I got 1 more. The part when Glenn and Nancy went into the room with Rod and Tina and when after Nancy and Glenn looked at Tina, Glenn said... Oh My God. That has been removed as well.
also in that SAME SCENE, the splash sound whenever Tina falls on the bed is missing
Glen's death also has an alternate cue whenever the blood actually begins pouring from the bed (also strangely enough the mother's screams are different)
hi, great content!!...i'm a little ignorant about this very issue, so, somebody can tell me if the "1999 dvd surround mix" includes all the sound elements?...and my other question is: this problem happens with the first film only? thanks!
Excellent (and astute) observations. I don't think I've ever watched this film in anything other than mono (other than at a marathon screening that I attended a couple of years ago), so I wasn't really aware of these changes. Happily, the original mono is still available, but I pity those who watch it in 5.1.
People look weird at me and call me a geek when I put on the original mono sound. But it's literally unwatchable in 5.1. It's even out of sync..
I didn't notice all of the changes, but the missing musical stinger when Rod jumps up from the bushes behind Nancy is a big one. Noticed that one right away.
Those sounds and music are so important to the original release not sure why they were removed

Or at least once again include the theatrical mono mix
I have to go ahead and admit that I am with you and these changes really annoy me. I noticed it for the first time when I was showing my niece the movie on HBO Max. I thought I was going crazy lol. The sound effects missing is definitely irritating, but I feel like the music cues are so important. Not sure why or how this happened. So glad, the first gift my husband bought me when we were dating, was that big fancy box set from 1999. I truly loved that thing with the interactive menu! So awesome!

Funny how I guess my mind just put these sounds back in the film. I never noticed they were gone, but I remember them vividly.
If I had to guess (and I’d love to see some details on the playback and sync system they used to use for a film mix prior to the DAW / ProTools days) it’s as if there was a slave reel of multitrack which had a few additional elements and cues on it, and that reel was missing when it was transferred and archived prior to the new mix being done. So those elements simply wouldn’t have been available. If so, was this noticed during the mix? Was any effort made to locate the missing audio? Maybe it couldn’t be found… or maybe it was felt (wrongly IMO) that it wasn’t worth the effort to find it. Something similar seems to have happened recently with Titanic, where a couple of small bits of ADR are missing in the latest mix (although they are fixing it).

Makes you wonder who was responsible for these ridiculous alterations. Name and shame him! Seriously. People should be dragged for these screw-ups. I’m guessing these won’t be fixed for the new 4K, but it’ll probably have the mono. Was the original theatrical release mono-only?
yes, there weren't any remixes done until the DVD releases

No mention of the audio sync issues on Nightmare on Elm Street? It's extremely noticeable when Rod pulls Nancy into the bushes

And not only that, the whole mixing is horrible
I am not a fan of revisionism, but I'm also not terribly bothered by these changes. The face-ripping sound effect is just goofy. Most of these have no real impact, but it's baffling why they would be removed/changed.
