I hate the censorship though...when the protests were going on in Hong Kong, and friend got blocked from WeChat. All he posted was "Pray for Hong Kong. Be safe." I use WeChat when my son and his wife visit China yearly. They stay with her parents several months each year. Literally you are correct. I got banned day one for some "content" then signed up again. I asked her why she cant you just delete the app, she said: china is more clever than being tricked by someone just deleting the app.. All this aside, the Chinese tech companies do show a rather nifty feed. Even though the basic ideas of the apps where stolen (Chinese are less creative in general), they are way better then the western versions. This shows that innovation and improvement doesn't rely on competition and that monopoly doesn't slow it down.

It just depends on case. When I use WeChat , I don't talk about any political stuff. If I wanna do it, I use FB messenger, Twitter DM or Instagram messaging function . That's all.

I told my father why that happened. I helped to change his registration to a new account in wechat and be aware of the contents that may raise suspicious to the China government.

But how many of them give Wechat access to bank account details, etc. or use it to do everything?? - Well, I don't. And I know many people around me only use it as a chatting software.
