    Of all the hundreds of AT hiking videos I've watched, I think your sunny dry view of Blood Mountain is the one of the very few I've seen. It always seems to be rainy, windy and foggy in everyone's videos. Sending all the good vibes that your feet will heal and the new shoes will work out fine. #teamtaylor

Did he think it was the zero drop itself? You have put many, many miles on those Altra shoes and they're just about the most important gear for a hike so I'm sure it must have been quite a serious issue out there! Injinji Toe Socks! Yeah, I can't talk those socks up enough. I love 'em. But, last year during a section hike on the AT I had a 4 mile nero and decided, like you did, that since they were wet and I was only doing a few miles, my feet would be fine. It was a definite mistake and I regretted the decision for the rest of that hike. Bottom line: Find the right combo of socks , liners and shoes that work, and stay with it as long as possible, rain or shine. Hope your feet recover quickly! Happy trails! Really enjoy your videos.

    The first pair of shoes did look a bit broken in -- maybe they were a bit sloppy. It would be interesting to hear how many miles you had on them. Also, you pulled a long one on your first day (18 miles or so?). Maybe it was a case of 0 to 60 in five seconds kind of thing. One thing that may help is stretching out the ankles and the calf muscles, and maybe massaging out the tendons and ligaments around the achilles and the ankle joint. Hope it works itself out!

    • @Bohonk212
      @Bohonk212 3 роки тому

      @@m_soko Carbon fiber rockplates helped me somewhat through PA-CT, under the insoles. But the full length ones aren't useful on long climbs (they don't flex fore-aft enough causing heel blisters) and they start major underfoot 'burn' after several hours, don't know why.
      Seems hard forefoot soles are only made in mountaineering boots while ALL hiking footwear have soft to medium stiffness forefoot soles. The flex and piercing from trail rocks, etc. was a constant problem for me the entire way, thus the need for the carbon rockplates which eliminated that completely but had those drawbacks I mentioned.
      Since my thru I have cut the rockplates down to just the forefoot section but have yet to try them on extended hikes to see if they still cause the foot burn.

    One common theme every year from vlogers is foot pain. 99 % of complaints are about Ultra's..... and partly is a few You Tube Channels who do reviews push trail runners. I've never seen a Thru Hiker run up a mountain with a 30 lb pack, let alone run down the other side. I really wish some real experts would explain why a Hiker is better, and why low cut shoes are not your friend carrying a heavy pack. Good luck with the new shoe..... as we age the feet are the first to change from the stress of carrying our weight, what may work last year, may not this year.

    Unfortunately, the only real solution for your hurting feet is to just keep walking. Hurting blistered feet are part of thru hiking, there is no way around it. After awhile your feet will get tougher and all will be well, but until then you just have to keep waking up, shoving your hurting feet into the shoes and hobbling down the trail. Just keep taking care of the blisters as they come and keep on trucking. There is no easy solution for the foot pain.

      May work for some but she doesn't want to develop Plantar Fasciitis. Once she gets that she'll have real problems. Best to nip that in the bud by finding out how to avoid it. Different shoes, inserts, stretching, massage, ice, ibuprofen, and rest. Walk fewer miles. I had it and it took 18 months to heal. I wasn't hiking just didn't stretch enough. Oh, it helped to tape my feet. I had to keep working while I was healing and stood on my feet for 10 hrs. Not a fun time so now I'll do anything to prevent getting it again.

    I don't eat meat, so I have to supplement B vitamins. If I start getting deficient in B vitamins, the first thing to happen is I get really sore feet that make it uncomfortable to stand and painful to hike. So I guess I'm saying to be sure you're getting enough B vitamins, and if there's any doubt take a daily B vitamin complex.

      Interesting. Not a vegan but I did have a problem with sore feet while hiking. Adding a B vitamin supplement is something that I'll try. Cheap solution if it works and can't hurt.

    You had such a beautiful day for a Blood Mountain summit. If Altras don’t work out for you, switch to Hokas! We switched brands about 800 miles into our thru hike last year. Footwear makes or breaks your adventure! Cheers and can’t wait to see the rest Taylor!!

    Get a roller, to roll out your feet. Maybe that will help.

    That shelter was awesome! I'm hoping you do a video in your recap/end of trail series on the best hostels. For me I noticed the Lone Peaks midsole is shot after about 300 miles that causes foot pain. Your lucky...this weekend forecast is calling for -20 with windchill in many parts of NH. Enjoy the nice weather.

    What month was this filmed on? Was it February as there is no leaves on the trees, I didn’t think people hiked that trail that early.
