This has been my favorite painting since I was very young. I’ve moved into my new home in a small town in Istanbul and I’ve been inspired to paint this on a wall I’ve designated. It’s been over a month and I am terrified. I am frozen to get started. Your video is so exquisite and stunningly done. I wish I could get it maybe halfway as good as you have. ❤❤
Thank so much for your kind remarks and I hope that your painting goes well! I'm sure it will. Spend a lot of time getting the drawing right - you might even be able to project the image onto the wall. If you do project make sure there is no distortion because of camera/projector angle. Best of luck!
Hi - the song is by Masterpiece Music and I think it's called Renaissance. They make music that's free for video makers. I agree with you though, it's really lovely. There is a link in my blurb above if you want to download it.
It looks amazing was impressed by the volume.. Still I think I will give it à try..). The sensual présentation with à brush on the paper.. ) Still it scares me the complexity of à base
Sorry, I did not see your question. I didn't use varnish, but I do on some of my work. For most, a satin works best, but gloss will always enrichen the colour
Hi Penny! I loved the video and love your work! I am currently making a copy of the painting! However I am using imitation gold leaf and oil paints, do you have any tips or tricks that you could give me? Specifically about what kind of varnish / sealers/ or glues to use with imitation gold leaf or if I can paint with oil paints on top of imitation gold leaf. It is a tricky substance and any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!
If you use imitation gold leaf (and I did in places too) then you use it just as you would real gold leaf. Paint an area of Size and let it go tacky (5 mins approx) then carefully place your gold on to the area. Leave for a few minutes and then gently brush off the excess gold leaf with a wash brush or similar. I only painted a few small areas at a time and I used folded paper to collect the excess leaf so that I could use that again for tiny places. I do have 3 full length videos of my painting this (total over an hour) which I talk through everything I do and is only slightly speeded up. These are £20 for all 3 if you are interested - I am also going to have a subscription service on my website soon and that will be a couple of pounds a month and free access to over 100 of my video tutorials (including the Klimt), so you might want to wait till then? Anyway, have fun, it's a wonderful piece and a joy to paint. NB I used Golden Open Acrylics, which have the same properties as oils, but are MUCH easier to use! Again, I talk about that in the video.
Forgot to add, I did not varnish it, but you can. If I had I would have used Golden Open Polymer Varnish, but it's in our bedroom on a wall that gets less natural light so it's not necessary.
hi, this is stunning - i’m trying to do something similar and was wondering what materials you’ve used here ? also what did you use u see the gold leaf to make the 3D circles please !! x
Hi. The best thing you can do is buy my 3 videos that give a full and detailed description of everything I do including all the materials from start to finish. It’s £30 for all 3. Go to pennyartist.com and look for videos.
Could you do the faces and skin in oils ( as l think this gives a truer likeness due to the long blending time of oils) then do the rest in acrylics ? Many thanks .
Hi. Actually I use Golden Open Acrylics which have a very long drying time. The Open is the important word to notice as Golden also do a normal range of acrylics. I find the Golden Open are the best things to use as oils really take too long to dry and ordinary acrylics are too quick. The ones I use take a good hour or two to dry, and palettes well covered can last months! So do give them a go. There is no need to mix media.
Thank you . I haven't used acrylics since school and l found them too quick drying but haven't tried this new range, or painted for decades in fact, so why am l thinking of embarking on this one as a first try !? 🤣
@@pennycrichton-seager1086 Looked like the Polyfiller equivalent of a pen that you could use as a base for relief work, then paint over in gold , or have l imagined it !?😂
Thank you. I went to the Belvedere website and used their high quality image of the original. Then I used my computer to enlarge it (on multiple size A3 sheets) to the size I needed. I then traced the outline lightly and put that on the canvas, then I went back to the original and redrew it, having some guideline for proportion. I prefer this method to gridding, as I like to actually draw it, but each to their own.
