Just found out about your review today and it was dope to see your breakdown. Your attention to detail in the lyrics means you caught so many things!! and your screw face at some of the bars 😂 Shout out all the people commenting as well for breaking down the cultural context. CW5 on the way!!
Much love man 🙏🙏 been entirely my blessing discovering yall music on the channel and the super dope fanbase you've cultivated welcoming the GSGang onto the scene! Bless bro
@@SteveBussaGS cool, Wale is a proud Nigerian. He is the most culturally inclined Nigerian-American star I know. He is also well known and respected here in Nigeria. Others that come to mind are Jidenna and Rotimi (who played Dre in the Power tv series).
If you are looking to get into Wizkid and Burnaboy, I recommend you checkout their international collabos to ease you in because of language barriers. Burna boy was featured on a track called "Location" by Dave (U.K rapper). It's very international friendly and it's a mix of hip hop and afrobeats. He also has "Own It" with Stormzy and Ed Sheeran, "Real Life" with Stormzy, "Monsters you made" with Cold Play's lead man Chris Martin. Wizkid has lots of international collabos. He has "Smile" with U.S RnB artiste H.E.R, "Come Closer" with Drake, "Bad Energy" with U.K rapper Skepta.
The Packaging track was explaining peeps that live a fake lifestyle and try to scam people The guy at the end was explaining a particular scam skill niggas use
The outro in PACKAGING is funny af... When I’m down sometimes, I play this outro to brighten up my mood and it never fails. Basically, he’s just talking about PIMPING girls to rich fellas but in a more PROFESSIONAL/OFFICIAL manner. Hence, the use of the word packaging. I give it 7/10 This is actually a good reaction. I like this. IMO, Centre of excellence and Shadow of doubt is a solid 7.5 for me. I like those tracks very much, I think you would too if you were more culturally inclined the Nigerian way. But as for the rest, I totally agree with every score.
23:52 But I got something else to say You come with me let’s a play game Where you hide and I seek To find the meaning Why you won’t show me the weak in you You hide and I seek to find the reason Why you won’t let yourself go baby Owele wa old duade odo do do do do do do do Owele wa old duade dadadadadadadada Owele wa old duade Take you on a journey Owele wa old duade Take you on a journey “owele wa old duade” (it’s Ga, a Ghanaian language) simply means ‘your skin is as tough as an old cassava’ the metaphor just signifies the tough skin, gangster shit you spoke about.
I loved epigenetics... Especially when Tec said "Whole Country's got post traumatic stress/ Africa's Giant mehn say it with your chest". That line made me weep because Nigeria is often said to be the giant of Africa but we're getting left behind economically, technologically and all wise
I swear my country's a cocktail of absent codeine and caffeine. Bartender said there's 4 more shots. A generational trauma going on here, and like karma the bitch don't stop The 4 more shots part is a reference to the disastrous tenure of our current elected president. At the time the song was released, he had 4 more years of his administration. 4 more shots = 4 more years
You're becoming more Nigerian as the days go by. Packaging is the only place where you were lacking and that's because of the cultural references. And the tons of pidgin English. Packaging is the most "Nigerian" song on the tape. Definitely not the most lyrical, but easily the most pertinent to the Nigerian youth situation. It's intentionally satirical. You notice the "lazy youth" phrase was brought up a few times. A few years ago, the President (Buhari) was on international TV calling the Nigerian youths lazy. Ghost embraced it and it's a justification for how low people descend seeing as you have to fake it till you make it. "Look what society made me do" "Got no choice but to scam niggas with this Mercedes coupe" It also turns the beam on how most people live a ridiculously fake life by creating a whole different persona which they can't live up to and that's the "packaging" and how often they turn to immoral acts to live up to that lifestyle like Tec alluded to when he talked about the G Boys (internet scammers) or Prostitution when he rapped about the lady that went from jumping a cab to driving a Range Rover in a week. It's like the Instagram generation and their make believe lives under the microscope, but with a Nigerian spin. I think the outro speaks for itself. If you have access and you want a contract from these old politicians, take a fine big booty babe with you. They'll end up asking for her number and that's your $1m contract there. It inadvertently ties back to the babe driving a Range after jumping a taxi just a few week ago. That's all you need to do to get a million dollars contract in the poverty capital of the world. Packaging. "If you like sleep. These Buhari times are deep." It's a solid 8/10 Btw, Shadow of Doubt was always the weakest link on the tape from my POV. I always knew something came off sonically, and you finally put into words for me. That was two different songs in one. Two very good verses that were forced on an equally good but out of place hook. Although it's not well synchronized, but because of the individual brilliance of the verses, it gets a 6.5 from me. The whole first half of the tape gets 7.5 or weak 8 from me. Trust me, it only gets better. The second half is a masterpiece Get well soon.

Track 4 is easily the best and honestly one of the best tracks I’ve heard in a while. Savage is definitely harder and more of a bar fest but when I relistened to it the first verse pushed it down to a 9/10 for me.
I think it is important to understand the title of the project to understand the sequencing and the subject matter of each track. Buhari is the president of Nigeria and his government has been basically inept, and the country has been going down the drain..hence the jaded feeling of 'These Buhari Times'

That's one sick comparison you've got there👏🏾. The song comes off beautifully in that they don't take themselves too serious but pass on really important information. Kendrick using the Lady as a metaphor for America and Tec using that guy not leaving the bar as a microcosm of Nigeria's stagnation.
Epigenetics ... You're ryt on the first one ... The second one is more like someone who genetically should be tall or bulky like really muscled up is skinny or not as tall as his genetics should have allowed him to be because of malnourishment. It's like you know you can be great but your Real life situation keeps dragging u down.
Being an emotional person growing up in Nigeria when I did was like a death sentence, men were/are expected to be robotic. I learnt to bottle my emotions and only cry in dark corners where I couldn't see my tears. Till now it's same in our society and even worse. Nigerians are generally viewed as happy people but that view is steady declining, there are millions of depressed people, finally I feel alot of us hold on to religion because for some reason it's viewed as ok to cry when u talk to God
Haven't heard this song about mental health but her voice made me shed a tear cos I heard her in my soul...then again maybe I was just turned on lol. #GSGANG
There is a massive level of helplessness in our society, people always fighting against the tide to stay above water in ever sphere of their life, it helps alot of us to feel there is someone (God) who is always willing to listen. Hence our overly religious existence...I'm not religious tho
1. center of excellence 8/10 -- i didnt even notice the switch up around the chorus when i listened on my own lol...it was very natural to me...it makes sense because they're juxtaposing how gritty Nigeria is with how stupid/silly/laughable Buhari and his supporters are...they're mocking Buhari in the chorus "these Buhari times". The last one is very deep is just talking about how the young ones in Nigeria are into shady business like yahoo which the U.S calls internet fraudster or scammers also the flashy lifestyle they live and how it is affecting the society at large .
38:57 when Africans talk about Epigenetics they're usually talking about the theory that centuries of enslavement may have had generational psychological (negative) effects on Africans contributing to the underdevelopement of Africa. Source ua-cam.com/video/kyIUs8hJpy0/v-deo.html
On Epigenetics, Ghost is venting about a friend who moved back from overseas hoping to secure government contracts and make it. But he got wrecked financially and ran back. Ghost also vents about how he wants to make conscious music but Nigerian want turn up music only. He further vents about how bad society is that the only way to get money is to defraud foreigners online and exchange the dollars in the black market to spend it on alcohol. Further talks about the Sars epidemic
Tecs verse talked about jungle justice in Nigeria where a thief is caught, wrapped with vehicle tires and set on fire. That's why his white colleagues looked at him with shock in their eyes
I guess thematically the song is about things that are normalized here in Nigeria but are very jaw dropping to outsiders. Solid 10/10... I really wish you understood some of our lingo, it'll help with context of the song
Steve your the man chappie! He was out bar totally . I hope you react to the other half soon , I know there is gona be at least 4 10s in the next 8 songs . tipping point ft boogey is definitely a 10 . the track with vector could be a 10 too and definitely the track everything I love is a 10
Yo! Great one... Ghost said only recognize ye if you talking bout’ that burna boy cheesy line abi😂😂😂 you gotta react to ye by burna. Burna also got a song with naughty by nature. Really burna boy mad pass most USA rappers. No cap he’s African Giant verified
Your ratings are perfect. About Burna, he has a song with Lily Allen which I think you could relate to, then Wizkid and Skepta did Bad energy. I think you could relate to those songs. Shout out to Gsgang. If you guys are not number one then numbers finally lie
Packing 7/10 (the hook wasnt catchy enough). The song is talking about how too many people in Lagos are scammers (or just fake people in general; "packaging" means you're advertising fake vibes to gain favor) in many different ways. Some people are literal internet fraudsters. Some people are faking accents. Some guys are in clubs spending money they don't have to pick up girls.

Btw Ozone is one of my favorite rappers ever, I hate that he doesn’t put out music any more
Broooo
PeediPicasso said we might be getting a project from both Ozone and Mojeed soon. Let's hope
Check out burna boy and DJDS ep, that's the best you'll come to hearing burna do hip hop
100th like. Burna has some songs with good lyrics
This is really nice.
Ghost is fire tho, I think I am fan now
So far your rating is on point
Check crown 👑 AQ and loose cannon feat. Show Dem camp
Yo! Great one... Ghost said only recognize ye if you talking bout’ that burna boy cheesy line abi😂😂😂 you gotta react to ye by burna. Burna also got a song with naughty by nature. Really burna boy mad pass most USA rappers. No cap he’s African Giant verified
Duade- 10
Hey Steve, I think you should listen to Shadow of Doubt again.
It's definitely not a 4/10
Beng🔫 beng🔫, that's my team.
Duade is def 10/10
Clone wars v is out.
Center of Excellence - 7/10
Respect Loyalty and Honor - 6/10
Duade- 9/10
Shadow of Doubt - 8/10
Epigenetics - 4/10
Packaging - 4/10
Your ratings are perfect. About Burna, he has a song with Lily Allen which I think you could relate to, then Wizkid and Skepta did Bad energy. I think you could relate to those songs. Shout out to Gsgang. If you guys are not number one then numbers finally lie
I only disagree with Epigenetics
Epignatic can't be 4... If for anything, Ozone speaks 6/10' already!
Some guys are in clubs spending money they don't have to pick up girls.
and the skit in the song is hilarious lol....yes he's giving scam rundowns
Shadow Of Doubt- 6.5
Respect Loyalty and Honor- 8
Packaging- 7.5
finally!!!!!!! this album !!
React to Link Up by Phyno, Burna Boy and M.I
Epigenetics- 8.2
I’m here again after one year #classic #GSGang
Burna boys collab album with djds is more hip hop inclined you should fuck with that bro!!
It's called "steel and copper"
React to M I Abaga - Yung Denzel. It lit you gonna love it.
Packaging is easily 10 for me, if you were Nigerian it’d make more sense to you
I'm definitely learning from all the comments!
There is clone wars 1,2,& 3 too...
Just incase you want more🤙🏾
My best of the series is clone wars 3 . that is where I crowned Ghost as the best lyricist in Nigeria
Definitely bro...
But honestly I prefer 2 The subsidy..
The just a Just a melody track,
And the other tracks with Poe and Lucci
But I love all there projects..
Including the palmwine series
Yo steve what's up men. You already know what it is. thanks for the follow back on twitter.
#gsgang all day🙌❤ get well soon king
#GSgang Taurus babay!!!
YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS!
Yunz denzl mi abga
React to burnaboy Heaven's Gate
Steve hates long outros🤣🤣🤣🤣
F.a.c.t.s.
4. Shadow of a Doubt 9/10 - Tec again "meanwhile they giving yansh out for christmas" 😭talking about the twitter meme that women give sex to their partners as gifts while men keep jumping through hoops
the outro is hilarious -- he litrally said "the election is over; declare me winner"
The weird voice on packaging is more like an alter ego just like j cole’s kiLL edward
Too accurate. It's Ghost's alter ego. The same guy on that 1million.1 WEGELE radio station on earlier tapes
1 billion.1 fm 😂😂
Burna boy!!!!!
Shit is dope! From SDC
