sense for them to follow up with that with a new installment in the next generation. Especially since it’s been a whole decade since Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, and 8 years since Deluxe. It makes no sense for a new Mario kart to be a switch 1 game so late in its life when the Switch 2 is coming. The game being cross gen would completely hurt and diminish the sales of the Switch 2 by a large margin if it’s the launch game (which is likely) because then people who want to play the new Mario Kart would just get it on switch 1 and not buy a switch 2 as they’ll no reason or point to. And they’ll wanna save up money. This would highly impact the switch 2 sales negatively. Even if Metroid Prime 4 is a launch title, that fan base in small and only a minority compared to Mario Kart’s massive community and fan base and regular families/kids that know Mario Kart and are invested. The game bring cross gen would also take away from 8 Deluxe sales too. Knowing Nintendo, they’re gonna wanna make it be an exclusive game because it’s a SYSTEM SELLER. It was the first new game to be teased with the Switch 2. Why would they do a reversal and announce it for switch 1 after they just showed it for switch 2?? Does that make any sense?? See how illogical it is? Also, Mario Kart games have always been exclusive to the systems they were revealed for. Mario Kart 8 is a different case because the Wii U was a failure and that game couldn’t reach the sales potential that it could have. So MK8 doesn’t count. Mario Kart 64, was for the N64. yeah. The issue is normal consumers don’t know what they are seeing. That’s Nintendo’s fault for not clarifying. My point is, there are pbr shaders on every model, the render distance is huge. High resolution shadows are rendered as far as you can see. It uses real volumetric fog that would alone bring switch 1 to its knees. Every technique used in that trailer isn’t possible on switch 1.
I really do wonder how far the next Xenoblade and Zelda games are away. I mean Xenoblade 4, not X for Switch. Xenoblade 3 and Tears of the Kingdom where in development for like 6 years and both reused many things from its predecessors (world, assets etc.). Zelda will probably take some time, but perhaps not another 6 years after TotK and perhaps its Copium from my side, but Monolithsoft did surprise us heavily with Xenoblade 2 as a Year 1 Switch title, only 3 years after Xenoblade X. If i remember only 43 people of MS worked on it for like 2,5 years. I would never have believed it would be ready for the first year of Switch 1. They could surpise us again and who knows if they didn't have a small team on Xenoblade 4 while developing Xenoblade 3.
Tablets consoles and phones are all merging. The power levels of phones is getting to game system levels. Game systems are becoming redundant.biggest reason to have a seperate system is just to use your phone seperately to make calls

The fact that this is a debate is pretty bad tbh. After 11 years, the next Mario Kart game should've looked pretty mind-blowing, and the fact that it still looks like something that could run on a Switch or even possibly a Wii U is not good. Im not saying the game should look Hyper realistic or something, but come on, it's been 11 years.
It’s too early to judge. We haven’t seen much besides the characters racing in an open desert road instead of something like a jungle or ocean area. Clearly there’s more to it. Not a whole lot you can do with cartoony characters on a more powerful console.
We were probably always going to be a little underwhelmed because of the law of diminishing returns; I struggled to imagine a better-looking Mario Kart than 8 for a long time, other than just being sharper and having better textures and effects. But either way, that desert is way too bland lol.
And yet everything it does is miles ahead of anything in Mario Kart Deluxe. You guys were looking for it to look like Horizon Zero Dawn with a bunch of ridiculous fluff that does nothing for the gameplay when much of its advancements are in subtle places. Because only a small potion of the screen shows the game, plus the fact that the video is in 1080p which is also compressed by YT, it doesn't give us a great view of how it truly looks. However Sungrad Studios pointed out key things that point it to very clearly not be a Switch 1 game. If Nintendo had uploaded their trailer at 4K then this wouldn't be a discussion to be talking about cause it is an improvement.

Nintendo's games are good and they don't compare to GOD of war, elden ring, rdr2, gt7, black myth wukong - these games engines go deeper, better graphics..Nintendo is in their own league and that's how they want to keep it. There systems online infrastructure is horrible, their sales are greedy, no storage, and launch switch had no ethernet port nor a real controller included. Every Mario Kart is saved for one generation. However, MK8 was the outlier as it was so successful that it outlived its generation. Perhaps Mario Kart 9 IS a cross-gen game.
I watched his video last night & learned some things but still wanted to see his games to judge lbs. I'm still hoping that we saw ns1 footage bc fsr, etc. Hoping for 4k & 60 fps games on Switch 2.

It can't be ruled out, but I doubt it will happen since they didn't already announce it for Switch 1. I can't recall a single time in the history of Nintendo they have done a cross gen game without first announcing it for the previous system. Twilight Princess Breath of the Wild Both were announced for GameCube and Wii U respectively first. Now Nintendo could buck that trend, but it doesn't seem likely right now.

I think you'll find the prospect of Local 4 Player Split Screen BATTLE Mode of all things with 24 characters (counting the other 20 character CPUs) all launching items at each other on screen a pretty compleing case as to why you wont be seeing this game on Switch 1 unless its running at 10fps. As pointed out in Sungrand Studios' analysis of the low quality offscreen footage that's been quickly overlayed on top of the 3d renders in the trailer, there's plenty being done under the hood of the new game that wasn't possible on Switch 1's hardware, much less at the scope that this game seems to be going for when you remember there's a local and online multiplayer experience attached. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fights for its life to maintain a 30fps in 4 player split screen battle mode and grand prix mode at 1080p. This new Mario Kart would need Tears of the Kingdom performance to even attempt to run in single player mode, and while that was acceptable for a single player action game, that shit would not slide for a multiplayer experience, MUCH LESS a racing game.
Further context: The Battle Mode Experience for MK8 Deluxe was tailor made for Switch in mind, a more powerful console than the Wii U, and it pretty much shows off how taxing the experience is when you got 4 player split screen and tons of other CPUs player characters around at 1080p/30fps. If you're gonna have even bigger maps, double the player count and by extension MORE active items, you're asking for the Switch 1 to explode at that point. The performance would be unacceptable.
If Mario Kart 9 is Cross Platform, and if Metroid Prime 4 is Cross Platform, then there would have to be another game that is Exclusive to the Switch 2 right? I know that BOTW was cross gen but the Wii U didn't have a huge install base.

That's true I forgot Mario Kart 8 is technically a Wii U game running in 1080p on the Switch with extras. There was never a Mario Odyssey or Mario Wonder answer for Mario Kart on the Switch so maybe this game started as a Switch game called Mario Kart 9, so thats why it still looks like a Switch game, but now they are trying to improve it for Switch 2. I dont think they will make it cross platform tho because its too late for that, we dont even have an efficial name yet, just a teaser. If it was coming to Switch 1 it would have already been announced years ago, like Metroid Primer 4 or Pokemon ZA.

The biggest complaint about the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series was the lack of exclusive games for those platforms because their 1st party releases were cross gen. When Nintendo does cross gen releases, it's always because the game was originally announced for the old system, but the release was during the cross-over of generations.

@@marlong1325 I'm not discounting what Doc heard, and I agree 100% that it was in development for Switch, but how far along, we have no idea. Mario Kart is a cartoon racer and styled that way. The only way to have a next gen look is for it to have those Switch 2 enhancements. I'm just saying that if you want to push into the next generation, you need to have new exclusive games that drive console sales, and Mario Kart is an excellent example of that.
I think it's likely considering how safe nintendo is being but I really hope they can be bold and let the new console stand on its own two feet with its own unique library. As a consumer it makes a product feel more special and thats part of the magic with these generational upgrades

It's highly probable that it's a cross-platform game but if they're going to give it parity gameplaywise, it's going to be dumbed down graphically. The difference this time won't be very significant as with the WiiU/3DS Super Smash bros. The textures and resolution will most likely suffer on the OG Switch but it will still have that decent MK8 look, framerate will most likely be a priority because of the online feature. The good thing here is looking for players online won't be an issue. But if you're a real Mario Kart junkie, you'd buy to the best version of the game. This is just to keep the late adopters happy.
If you look at MK8 E3 reveal trailer, that game was also shown off at a low resolution lol. Hope it doesn't take Nintendo several years to start uploading their videos at 4K like how it took them years to upload videos at 1080p.

I don't think a Switch 1 version of the new Mario Kart game would suddenly choke things up having too many racers on the track because if you think about it, the more racers you have, the more hazards or power-ups get engaged which will help keep the players a different positions of the race off screen to where they are less likely to get cluttered up in the same sections of the track all at once. Side note though, I've been trying to guess what will be some of the 3rd party launch titles. Maybe Street Fighter 6? Maybe Resident Evil 4 Remake? Maybe Dynasty Warriors Origins? With this more powerful hardware there's a lot less limits now lol. 😇

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the complete Booster Pass is ALREADY on switch 1 and ended literally not that long ago. The game was a huge success and it’s the best selling switch game ever. It makes perfect sense for them to follow up with that with a new installment in the next generation. Especially since it’s been a whole decade since Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, and 8 years since Deluxe. It makes no sense for a new Mario kart to be a switch 1 game so late in its life when the Switch 2 is coming.
The game being cross gen would completely hurt and diminish the sales of the Switch 2 by a large margin if it’s the launch game (which is likely) because then people who want to play the new Mario Kart would just get it on switch 1 and not buy a switch 2 as they’ll no reason or point to. And they’ll wanna save up money. This would highly impact the switch 2 sales negatively. Even if Metroid Prime 4 is a launch title, that fan base in small and only a minority compared to Mario Kart’s massive community and fan base and regular families/kids that know Mario Kart and are invested. The game bring cross gen would also take away from 8 Deluxe sales too.
Knowing Nintendo, they’re gonna wanna make it be an exclusive game because it’s a SYSTEM SELLER. It was the first new game to be teased with the Switch 2. Why would they do a reversal and announce it for switch 1 after they just showed it for switch 2?? Does that make any sense?? See how illogical it is? Also, Mario Kart games have always been exclusive to the systems they were revealed for. Mario Kart 8 is a different case because the Wii U was a failure and that game couldn’t reach the sales potential that it could have. So MK8 doesn’t count. Mario Kart 64, was for the N64. Double Dash, for the GameCube. Mario Kart Wii, for the Wii. Since the switch 1 is a success and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did so well, they don’t need to do a cross gen release. It’s unnecessary and the next Mario Kart is better off being Switch 2 exclusive so it can boost up the new system’s sales. Nintendo has always made a follow up to every Mario Kart game they released that was a success. 8 Deluxe is no different.
None of this is my opinion or how I feel. It’s common sense and logic that Mario Kart 9 should and will be exclusive to Switch 2. If you still disagree, then I don’t know what to tell you. You don’t know how to think objectively. And there has never been two Mario Kart games on the same console before ever.
Also, saying “but the switch 1 didn’t have it’s own original Mario Kart since they skipped a generation” is not a valid argument because by that logic, we would probably be getting a new original NSMB game for switch 1 as they skipped a whole generation with a new original NSMB game. Even in some interview, creator of Mario implied that NSMBU Deluxe was the switch’s NSMB title. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe won’t be any different.

I think if you know how literally impossible almost all of the visuals in that trailer are on switch 1 you would think differently. It would require them to literally remake the whole game to make that work.

yeah. The issue is normal consumers don’t know what they are seeing. That’s Nintendo’s fault for not clarifying. My point is, there are pbr shaders on every model, the render distance is huge. High resolution shadows are rendered as far as you can see. It uses real volumetric fog that would alone bring switch 1 to its knees. Every technique used in that trailer isn’t possible on switch 1.

I really do wonder how far the next Xenoblade and Zelda games are away. I mean Xenoblade 4, not X for Switch. Xenoblade 3 and Tears of the Kingdom where in development for like 6 years and both reused many things from its predecessors (world, assets etc.). Zelda will probably take some time, but perhaps not another 6 years after TotK and perhaps its Copium from my side, but Monolithsoft did surprise us heavily with Xenoblade 2 as a Year 1 Switch title, only 3 years after Xenoblade X. If i remember only 43 people of MS worked on it for like 2,5 years. I would never have believed it would be ready for the first year of Switch 1. They could surpise us again and who knows if they didn't have a small team on Xenoblade 4 while developing Xenoblade 3.

It’s too early to judge. We haven’t seen much besides the characters racing in an open desert road instead of something like a jungle or ocean area. Clearly there’s more to it. Not a whole lot you can do with cartoony characters on a more powerful console.

We were probably always going to be a little underwhelmed because of the law of diminishing returns; I struggled to imagine a better-looking Mario Kart than 8 for a long time, other than just being sharper and having better textures and effects. But either way, that desert is way too bland lol.
And yet everything it does is miles ahead of anything in Mario Kart Deluxe. You guys were looking for it to look like Horizon Zero Dawn with a bunch of ridiculous fluff that does nothing for the gameplay when much of its advancements are in subtle places. But if anyone’s underwhelmed because it doesn’t look that much better than MK8 Deluxe, well MK8 NEVER LOOKED BAD. Sure the newer one will look better, but I don’t care what tech you got on it, by its nature it’s NOT going to look so much better than what was already a sweet spot for its visuals.
Because only a small potion of the screen shows the game, plus the fact that the video is in 1080p which is also compressed by YT, it doesn't give us a great view of how it truly looks. However Sungrad Studios pointed out key things that point it to very clearly not be a Switch 1 game. If Nintendo had uploaded their trailer at 4K then this wouldn't be a discussion to be talking about cause it is an improvement.

Nintendo's games are good and they don't compare to GOD of war, elden ring, rdr2, gt7, black myth wukong - these games engines go deeper, better graphics..Nintendo is in their own league and that's how they want to keep it. There systems online infrastructure is horrible, their sales are greedy, no storage, and launch switch had no ethernet port nor a real controller included.

It can't be ruled out, but I doubt it will happen since they didn't already announce it for Switch 1. I can't recall a single time in the history of Nintendo they have done a cross gen game without first announcing it for the previous system.
